DF Gameplay Questions / Re: I ain't swimming there
« on: July 06, 2008, 07:18:54 pm »
I've seen pools refill by themselves every year, but they must not be dry at the new year else they won't refill...

I'm pretty sure the bucket didn't get destroyed. It must be somewhere in the cave in, and since it's the first bucket from top left to lower right, the dwarves continuously try to get it again and again...

Now, do the exact inverse. Place the no quality up, and the highest quality down. Two results are possible:

1- The bottom bridges will all open in the same order again, proving your experiment is flawed somehow or
2- the bridges will open from top to bottom, proving your point.

4
If the workshop is full (of crafted items), they'll eventually refuse to work in it...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Sieges under population 80?
« on: July 05, 2008, 08:42:32 am »
I've had sieges when as low a population of 30-40, but that was several versions ago. I can't say if it been changed since then.

That particular fortress produced almost solely obsidian goods. Might have something to do with total wealth.

DF Modding / Re: Graphic Set Question

Yup. I've fixed that problem, it was because there was no reference to the dwarves image in the graphic_main directory. I was using graphic_example.txt, which was plain wrong.

After much fiddling around and trying new 16x16 tilesets, this is now my best:

I really miss my old tileset though. It seems to be one of a kind, it's the only tileset on the Wiki which target a 800x600 fullscreen resolution...

Maybe I should make a new one...

DF Modding / Re: Tile Set-Graphic Sets Suggestions

1) I agree with you completely. I tryied several kind of graphic mods and I always ended up going back to the original. I made a custom curse version that I use, but that's it and the changes are very minor.

2) Yes, there is some lag but it's very minor. It will take away some FPS if your computer is already straining under the task, but even then it should be up to 3-4 max. People usually don't notice the difference.

3)N/A

4) Graphics mods change nothing to the game. The only difference is the image sent to the screen on a given imput... Which mean there can't be instability and such.

DF Modding / Re: Bows vs. Crossbows

The difference in Fortress mode VS Adventure mode is that in Adv, you need to pick up the weapon you want to use yourself. In Fortress mode, you are limited on the list of weapon in your (M)ilitary screen for the dwarves will refuse to pick up anything they don't know or can make themselves.

End result is that you have greater freedom in the kind or type of weapon you want to wield in adv mode since you can pick up anything. For example, there is some kind of myth around in which dwarves can't wield a pike... They can do that fine in Adv mode, and train the according skill. Not in Fortress mode.

And what is the capitalised O? The well?

I find interesting how you managed to blend characters which have multiple purposes.

What about the up/down stairs? I don't see it in your tileset. Does the game use the capitalised X letter for it?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Will I ever be strong?

It been suggested around that dwarves can still upgrade their attributes over the max, there is simply a shortage of names...

When you'll grow up, you'll be able to get as strong as you like. For now, eat your plump helmet pudding and go clean your room!
