DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Beware the Giant Sponge
« on: February 24, 2012, 04:26:26 am »
So has anybody figured out the best way to catch and weaponize giant sponges yet?
because the river on my current fort is full of them.

I got a Rain of Human Blood that some how resulted in fever, mass brusing of all limbs and organs followed by rapid suffication.
I lost that fortress twice in 5 min.

It just occured to me that when the new release comes out. We could mod lycanthropy to make a were-kobolds Syndrome and give kobolds the abillity to infect other races with it via bite so we can have  more kobold madness as once a month your dwarves turn into were-kobolds and nick-off with your most expensive stuff.

the third year has come and I have just managed to flood Necrorelics primary food storage and dining room by reworking the waterfall to power a room full of millstone's on the level above food storage. thankfuly it's only 1-2 deep but it is taking a long time staunching the flow as my masons are frightened by a little bit of water. I finaly have metal working facilitys up and running near the magma sea unfortunatly the only metals i have are sapherlite tetrahedrite and cotton candy which i can't get to at the moment. Anyway as something to do i have decided to make Necrorelics live up to its name by memorializing every named creature that dies here and giving every dwarf a tomb at least 3x3 in size.

edit- forgot to mentiona mason died in an effort to increse the power of the waterwheel... oh well.

Necrorelics prospers Bizzarly in the year 1056 of our lord Armok(AKA still the second year). It is now a barony but we don't have enough people to elect a mayor yet. a third forgoten beast has turned up in the third cavern layer and an ambush of goblins have attacked us killing 3 dwarfs and injuring 3. All 3 injured have survived worst injured was Tholtig Iklistathel who has been promoted to sherif in light of his injurys which inculded sensory damage loss of the abillty to stand and a broken left lung which has left him short of breath suprisingly dispite being crippled and  a lack of cruches in the fortress at the moment he has been found continuing at his old jobs that he preformed before being injured.

Crabwhiped has died sue to FPS and dwarfs not being able to path to stockpiles they were standing in. so i threw a lever and drained a river in to the first cavern layer and abanded it.

In a dessert not filled with undead a few tiles over i have founded Necrorelics the site is on the junction of 3 rivers and has 2 waterfalls and uder the top 2 layers there is at least 4 to 5 layer of obsidian. my dining room is made obsidian with obsidian furnature and a waterfall falling through one end of it. unfortunately at the begining of the second year i had to savescum twice as the elvish caravan kept turning up with 3 squads of bow goblins in tow and i had no defences. eventual they and an ambush of spear goblins were delt with by the millitary. also i think my fortress is built on a forgotten beast highway or something as when i breached the first cavern layer by accident there was a forgotten beast right nex to the hole 1z level down it was only a blob of steam with a shell and thankful coulden't fly but the second cavern is now home to Urer Evilbeach the Hex of Drink a great Quetzal composed of ash it has two long spiral horns and it squirms an fidgets. who knows maby the 3rd year will net me one in the third cavern layer.

ok complaining on the forums about a lack of !!Fun!! in Crabwhiped instantly generates potential disasters !!Fun!!. My makeshift hospital looks like a slaughter house as the medical staff try to save the soliders who contracted Dwarf Rot from Ida's blood those with stronger constitutions are back at work whist delirious with fever. In the mean time a bronze collosus has shown up, followed by the outpost liason, followed by a goblin seige coprised of too many goblin lashers and one spear master. The goblins killed four more from the millitary, one trader, and a yak before dieing or being captured. all caravan garuds are dead but one as a result of the bronze collosus. most of the dwarf caravan is using the secondary entrance to access the trade Dept before i seal it with a bridge.

edit- I have just caught my first bronze collosus Suggestions anyone?

well Happy time is over in Crabwhiped for Isa the Forgotten Beast has come it is a Huge hairy iguana it has a fat bulgeing trunk and it is raverning. Beware its deadly blood. it attacked before i could finish the gate which would have sealed the first cavern layer althoug my mechanic nearly got the mechanisms installed before it got there. Millitary (well those who decided to come along) then proceded to Stab, Hack, Bash, Punch, Kick, Grapple, and Bite Isa to death by blood loss with only one dwarf dieing as a result of being thrown buy the head in to microline wall. as a result the survivers have dwarf rot it starts as nausia and slight pain with a fever before developing in to full blown swelling and rotting of everything but strangely showing no wounds. some of the soldiers also refuse to stay in the hospital prefering to continue training.  anyway wish me luck

also great art hjd_uk.

fourth year in Crabwhiped and I am lamenting a distinct lack of goblins, forgoten beasts and Zombie hoards. also dispite the surface being compleatly inhospitable to agriculture and lifein general i am practicaly drowning in foo and alcohol. so failing at being horribly raped by zombe wildlife at the start i am currently in the prosess of setting up the steel industry, training an army, and smoothing everything.

It seems like every time i post here i have a new fort. anyway it's now early autumn of the year 102 at Raptortombs after a year and a half in this embark which is a 50% terrifying (mountains) & 50% untamed wilds (woodland) biome. Things are looking good one fatality and one permenant cripple soon to be euthanized both because of skeletal giant eagles. i've discovered two of the cavern levels and i am heading for the magma sea next. I haven't really explored either of the caverns yet because everything in there is a zombie. beyond that i am trying to crank out as much bronze armor and weapons as possible so i can take on the caverns. (and because i set titans to start attacking at pop 40) also on a random note my hunter has discovered that he can shoot creatures in the first cavern by firing down the well shaft in the dinning room and has subsequently spent considerable time tormenting a Zombie Giant Cave Spider from relative safety.

Let's see i found a cavern layer (not sure which one) and had a forgotten beast wonder in to it at the same time a goblin siege arrived (they were the first goblins on the map and now they are boxing bags for my army) i am currently trying to find a safe way to breach the cavern layer and catch the forgotten beast.

A lignite quern.  It was worth 48,000 so I ended up sticking it in the baron's room, but still...from a practicality standpoint, I don't think lignite is the best material for grinding food.  Unless you like your dwarven flour to be fortified with the smooth pilsner flavor of ancient peat, that is, or want your cloth dyed a lovely shade of sewage.

Of course, it just had to be a possessed mood so the peasant that made it promptly returned to hauling stone and garbage after the fact.

Don't knock the lignite quern mine mengthulner the inconsiderate lakes has an image image of a dwarf in a the fetal position in lignite and some longland grass in shale my other artifacts are a yellow jasper ring and a perfect onyx which are useless although my pair legendary jewelers has kept me afloat through some rough seasons
