DF Suggestions / Smart Production
« on: July 13, 2010, 12:12:42 am »
I would like a system that could be set up, probably via the manager, whereby you could set production of goods based on population.

As an example you set it so that if number of beds is less than the current population workshops automatically assign the difference as work orders. This would also help tremendously with immigration.

An extension of this idea would be for the military, if a dwarf is unable to find equipment you set for him/her it can become a work order. Maybe some sort of requisition dwarf.

Probably Dwarf civilizations can't reach your site.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Funny Sleeping in Barracks
« on: April 16, 2010, 10:15:42 am »
Double checked it. The Barracks is designated from one of the armor stands, fills the whole room including all beds and other furniture. So no error there.

Goin to keep an eye on the barracks and see if it happens again. Might be something to do with multiple furniture items in the barracks zone.

Though if I could persuade them all to sleep on weapon racks you could fit a lot more dorfs in the sleeping areas.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Funny Sleeping in Barracks
« on: April 15, 2010, 12:04:21 pm »
Just had a dwarf go into the barracks to sleep and he used a weapon rack. Everything was setup correctly anyone else seen this? Barracks had 6 empty beds for him to use, two armour stands and two weapon racks.

It conjures up a rather odd image in my head  ???

Real stupid one this, setup a series of floodgates to transport water from the brook into the deep part of my fortress. All worked perfectly except I had forgotten to block the initial access point for my miners/mechanics by the brook. Area filled up with water then flowed back into my main access shaft and proceeded to dump water straight into my deepest level.

I relearned the lesson, safety first!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: FPS vs. Speed
« on: April 11, 2010, 02:09:22 am »
Gah I'm having to play on 1.7Ghz Dual core laptop with only a useless onboard video chipset and 1GB of Ram, but without fiddling with the world gen settings I usually get 100fps at embark and around 50 on developed forts. I found using a 4gb flash drive for readyboost greatly improved my performance.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Training?
« on: April 07, 2010, 02:11:41 am »
You have to enable training in the barracks. Select it with q the toggle training with t. However I've noticed that dwarves won't do civilian tasks anymore once they have done any training even after you remove them from the military. So career soldiers only!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwarfs stuck after military
« on: April 06, 2010, 06:54:02 am »
I did some playing about and discovered that Dwarves refusing to do anything after being removed from the military only seems to happen if they ever had any training job, whether sparring/group or individual.

I found that if I needed to activate a lot more dwarves for just emergency defence they would happily return to the previous jobs provided I had turned off training in the barracks before activating them. Disbanding the squad before reactivating the training in the barracks for my usual military.

Anyone confirm this? Or is it some other quirk I can't fathom

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Cave crocodile nervous tissue

Might just be a biproduct of the new tissue system, but there might be more use for it in the future, Dwarven Soothsayers lol. *I see in this nerve tissue that the fortress will have much fun in the next year!*

Oddly i find it much better in this version, had to play it on my laptop after my old pc died and 40D used to chug with only a few dwarfs. The openGl improved version worked better. But the 2010 one runs really well for me on the laptop.

Was still getting 40+ FPS even with a largish population. Though I tend to get times when the game just freezes for several seconds then goes back to normal.

The soundtrack to Shadow of the Colossus has always served me well. Especially if the more epic battle songs start up during a fight.
