Life Advice / Reluctant NEET
« on: December 12, 2017, 10:14:26 pm »
So, I've graduated high school this year, and now I find myself living with my parents at age 20, with no job, no higher education, no driver's license and no car, and I live out too far from town to feasibly walk there. (I tried once; it took me most of the day and I had to rest multiple times.)

As if that didn't close enough doors, I have no experience with anything(not even volunteering, I mean NO experience) and no references, either. It seems like I'm doomed to stay a NEET until I get kicked out of my home altogether. I have applied for several jobs online, and I've even gotten a few interviews, but I am still nowhere close to getting a job.

My pretty much nonexistent work ethic probably doesn't help either. I'm honestly kind of lazy, even though I often flip-flop between wanting to stop being lazy and being perfectly content just sitting at home playing video games all day.

halp pls

Life Advice / Re: Researching sushi bars?

I'd love to, but unfortunately, a 19-year-old still in high school doesn't exactly have the money to spend on sushi, even if he does get social security money. :P

Thank you very much for the information so far- it's proving to be extremely helpful! I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me about some resources I could peruse for more research.

Life Advice / Researching sushi bars?

So, there's this MUSH I play, and I plan to at some point make a character who owns a sushi bar. But the thing is, I've never been to a sushi bar and we don't have any here in town, so now I want to do research on that kind of place and the food it serves. How would I go about doing that?

Also, any information on sushi bars and their food would be much appreciated.

Life Advice / Getting a laptop
« on: September 19, 2016, 03:52:44 pm »
So I've been meaning to get a laptop lately, and I've been wondering how much a decent gaming laptop costs; my current PC is mediocre at best for running games and I'm tired of having to crank the graphics down on everything I play. Especially when it doesn't work.

But I'm also on a budget, since I'm basically living on social security money for the time being. Are there any gaming laptops out there worth buying that aren't horribly expensive?

Life Advice / Re: Standing up for myself does nothing
« on: August 01, 2016, 02:18:39 pm »
Well, it's not entirely my family; it's more just assholes I encounter in general. But my father is definitely one of those people, and as I still live with him-- I'm 18, but still in school-- I have to deal with his shit on a daily basis. I've long given up the idea of trying to change him, though, and I'm definitely planning to move out when I can, but until then, I'm stuck with him...

Either I'm doing it wrong, or all the people saying to stand up for yourself are full of shit. I am very quick to call out people when they're being an asshole and nothing happens. No matter what I do, people just spit in my face and keep doing what they're doing, and I'm getting sick and tired of it. It's getting to the point where it feels like I'm getting fed a constant stream of bullshit 24/7, and there's nothing I can do.

Am I really doing it wrong? Are people just that awful?

Gotta say, I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Raven's Cry among the suggestions here :P

Other Games / Haven: Mist and Shadow
« on: January 30, 2016, 02:39:16 pm »
Haven: Mist and Shadow is an urban fantasy horror MUD. It takes place in the small New England town of Haven, which is a weak point between our world and the various other worlds, such as the Wilds, a place similar to our own, but with archaic creatures like dinosaurs and mammoths, as well as several tribes in varying stages of technological development; The Other, the world closest to ours, with magic monsters and the Golden City, home of the Fae race; The Void, a plane of nothingness filled with Lovecraftian horrors; and, of course, Hell.

In this game, the Earth is filled with different factions competing for dominance worldwide, each with their own goals and philosophies. This constant conflict is commonly referred to as the Supernatural Cold War, the Conflict, or the Struggle. It involves little direct conflict in favor of behind-the-scenes, cloak-and-dagger tactics, though violence certainly does occur.

As is common for roleplaying MUDs, players can create characters with detailed backstories, goals, and secrets. However, your character's fears can play an integral part of the game as well- it is a horror game, after all.

If you do choose to play the game, be warned: one of the core themes is that power corrupts. If you make a character who is powerful, they will be corrupt and evil in some way. If your character becomes powerful, they will be corrupted as a direct result- the power may even be a result of the corruption. Perhaps your character is more of a well-intentioned extremist who sees themselves as righteous and justified, but whatever the case, the more power you acquire, the more corrupt you will be.

There's a lot more to the game than that- more than I can really explain. If you want to learn more, check out the website here. It's a very interesting game and world, and I highly recommend it!

Other Games / Pirate/swashbuckler games

I've recently found myself having something of an obsession for the Pirate genre. I've been reading Treasure Island, making characters for pirate-world stories, listening to Alestorm, watching Pirates of the Caribbean, etc.

All this is all well and good, but I need games! Preferably free, but go ahead and throw commercial games up here, too.

I already play or have no interest in:
Puzzle Pirates
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Pirates of the Burning Sea

Granted, but now he fails to see the errors in any other wishes that contain them.

I wish for my writing skills to be inexplicably amazing.

Banned for being so presumptuous as to assume you have the authority to ban anyone!
