When you sell them a lot of items, it does seem to take longer for them to pack them all up.

The current Steam release version, experimental branch.

Shortly after this event, more visiting barons came down and were slaughtered. Now the temple and the tavern/dining hall is covered in bodies and blood and I've been spammed by messages of inheriting titles, more deaths, and now 5 of them were eventually passed to my people, so now I have 5 Barons in addition to a duke and monarch.

My monarch moved their court to my fortress some time ago, and shortly after they arrived I got a message about Barons and Baronesses visiting. Which ended up being about 33 visitors. Around 7 were goblins, the rest were dwarfs. The queen is herself a dwarf as is her consort. They've been hanging out in the temple for about a year.

The fortress came under siege so I activated burrows and brought everyone inside. 3 goblin snatchers arrived at the same time and moved in immediately, and the moment they got close enough for my marksdwarfs to start shooting at them, most of the visiting nobility went hostile and massive brawl breaks out in the temple. Unfortunately for them some wardogs and some tame grizzly bears were also in the temple, and started tearing into the goblins. Then everything goes crazy.

The bear attacks the goblin again and proceeds to shake the goblin around by the head until it dies.

Another bear charges a different goblin, but the goblin deftly keeps dodging, the bear plows through the crowd, and knocks a cat aside somehow without injuring it, charges again and slams the goblin. Then it bites into the goblin's stomach and chews them to pieces.

The wardogs get some, and also proceed to throttle some of the gobbos to death.

At this point, a military squad on the way to station and await the invaders walk by the temple and decide to join in. Then the combat log turns into a chaotic mess as the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones seems to be re enacted inside the temple. The soldiers charge in and heads and limbs start flying everywhere. Blood pools and spatters covers more of the temple floor than not. Moments later, 17 of the 33 or so visitors lay dead. Barons, Baronesses, consorts, and I guess their entourages of peasants and such. As far as I can tell, none of my people were injured or killed. A few of them are still praying while the room is covered in limbs and viscera.


It started the moment the goblin snatchers were attacked by the military. But they were snatchers - can the nobility of enemies visit your fortress? Why would they come with my monarch? Of the 17 dead, about 5 were goblins and were the first to die, but the rest were dwarfs. Dwarfs raised by goblin snatchers, perhaps? None of my zones allow outside visitors, so other than 3 monster slayers (which didn't participate) there have been no other sources of visitors. There is one lone goblin baroness who has been left untouched. The temple was deep inside the fortress, where the snatchers were on the surface level when they were pelted by crossbow bolts.

I was unable to find what caused a grizzly bear to be propelled into a wall. Can creatures slam themselves into walls on a missed charge?

The goblins in the actual siege made it to the front gate and then just noped out and headed off without any conflict.

I'm very confused.

There is the DFHack command https://docs.dfhack.org/en/stable/docs/tools/make-monarch.html, that might work for a test.

You could try adding the SQUAD token to their entry ([POSITION:MONARCH]) in vanilla_entities/objects/entity_default.txt, some thing like
Code: [Select]
[SQUAD:10:royal guard:royal guards]
or relonduthnur, the literal translation in dwarven.

Thanks, I did so. But the save game seems to be compressed so I don't know how to edit the files for the save so I imagine it'll be tricky to test since it relies on having a monarch in your fort.

Honestly I'm surprised if you can't. I mean, my nobles have always been a part of my military. The Duchess of my current fort is in a squad right now, and I'm pretty sure the Monarch of my very first fort was also in a squad.

Or maybe it's just that they can't be the commander of the squad? Not sure on that, I guess. My Duchess is not the commander of her squad, and I don't remember from my past forts which positions in the military squads the nobles held.

But if that's the case, well, just don't make them the squad leader, and you should still be able to make them a squad member which would still allow them to fight. No modding necessary. That's been my experience with the Steam version of the game, anyway.

Thanks, You are correct, they can be a member of a squad, but not the leader. It's a start. But he's still the best suited for a job and I kind of like the idea of a warrior king who personally leads his soldiers in to battle. I imagine it would be possible by editing the raws, and I'd still like to try it if anyone can figure out how to allow them to be squad leaders.

I want to make a Dwarf extremely overpowered and god mode basically adding everything possible with Gui/gm-editor if you know what and I need to add to make this dwarf chuck norris on steroids please share.

You could start with using the DF Hack command armoks-blessing.

That will reduce their age to 20, and massively boost their physical and mental stats.

Steam version. Can someone help me by explaining what I need to do to allow monarchs/nobles to be appointed to military positions? I have rudimentary modding experience with DF.

And is this possible to make this change to an existing save? My by far best fighter just got named King, and not being able to have him fight is a serious blow to the fortress. Being at war with Goblins, Kobolds, and a nearby Tower, this one thing is probably going to spell doom for this fledgling fortress otherwise.

Is it at all possible to make this work with the Steam release?
I tried redirecting my Soundsense config to read the steam release's game log, but didnt seem to get any sound effects triggering.
Did get the music though.

Very much this. I really miss being able to use this.

 The game is not what it used to be without SoundSense.

I tend to turn a number of the least useful citizens to be basically full time haulers by disabling most or all other jobs.

Hmm.. I wonder if there is a heightmap of Mars that one could import into Perfect World because Valles Marineris, the largest canyon in the solar system would be pretty cool. That or maybe the Grand Canyon.

Embark Assistant is frequently freezing my game the moment I press F after enabling it.

It will work fine for awhile, then spontaneously it will just quit working and freeze the game every time.

That seemed to be the case for me as well. I disabled Vampires and Werebeasts in my current world and it's still early but so far instead I've been attacked by:

Year 2: Cyclops
Year 3: Goblin Siege and a Roc by summer. That Roc massacred a bunch of livestock before the military took it down. Now we'll feast for months.
