Agreed, this is a great game even though its only an alpha. The persistent (and HUGE) world map is very cool. Managed to locate my very first fortress.. thought it caved in or something, it was messy and didn't really have any form (or much else for that matter). Turns out that was just the way I built it. 
Also, I for one am against adding graphics to Dwarf Fortress. That time could be better spent coding, plus I bet everyones idea of a/thier dwarf(s) is different, along with all the animals in the game too.
