Playing Terra Vitae.

Arch-Conservative Death Penalty laws are no joke. One of my characters was caught tagging, took a shotgun in the chest for her trouble (with gun control at Conservative, all my troublemakers and 'street artists' have body armour as standard), and was dragged in front of the court for ONE COUNT OF VANDALISM. The moderate (!) judge sentenced her to death. Free speech is even moderate at the moment!

Now... do I leave her as a martyr for the cause, or do I send my green(ish) soldiers to attempt to break her out of the prison. I will probably at least try to break her out, because she doesn't deserve death...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Legends Oddities
« on: February 15, 2012, 05:44:24 pm »
I presume vampires have massive kill counts due to thier new ability to feed. They didn't kill 13 thousand people in the field of battle, they feed on (and killed) 13 thousand 'friends'.

The Dwarf king you mentioned 4 posts ago killed (on average) one person every 13.42 days (so once a fortnight, every fortnight, give or take). All of these people were sleeping, and wouldn't have been a challenge at all. It isn't THAT impressive.

You shouldn't find any more instances of regular (even necromatic or were-beast) people with < 1k kill counts than DF2010.

(That said, apparently in adventure mode, they keep trinkets of all their kills, so that dwarf king has 13 thousand amulets, necklaces, and rings. I wouldn't be surprised if he would be a push over due to him being horrendously over-encumbered :P)

March meeting:

The crew was all here. And what a crew it was. The Liberal Crime Squad now sported an impressive 18 members, and that number was growing every day.

The meeting was subdued, but a faint aura of hope was creeping out from the newer members. We had a plan ... a way of income ...

But to continue, we needed more people. Strong people who could use crude melee weapons.

And we needed money. Money to buy a shelter ...

And laws. Without the protection of liberal laws, anyone who stood in the way of The Man would surely be crushed under his mighty hand. They were stronger than the Liberal Crime Squad... but hopefully the people would join them.

The new members, they were eager to fight, eager, fresh-eyed and idealistic, feeling that the plan itself would cause utopia to be realized. The older members, while more pessimistic, were no less keen. They were juiced up on the end goal ... their fight would be hard, and much blood would be shed, but ... it was worth it.

3rd April: Interesting... the Oil Refinery has closed down over the Janitors death ... but today marked the grand opening of a new aluminum factory!! The Boys are scouting it out now.

5th April: Welcome: Lois Tubbs. [10 str Hippie]

6th April: Ehdras returned Lycus' gun today, as he managed to dip into our (now significant) funds to buy two magnums and 6 clips.

7th April: Bad news. One of our valiant troublemakers was approached by the police, ironically while reenacting a police beating. A death squad officer burst into the scene, wielded a M16, and ripped Maria Gleaves body in half. It was a brutal scene, and people left in terror. Although they may be thinking deeply about the benifits of having heavily armed police ... I guess fear will win out today. For now.

RIP Maria Gleaves.

Cindy Brocks also managed to get cornered by a mob. She broke her lower-spine, and will be out of action for 3 months!

On the flip side, Marvin Hall joined us. He has joined the Melee Men (the Men being alliteration only, of course), and have been moved to quell some heat on the Crack house, that our trouble-makers and our hackers have been causing.

And Jimlad completed her first mural. Congratulations!

8th April: Lycus stumbled upon a high agility Mutant: Willow Tenant! We have hired him, and he shall be our big guns for the Melee Men. Frankie Bundy also signed up today. [Roman: You have one new recruitment slot for you to use now]

9th April: Ariel Fairchild joined. She has an impressive amount of intelligence, and will be our new tailor. But first, she needs to learn to pick locks, so she will go with Lycus and learn from the master! We also need a large amount of cloth.

We got front page news again. Yahoo! Although the Aluminum Factory has stepped up their security, so we will have to loot the Chemical Factory for a few days. But apparently the 8th April run was very profitable, with 6 tools destroyed, and 4 weird chemicals looted.

10th April: We met up with Sophie Black, a Mutant. She has great knowledge of law, apparently. I wonder if we can use her as a lawyer, even though she has had no formal training...

Kaitlyn Jenkins joined the squad. One more member before the Melee Men are complete!

