DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: October 01, 2012, 05:10:38 am »
Had all my crossbows path into my goblin incinerator on the way to archery practice rather than the shorter, safer route :( I paused the game and had one minute of silence followed by 10 of loudly cursing in their honour. Gobbo siege killed all the undead but another necromancer troop turned up. I think being near several towers will ensure a steady supply of interesting things... which is a damn shame I need a moments rest so I can get an anvil and start making metal...

Been hiding in my fort ever since 50 undead turned up. Just had a goblin ambush arrive - they are now dispatching zombies, thanks greenskins :)

Got off to a rough start as a sea lamprey killed two of my starting seven (caravan right next to the river) but got over it and dug deep, starting my fort at level 0 (with a trade depot accessible by ramp at level 100). Just tapped magma :)

Just crippled half my starting 7. Something about hauling heavy barrels on ramps. I saw combat come up but didn't check the reports (unit list was empty so I thought it was yaks duking it out on a small pasture).

Bundle them up as aid packages and drop them on donate to the primitive indigenous waste of FPS cultures in the caverns.

Reluctantly I trade with them - trading my dabbling craftrers rock baubles for stacks of food, booze and cloth jumpstarts my fort development. I hate them though, when I first started playing, many, many moons ago, the first fort I established where I didn't succumb to starvation, dehydration or animals eating my starting seven, during that unforgettable moment when I thought I was getting the hang of things, elven ambush! 30 archers just peppered the hells out of everything :( Been creating sealable floodable trade depots ever since ;)

An ent in disguise‼

The first time I captured a titan. It felt like the scene in King Kong when they trap him :)

Even if you've got a very good diagnoser turn the labour on with all medical dorfs, they can't be treated until they are diagnosed - that might be the rate determining step here.

Oooh, goblin danger room! Don't forget that gobos gain experience too (I saw some regular goblin soldiers become weapon masters during long battles. They become quite tough critters.

Came here to say that - it sounds as though you've trained em a wee bit already :(

Fresh embark is a dream, large desert basin surrounded by iron bearing mountains on three sides, small brook in the side that's flat.

Digging down I found two magmapipes nearly touching one another in the caverns. I also have snakes!

Time to glass it up :)

We're forgetting the most important point here. What steps can dorfs take to stop bow strings pulling on their beards? Think of the beards!!

Terrible migraine and bad mood, decided I didn't like the look of my 2 week/30 hour fortress so abandoned. Even though I wasn't under siege it said I was conquered (ambush in waiting?) so I guess I won't be getting my old dorfs back.

New embark, pastures green and new :)

Lost a few cavern based hunters to GCS - thankfully baby notification spam usually pauses gane every 2 minutes when I'm absent from game
