Luke, as a non-programming Mac user I'd just like to say good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I'm running the OSX version (thanks by the way, it's amazing we finally have this...) and I've run into a couple issues.

I can't change the nickname or professions through therapist; I edit the name and it's not reflected in therapist, though it's shown as a pending change.  When I commit changes, it isn't reflected in the game.

Also, my waves are being split up strangely when sorting by wave.  Every migrant wave is split up into different waves of three or four dwarves each.  Children born in the fortress are considered their own wave, which I suppose makes sense.

Running 34.06 (same troubles in .05) with Mayday graphics.  My files are also packaged inside the .app from the JollyBastion mod.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Oh god, the children...

When I switched from a 250 year old world to a 550, the number of children who migrated dropped by something like 80%.  Before I would get something like 50% useless kids, now maybe one or two per wave.  YMMV

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Dig out a stairway going up?

No burrows, and I had miners with 'no job' listed.  Still don't know what happened....I ended up doing an annoying roundabout to dig from the top.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dig out a stairway going up?

Somehow I haven't run into this before...   I dug out an up stairway in a wall, and right above it I designated an up/down stairway, but they refuse to mine that stairway out.  Can you not build a stairway from the bottom up?

Same thing happened to me once...when I checked my z-screen it showed I had far more wealth than I was supposed to have  For some reason it counted an artifact sword worth several hundred thousand in my possessions, no idea where it came from.  I was ambushed almost immediately....

DF Gameplay Questions / Neverending battle
« on: January 14, 2011, 01:04:03 pm »
So I had an ogre wander into my 1st year fort and I immediately sent my lone Hammerdwarf to take care of him.  With his iron hammer he casually bashed her head in....and then did it again.  And again.

I now have 40 some odd pages of this ogre getting her skull crushed yet she will not die.  I drafted everyone else in my fort to help, and they all have 40 pages of punching the ogre in various body parts.  She can't be anything but fleshy pulp by this point.  Every bone in her body is broken.  I can't undraft anyone because they'll all freak out and run down a dead end corridor...

Everybody is getting REALLY thirsty and hungry, it's been a few months of carnage now....is there any way I can finish her off quickly so no one starves to death during this honestly quite troubling blood bath?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: War tag at embark disappears!?

Uhh....nevermind.  I just realized I must have been switching my home civilization as I moved around the map, which obviously would change war relations with neighbors.  I guess I'll leave this here for future generations to gaze upon my stupidity in wonder....

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / War tag at embark disappears!?
« on: January 11, 2011, 06:29:51 pm »
This has happened a few times now....I flip through a few embark locations to find a good spot, and I notice that one spot says I am at war with the elves or the goblins or whoever.  A bit later I go back to that exact same spot, and the war tag is gone in the neighbors screen.  I'm on the latest DF version using Mayday on a Mac.  Any idea what could be causing this?  I feel like I'm going a bit nuts, ...not enough alcohol in my diet perhaps?
