all my farms are just inside the cliff face. lately i haven't been hitting the river until some idiot goes into a fey mood and starts demanding gems and ore.

my rooms are (er, were) all around 560 a piece; but i don't think they cost rent if you assign them. you can also simply turn off renting that room, and i think people can just move in for free.

DF General Discussion / i'm stumped. why can't i make animal traps?
« on: August 20, 2006, 09:42:00 am »
my carpenter won't try. my metalsmith won't try. my trapper will try, but gives up. i just can't get any of my shops to actually produce an animal trap of any sort, nor can i find instructions to explain what i'm doing wrong. what's going on? what materials are required?

oh, bonus question: why do silk bags not qualify as bags for the purpose of collecting sand?

placing a stockpile (finished goods?) under the items may help reduce their desire to pick them up.

not much more to it than that. they don't appear to do so already, so i think it would be logical, beneficial, and not add complexity if idle hunting dogs were to automatically retrieve any of the various bits of dead animals from around the map.

i do believe that dwarves are not terribly fond of blood everywhere. just don't be like me and flood your fortress to clean it up... and take out the entire outside world in the process.
