How much charcoal does burning one unit of wood give you? I ask because the amount of coke given from lignite and bit. coal was increased drastically in DF2012. Is it still a 1 to 1 ratio?

Turn up the minimum volcano amounts, and eventually, you should get what you want.

Look for the "Minimum Number of Volcanoes" parameter, and crank that one up.

* Finding any site with bituminous coal or lignite has proven to be very difficult, even with prospecting. It seems that since v.31.xx, these materials have been generated less often. Is there some setting I can use to make worlds that have more of these?

* How deep should I dig for a fortress? I notice that many people will dig very deep down, even starting out.

I have turned invasions on after I started a fortress, and I now continue to play that fortress. Will it have any effect?

I feel kind of silly, but trying to start overseer gets me this error:

The program can't start because d3dx9_43.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
I thought this program used OpenGL for rendering by default?
Can someone help me?

I joined this game about two weeks back, and I love it. I played for a few months back in 2009 - 2010, but lost interest due to the lack of wars. Doesn't seem to be an issue this time around. Its free this time, too, so that's also great.

Download the game. Give it a shot. My logic is that if you can figure out DF enough to play it, you won't have too much trouble with this.

Read:  Haxus added pirates that pull from any published designs, including secret, unbuilt TL32 designs from some of the larger empires, and repeatedly spawn mobs of up to 10-15 of them in your systems at whatever your current tech level is.

The warfleets of virtually all empires in the game were wiped within a week, and instead of recognizing the system as fundamentally broken, Haxus just toned them down slightly to 5-7 at a time, since he stated he wanted to keep large empires from being run by only one or two players.  :P

I was running a good sized empire (Blitzfaust) on the edge of populated space with a couple friends, and we got buried by pirate versions of Tymas and Toucan warships.  Couldn't even build new ships, since they spawn in orbit within reach of the pirates.

That WAS true, but that is no longer the case. Pirates are now only a nuisance. You can play safely.

The other topic I found about this game was 300 pages long and the last post was 11 months ago, so I'm making a new thread.

So, Shores of Hazeron. Easily the most ambitious indie MMO I have ever seen in my life.

For those of you who don't want to look at the trailer, look at the trailer. It explains the game far better than I can.

The best way I can describe this game in one sentence is Spore Space Stage: The MMO. Except, unlike the Space Stage, Shores of Hazeron is actually good.

Again, the trailer really does a great job explaining the game.
