but do expect your super-agile dwarves to rush into battle like never before, and to mow down enemies like some type of drunken automated wheat harvester. A short, axe-wielding one.Is there any other kind?

You'd be best editing their ethics. Then you can butcher elves, goblins, and the like.
It's good for making ammunition or blunt weapons because of its weight, and with a bit of workshop profile juggling it can be used to train up weaponsmiths and armourers without wasting more useful metal. It's also good for bins and barrels if you're short of wood, and a few bins of trade goods made and/or studded with it will go a long way towards keeping your fortress in food and booze.Weight has no corrolation to ammo effectiveness.
I prefer to make a single small danger room so my military dwarves become best friends. If they start dying left and right in a fight, then the berserk dwarves are probably going to be necessary.Yeah, including your own dorfs. Fun is to be had when the last military dorf is extremely skilled and berserk.
Berserk legendary military dwarves chop up pretty much anything into finely minced bits.