11th April: Ehdras ended up confronted with a person who refused to move. He got punched a couple of times, but Ehndras ended up shooting at him twice, before the conservative attacker ended up sprinting away in terror.

[Not a complete update, and 60 hours isn't up yet, so I have time to do another 19 days by then :P]

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Explain bags to me, please.
« on: August 02, 2011, 03:21:39 pm »
No. The 10,000 cloth is due to the hospital rewrite that uses 'parts' of cloth. You need one actual 'unit' of cloth to make a bag.

Ensure that the cloth is not forbidden, in your stocks menu, in a stockpile, and (probably) not actually in the trade depot. Hopefully that solves your problem.

(Note that silk, cloth, and wool cloth are all different things, and you need tanned hides (from a tanner) not raw hides (from a butcher) for leatherworking)

I forget, but do these 6 multipliers stack??

I always thought that a dyed shirt with a dyed patch would have value

shirt value * shirt quality * cloth quality + dye value * dye quality + patch value * patch quality * cloth quality + patch dye value * patch dye quality.

So assuming a shirt has value 20 DB, dimple dye is worth 10 DB, a patch is worth 5 DB, and everything is masterwork quality (12x multiplier)

Then that shirt is 20 * 12 * 12 + 10 * 12 + 5 * 12 * 12 + 10 * 12 = 2880 + 120 + 720 + 120 = 3840 DB

[NOTE: this is for comparison purposes with the next formula. It is NOT meant to reflect the actual values of shirts, dyes, and patches]

But greycat implies that it is the materials multiplied by ALL the multipliers!! If that is the case, then a good patchwork shirt is worth a ton...

(shirt value + cloth value + dye value) * (shirt quality * cloth quality * dye quality * patch quality * cloth quality * dye quality)
= (20 + 10 + 5) * (12 * 12 * 12 * 12 * 12 * 12)
= 35 * 2985984
= 104,509,440 DB

Of course, I have never made a full-masterwork shirt (and in fact never ever decorated a shirt with cloth patches either) so I don't know if this is actually possible .... but a legendary +1 dwarf makes about 50% masterwork (maybe, I could be overestimating significantly), so you would only need 2^6 = 64 shirts to get this holy relic of a dwarven shirt. Even if 10% of legendary goods are masterwork, that still means the ultimate shirt is only 1 million shirts away!! (and there would be 54 'near misses' with only one non-masterwork quality shirt, and 1620 'near-near' misses worth at least 35*12^4 = 725,000 DB)

Anyone have a couple of clothing items we can use to determine value??

(We need a clothing item, two dyed clothing items with different dye qualities, two patched clothing items with different patch qualities (no dye), an undyed clothing item, with a dyed patch, and maybe even a dyed clothing item with a dyed patch for me to determine the formula for clothing value. Just screenshot the long description of the clothing, along with it's value, and I will do the rest :D

All clothing items need to be the same type (obviously), and quality doesn't matter, as we already know the formulae from that here: http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/Masterwork)

Do you mean 'Conservatives Alarmed' or 'OMG CONSERVATIVES ALARMED!! KILLKILLKILLKILL!!'

I have been leaving at the first step 'Conservatives Suspicious' or something.

Oh, and also we *just* have enough guns. But I have been hiring some thugs that were going to do activism, so I guess I will use them as fodder, and keep my gunmen (with high agility) just doing basic raids for now.

The Crackhouse is the place where low-level crimes occur. The Toy factory is where we have been launching raids against factories (which include the murderer raid yesterday)

And Ehndras .... Ill try, but we are low on safehouses. We have homeless shelter (where only clean people stay, and no crimes occur), Meathouse (Margerettes safehouse, as she seems to be the other 'head' of the LCS), Toy Factory (high-level crime) and Crackhouse (low-level crime, and where Ehndras is staying ATM). We are buying the cheapest apartment we can find (I don't know where those are though...) Where do you want to be based out of?

And you just saved yourself being recruited as fodder ;) You will probably last about as long :P

March 6: The Boys, our little crime squad, has run into a little problem. Our main supply of loot, the oil refinary, has stepped up security after repeated raids.  This leaves really only the chemical factory for us to loot, which has several locked doors to gain entry. Our squad can't enter past two doors, before the conservatives becoming alarmed, and us having to bail out. We need a locksmith.

Thankfully, each of the members is going to have a prodigy. So crime has been stopped for a few days, while we find some good hippies down in the vegan co-op!

March 10: We welcomed two new hippies to the crew. One even had a little bit of security know-how, and both had excellent Agilty.

March 12: And a third new person, this time with incredable security, first aid AND agility! We welcomed Lycus with open arms.

With that, Antonio took over the crime squad, while Margarette decided to move to safer territory: The Meat house. There she would continue to monitor how everyone was going, protect our loot, and fence our equipment. We would be safe, and would not be crippled if the homeless shelter was raided.

In addition, the security measures at the Oil Refinary were lifted, and we took that as an invitation to cause mayhem.

March 17: We welcomed our first musician today. He is out on the streets drumming on empty barrels. He would love a guitar, and I have decided it might be a good idea to let him have it.

This also means Joan has signed up with The Boys. They are getting better and better at digging deeper and deeper into the Oil Refinary. I am sure one of these days we will be able to move the boys wherever, and thier sneaking skills will make it happen.

But we still need guns. We shared out 3 guns, but two of them only have 6 bullets each...

March 18: We have decided to expand one more time. This time, we are going to make a huge street gang, full of people with great street sense ... and probably some martial arts skills. They will take to the streets and spread the liberal message.

March 20: Luis ran into a 13-year old highschool dropout. A smart person, leaving school before the man taught them to be mindless slaves to the machine. If only I had  never gone to highschool, I wonder where I would be >.>

March 22: We recruited the first of the troublemakers: Yanping Proudfoot.

Also, our scouts found out that the cable news station is back up and spreading propaganda again. Brilliant

March 24: Cindy Fox is being bribed, as she has both Martial Arts skills AND street sense.

March 26: Louis King, a Dancer, with martial arts skills, has been recruited, And Maria Gleaves has FINALLY accepted to join, after nearly a week of persuasion and bribery.

March 28: And now Christine Swit joins the Troublemakers!!

March 30: We got front page news today. Apparently, however, Cindy Brox is STILL not joining the LCS.

March 31: Life might get alot more complicated now. The Boys got into trouble with a Non Union worker who refused to stand down. He struck first, hitting Lycus in the body with a chain, and then he was shot dead. Now we have people accused of murder, slightly before when we wanted them to for the plan.

When I heard of this, I looked at the group. They were concerned for thier own safety. They were good thieves, very good at disguising themselves, and very agile. But now we needed a new direction. We needed to train weapons. I said they should go to the crack-house and shoot the place up, but some were concerned that shooting up one of our safehouses might be a bad idea, especially it being the one our hacking and activism groups were based out of. The other option was scary, but worth considering: The Police station.

And there was a third option: To keep doing what we are doing, and shooting whoever gets in our way in the factories. One thing is for sure: We need a proper house, not just the abandoned toy factory we are currently using.

But today had a silver lining. Cindy Fox FINALLY joined.

[OOC] Each of the 'taken' charactors have thier stats sheets at the bottom of the big image below. Here are what each person is doing as of 1st April 2009:

Roman: Hacking Networks. Has already done some cool things. Still doesn't have his gun (I will buy it as soon as I buy a better safehouse). He will probably use Lycus' gun until he is back in action.

Margarette: As ordered, is staying safe in her own little safehouse, in the Meat house. There, she is using her good persuasion skills and black suit to raise funds through donations.

Lycus: Tending to his own wounds :P He will be out of action for a few days, which sorta sucks, as he is able to walk through locked doors like they aren't there!

Ehndras: Has just returned from being beaten up. Unless the real Ehndras has something to say about it, he is going to cause trouble as well, and probably get beaten up AGAIN :P

Valeria Myers [Now renamed Jimlad]: Selling art. She is probably the only person in the entire gang (aside from Lionel, who has done NOTHING) who hasn't got a rap sheet.

Alright: Where to train pistol skill, and when, and what would you like your charactors to do?[/OOC]

March Meeting:

At the end of the reports there was silence for a good five minutes. It was painful to see the congress cheering and patting each other on the back, the ever watchful eye of the elite in the balconies, twin mercenaries on either side.

Antonio broke the silence. "What do we do now??" he asked.

I was out of ideas. Margerette had one. "We continue the fight. They can't keep us down forever. We need to continue to recruit."

