I would have thought after losing the great emu war that Australians would have learned their lesson about messing with wild animals.
Wait what? How do I not know about any of this stuff?  :-\

The lava tiles I've been making only do 8 damage if you start your turn on them. Granted this is early in the campaign, but I don't see why lava terrain would grow deadlier later in the game, or in multiplayer.
Hmmm they changed it up. either that or I remembered incorrectly.
Lava used to do 10 damage but it was reduced to 8. I've been in the game since the early beta and I'm pretty sure it's never been 20.

You could do 20 damage to a big 2x2 size enemy if you cast two lava tiles under it but even that was changed so the big enemies only take damage from one lava tile per turn.

There is technically one card in the game that does 20 damage (http://wiki.cardhuntria.com/wiki/Cards/Almighty_Bludgeon) but that isn't on any currently available items. It's probably reserved for future expansions or something.

Yeah, the MP packs are a really good deal, especially for a new player.

Well, in more cramped fights you're usually better off with the extra health of dwarves.

There are also fights where you really want to keep your distance (heavy hitters, zombies that stun you) or where you need to catch up with ranged foes (like imps). In those fights the better movement of elves is a good thing.

But you can pretty much pick whatever suits your playing style.

Card Hunter has finally gone live! Woohoo!

For those who haven't heard of it, it's a fun cross between a tactical RPG and a card game.

(Sorry about the low resolution, that's taken on my 1024x600 netbook)

The game's free but there's some things you can spend real money on (additional adventures, new skins, club membership which brings a little more random loot). None of it is really necessary though and you can enjoy the game fully without spending anything.

Here's a few reviews (written while it was still in beta):
http://venturebeat.com/2013/09/09/card-hunter-review/
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/06/13/card-hunter-preview-3/

And my own beta diary:
https://forums.cardhunter.com/threads/zalminens-beta-diary.608

The game can be found here: http://www.cardhunter.com/

There's been a few earlier threads about the game here, didn't feel like resurrecting them though:

Other Games / Card Hunter beta finally starting
« on: January 04, 2013, 06:57:57 am »
Since the old thread http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=89277.0 for this game was from 2011, I didn't feel quite necromantic enough to resurrect that one.

But for anyone interested, Card Hunter is finally entering beta: http://www.cardhunter.com/2013/01/starting-beta/
You can still sign up on the main page: http://www.cardhunter.com/

And for the ones that haven't yet heard of the game, it's a free game combining card collecting & fantasy adventure.

The first rounds of beta invites have been sent already, still anxiously waiting for mine  :)

DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress

Quote from: CaptainArchmage
Will Dwarf Fortress try to deliberately make navigable climbing paths up trees and through the tree-tops outside of forest retreats?
I don't understand this one -- you mean to make the elf sites accessible by climbing without blocking things off?  The elves exercise quite a bit of power over the shapes of their trees.

I think what he meant was whether it will be generally possible to move from treetop to treetop in any random forest or whether the trees will be too far apart to actually do that except in elf retreats.

Or maybe write a story of a person playing DF, telling the story of the game as it progresses.

Everything starts normal, then as the person gets more into the game he starts referring to real life events (neighbors making noises, salesguy at the door etc.) in dwarven terms.
As the game events begin turning for the worse the boundary between real life and the game events blurs even more until the reader is constantly wondering which are which - did the player just throw his actual pet out of the window or was it just part of the game?, Was the latest victim of the hammerer Urist McUseless or the guy next door? Is it really a goblin siege or the police surrounding the house?
And just what does happen when the mayor enters a martial trance and charges out the gate at the enemies?

DF Suggestions / Re: Mythological creatures

Or just take a look at the Wikipedia list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_legendary_creatures

There seems to be about a hundred creatures per letter  :o

Ha, found the relevant Toady post:

It's the "another HFS" he mentions at the end.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have the dead rising from graves, but it seems rather odd that people under such threat would bury their dead to begin with, unless other methods of burial/disposal carry risks of their own. It's not an unanswerable question, and I think potential answers could be interesting.
Because other methods of burial/disposal carry risks of angry ghost.

Well, not incineration and slab engraving.

Also, iic, all you need to properly burry dwarf is one bodypart. One bone for example. Single bone becoming undead is not all that scarry. What's it going to do?
...bone everyone?

Good idea and one that has already been suggested previously. Here, for example:
