Let me be the first to say thanks for a mac version.  ;D

Edit: While trying to save an embark profile, I cannot use the delete key.  ???

Yes, animals do indeed age in cages.  I have a cage full of puppies and dogs who lived their entire lives in cages.  Eventually, I'll get around to training more war dogs.

Why go to the trouble of copying twice?

Copy the save folder once, with a different name in the same directory (i.e., "region1" and "region1 copy").  Start DF and load the copy.  Abandon that fortress.  Delete when done.  Less work, same results.  ;)

Turtles.

I WILL NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN.

Nor will I make the mistake of not turning the cooking of turtles off in the kitchen menu.  I had a Legendary Miner (who was also a mason, one of the starting founders) who flipped out because he couldn't make a turtle shell artifact and became an unstoppable killing machine. :(

Sadly, that fortress is unreclaimed because the dwarfs are convinced his vengeful ghost still haunts the place.

You can always view your dwarfs (u) and scroll waaaaaay down towards the bottom.  It'll show your dead dwarves eventually (you still have to remember his name, though).

Another alternative that you can do (what I've done in the past) is save back to the title screen, make a copy of your region folder, load the copy and abandon THAT fortress.  Then you can view the copied region in Legends without it affecting your main save.

I got a lame loincloth, too:

I wish I could make my Dungeonmaster wear this (and nothing else).

DF General Discussion / Re: 40D## macros
« on: December 22, 2009, 12:32:33 am »
Here's a macro that implements of the High Density Single Floor Housing design (61x61).  I finally got tired of drawing it by hand.  You'll need to bind it to whatever keystroke you want, but all the hard work is done for you now...

Go to where you want the middle of a 3x3 stairwell and execute for painless application.  When finished, you will start out with eight rooms next to the stairwell and you can dig out the rest as you need them.