"And weapons." Roman said. "There will be a day when the police ... the death squads ... they will try and attack us. We need to continue to raise funds to pay for weapons, armor, disguises"

I nodded. It would be more of the same. We would raise funds to go towards the cause. We decided small troublemakers like Noel and Antonio were not doing much, and so Antonio decided to join Margarette in the raids against the factories nearby. We would try to recruit a group of 6 agile people, and then they would go up against the police stations. But first, we needed to get the people. The raids would start May, which gave us 2 months to recruit and buy appropiate weapons and armor.

We drew up all the things we needed: 6 shotguns or AK-47s, depending on the recruits skills, 6 agile recruits, 6 Police disguises, an apartment to rent, and a car.

Taking one last look at our little TV, we turned, and moved back to base. It looked like a longer and longer journey ahead of us. But now we could be called a gang.

[OOC] Any objections to this plan? Feel free to speak and give guidance on this plan for the future. [/OOC]

[OOC] Yip, I did. Ill just get $360 out of the bank.

*Wallet goes *poof* with dust as I open it*

Oh. Well... that'll have to wait. Tell me what you want the gun for, and Ill get it. Ill get it in time anyway, once I am not having to scrape the barrel with funds. I can't see a good use of that $360, however. [/OOC]

February 8: Margerette has found the perfect person for her jobs: Joan Richter. She darts around like no-one I have ever seen. I only met her briefly, while I was moving the gear around. Unforutunatly, Margarette isn't talking to me after I opted to forgo her Theatre training for an expensive suit for my work. She does have a spare 9mm gun we had lying around, and she is going off to the store to see how much a 44 Magnum costs. With these conservative gun laws ... I expect not much. Not that I have any use for guns.

And I still don't have my black suit. Awesome. Although Shepard is now a fully fledged liberal member of society. I think he will be a little more loyal to our cause now.

February 9: Apparently Margerette needs another $100 before she can get a gun, plus another $60 for ammo. I have asked her to be real sneaky like, and avoid trouble, instead of shooting it.

February 12: Noel got soundly beaten last night. She is going to be out of action for a month and a half while she heals her (significant) injuries. She managed to take two of the hicks out, but ... there were just too many. I hope she gets better soon!

February 15: I have finally yielded. Joan and Margerette are going to get Univerity training in Theatre. Hopefully we will have enough money to allow them to be trained up. Although with just $200, we don't even have enough for 2 days training!! I have sent Antonio to fence thier stolen chemicals at the pawn shop, and the rest of us will try and earn as much money as possible.

February 16: Wow. Apparently those fourth-rate suits Shepard made are actually worth something! Ill get him making another batch ASAP.

February 20: Shepard has made me a first-rate black dress. Quite fitting, I must say. I expect people to take me seriously now!

February 25: I have broken off most of my regular engagements today to try and find a good thief. I *presume* crack-heads would make good thieves, so I am going to go looking for one.

In other news, Margerets and Joan's training is complete. They seem to like Uni life, but we just can't afford to keep them there! Its already cost the LCS $1,200!! And we still need to fund-raise to get Margeret's Gun...

And the training was for naught. They are still not good enough to pass as competent security guards. Apparently we are going to need to fork out ANOTHER $1,200.

But the gun has just been bought. I hope that is enough...

March 1st.

It was the final votes for all the actions of Congress today. We all awaited with baited breath what would happen.

Lionel and Shepard were both sitting in the purple grass, looking at the TV screen, and looking at Resolutions 2009-5 and 2009-6, which would limit the powers of the police, and limit the death penalty to serious misconduct. It wasn't much, but it was a start. Now, we looked to see what would happen...

The votes trickled in. 2009-5, the death penalty was soundly crushed, 265 to 65. Furthermore, 2009-6 didn't fare any better: Defeated 258 to 58.

Furthermore, with Noel out of action, and my experimentation with the crack heads (all who were too STUPID to wield a lock-pick) failed, I guess I will have to rely on mutants for security uses.

We did find the car, however. Apparently the cops didn't confiscate it after the cable TV raid, and it was just sitting there for half a month!! We had a good hoot at that, that the cops were so close, and yet so far, for dealing a devastating blow to the LCS. So for the meantime, Margarette will just have to kick in doors to gain entry. And apparently, police uniforms are better uniforms than security guard uniforms for entering those sites, which is great! Things are looking .... alright I guess.

