A few notes:
1. There is no METAL material type - you should be using INORGANIC. It only works because the raw parser has a special case to treat METAL as INORGANIC.
2. The product dimension for thread should be 10000, not 15000.
3. Wood logs don't have a product dimension.

Still no good. I also noted, in reference to 1 that the default entries for the metal smelting has "METAL" instead of "INORGANIC"

Generated a new world after adding those entries. Only errors in errorlog are a few pathing errors for some aquatic creatures.

So in previous versions of DF, when I just wanted to goof around, I could modify the files so that my Smelter could spit our Adamantine or Iron or Steel with no input needed.

However, those edits do not seem to be working anymore. Does anyone know of a way to get this to work again? :(

Actually, I think smelting is considered an "economic" use of ores - basically, treating them as raw materials instead of mason fodder..
You can use charcoal to make vertical bars for some reason.

You can use soap to make workshops, walls, floors.. lots of things.

That usually means the mother died while carrying it, and it dehydrated while crawling around/waiting to grow to be a child

Except for the fact that the mother was still alive. She was 'unhappy' and had been dehydrated for a long time, but she was still alive. The game just wouldn't center on her. She also didn't appear ANYWHERE in the unit list (I checked every page, including the very lengthy list of dead creatures).

So I was watching my dwarves do their thing as per usual when I got an announcement that a dwarven baby had died of dehydration. I immediately went to my announcements screen and zoomed to the location only to find that it was in the middle of my dining hall. However, there was no corpse. I then went to my unit list and found the baby under the deceased creatures and looked at its relationships to find out who its mother was. From there I looked at her information and saw that she was "unhappy" and that she "has been dehydrated lately".  I attempted to recenter on her, but the game would not allow me to do so. I then went to my unit list and searched through it page by page for the mother dwarf, but she wasn't listed anywhere (not even under the deceased dwarves).

Anyone else had anything weird like this happen?

TL;DR baby dwarf died and its mother apparently doesn't exist anywhere on the map.

So my Outpost Liason just arrived at my fort.  Rather than going to meet with my Duchess or Mayor, he proceeded to go into the bedroom of one of my dwarves and simply sit there staring at a dwarven child.

My duchess has a thing for iron and toy boats. My fort is up to its armpits in iron toy boats, but I can't get rid of any of them because she constantly has export of iron items and toy boats banned.
