DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Uses for vampires!
« on: March 06, 2012, 07:48:29 pm »
We can seal them in a 1 tile room with walls or a locked door and our fortress will never see it's end.

The exact opposite, if you think about it. We'll get to watch the end of our fort even after the dwarves die. (Cool to see trolls bash the wrong floodgate, gobbos fighting off evil wildlife/weather in the fort they invaded. etc.)
That's kind of what he meant. Kinda. I believe what he was saying is that if you lock a vampire up, even after everyone else dies you will never see the 'end' screen.

I'm not so sure they would stop. Maybe each dwarf in the entire world is fated to end up creating an artifact sometime in their life. So it's quite possible for every single migrant you ever have to create some object of bad-assery.

Turn the cheat thingy in Dwarf Therapist on. Or, if you don't want to cheat, just lock them in a cell in which you can throw food and water from time to time. Maybe a stray vampire or two as well... and werewolves never really hurt either.

adventure!

that means become a maceman and kill everything that moves.
beware of archers though.

A fort full of military dwarves with maces could easily repel the largest of onslaughts. Set up some random windows too, watch them punt goblins through the glass.

Well, couldn't you drop the cages by building out some flooring, then removing part of it? That's how I got rid of my caged invaders before I realized you could just chuck them in.

I think this is suitable, seeing as how they have cost me many injuries with their toothpick arrows. You so much as step outside and it's like that pigmy mummy scene from the Mummy Returns. Very scary.

I wonder if you chopped one to bits if the limbs could also pick the locks. I'm seeing in my mind a kobold hand sticking it's finger into the lock and jiggling it around.

In 2 years of Dwarf Fortress i started therapist once and did not like it.

Never used it again.

That's like playing StarCraft without a keyboard.

I had a swarm of zombie mussel shells attack me. The only thing I could do was dig as fast as I could into the side of the mountain and haul all my food and wood inside. When migrants showed up, I had them wrestle the shells to death, but when some grasshopper men got involved, they all died. Next thing you know, I've got a swarm of zombie dwarves fighting all the animals that come onto the map. They are multiplying rapidly. Once I hit magma, I am going to flood the entire world. I also had to lock two bodies and some body parts in a part of my fort because they were 'disrupting work'.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Zombies - Important Questions

As far as I know, once something dies, it's eligible for zombification. I was swarmed by hundreds of mussel shells once my fishers got on a roll. The rate of zombification seems to be pretty quick, I didn't quite time mine, but it seemed like every minute or two after something died, it came back. Spears seem to work pretty good on said mussel shells, and I also got them to work on zombie wolverine people. I'm not sure about the harmless body parts, as a hand still punches like a hand. Fingers seem harmless enough, all they do is push. Same with the said shells. As for the children/babies, I haven't had any of mine die yet, so I'm not sure.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: how do i deal with vampires
« on: February 16, 2012, 12:45:36 pm »
Once you find out who the vamp is, could you still put him in the military? If so, you will have a much easier way to kill him, be it dropping a tile on his head, dropping him in Magma, or just lock him outside to fight for you. I doubt you care about his happiness.

Let's hope he doesn't die before the 100 year mark. Treat him well.

Dam it and cage the fishes.

And then it rains. Build a roof of bridges over it, or ensure you have adequate drainage.

Adequate drainage into your fort is also a fun idea! But seriously, the biggest dangers I've had with rivers were gators, and my dwarves dodging off the edge of the shore. As long as they stay away from the edges, you should be fine. I stress 'should'.

Maybe they are working to hard? Don't think I've ever seen a Dwarven Union before, but there's a first time for everything!