February Meeting: The gang met at Headout point, the place where Antonio's biological parents apparently met. It used to be a romantic place, a free place, with amazing views of the city, and a wide carpark. Now .... it was overgrown, and it's proximity to the river means that it sorta glowed at night. As for the city ... you couldn't see it through the smog. But not many people came here, so it was a perfect place for an impromptu meeting.

I came in with plans to take the homosexual agenda to the masses, as that seemed to be the issue of the day. But as soon as I walked in, and told them of my plans, I was accosted by Lionel and our newest recruit: Shepard.

"Are you mad?" Shepard asked incrediously. "We are hiding in a radioactive murk, under cover of smog, and your biggest concern are the gays?"

I was confused. "You think pollution then? Well... we don't have data on..."

Lionel sighed. "The Death Squads. While the penalty for un-regestered groups and loitering is execution on the spot, there is no point making any other law reforms! We *need* to boost public opinion on the death squads, and get them abolished!! Ideally, we would remove the death penalty completely, but for now ... the death squads should be our target"

I shuddered. He was right. But how could we go about this? We didn't have much money, and our best soldiers were gone. We needed to boost our recruits again.

We discussed. Hillary Margarette had a plan to boost public opinion. To do that, all she asked for was enough cash to buy a spraycan. I strongly doubted her ability to destroy the death squads with a spraycan, but her plan seemed robust enough. Shepard would make security uniforms, which would be stashed in the true safehouse. Shane would take to the internet again, spreading the liberal agenda, while the rest would cause general mayhem on the streets, until we had security uniforms, and enough money for guns.

[Edit]Valeria offered to help the coffers by legitimately selling art on the street in order to make some money. It was gratefully accepted[/Edit]

As for me ... well... my liberation of Shepard meant that I had a rap sheet for breaking and entering now. I couldn't stay inside though ... I needed to raise funds. And so I will. Out on the street. I hope I will never have to pay 'consequences' for liberating a human being from captivity.

[OOC] I guess I will start playing on February now :D [/OOC]

Anything you want to do something over the next month guys?

My personal plans (which you can override) are:

Shepard: Use up the supply of 19 (!) Fine Cloth we have stored away, and make as many high-quality security uniforms as I can. For the remaining 11 days, I will try and get him to do community service / Liberal Activism (although in 3.09 they decided to play shell games and sell thier bodies instead of gaining juice >.>) The last thing I need is Shepard getting arrested for being an alien (he was the sweatshop worker!), and ratting us out to the Death squads...

Hillary and Antonio have been quietly spraying people with paint and posting posters for the past month (thus, the high juice they both have). I am a little surprised they haven't been arrested / slaughtered yet, but I guess they will continue to cause mild activism until the point where they level up to allow thier own followers. Then I guess they go into hard crime, hopefully getting a gun (or stealing stuff until they can afford a gun), and finally killing whatever conservatives support the death squads (I HATE THOSE GUYS. So long as they are active, Lionel can't exercise his ~8 Intellagence / 7 Law :( )

Noel is in the Womens Lib, and will continue to gain juice until she can get her own follower, whereupon she will continue to use her street sense in causing havoc. (Unfortunatly, AFAIK from my memory, I can't train street sense from just spraying paint. I will have to check that, and work out how to improve her street sense)

Shane is the computer geek of the squad. He has been hacking credit card details to keep up with our MASSIVE recruiting budget, but now is just also causing havoc on the interwebs.

Valaria will either tag (if her high sneak and dodge helps her outrun death squads) or sell paintings (to help our sad, sad budget)

I think we have one recruitment slot open, and that will either be a doctor, or a high-security car thief (ATM, we don't *actually* have a car, because I (probably foolishly) lost it in the Cable News raid. And after the near-death experiance with death squads, I don't want to lose "Release", as everyone is counting on her. And she will just recruit all month, keeping the numbers up, and legally fundraising in our 'legitimate buisnessperson's hideout club'. Irregardless, we have 3 slots within 5-10 days opening up, and I don't think Shepard will stick around long, being an illegal alien in a country with no privacy and who push aliens out of the country at gunpoint.
