DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Capturing Animals (outside?)
« on: August 25, 2006, 09:53:00 am »
You can build traps, and then queue up "Capture Large Land Animal" or something like that in the ... Kennel? I think. That seems to work. I captured three fairies and a rat, so I assume it works the same for large animals. You can transfer them to cages by assigning them from the q menu on the cage.

This is unbeliveably cool. I hope this stays.

DF Bug Reports / Butchering cats causes trouble.
« on: August 28, 2006, 11:41:00 am »
Seems to be that the animals list isn't updated when a cat adopts a dwarf. I had queued up a bunch of cats to be butchered (which really depresses me  :( ) but then had a couple dwarves throw tantrum because their pets had been killed. In fact I can't see any cats that are listed with owners in the list at all.

It would be good if those are listed properly. Also, if a cat that adopts someone is removed from the butcher's queue. We don't have any control over when it happens, so it's quite hard to keep from killing pets.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Path finding spam
« on: August 29, 2006, 11:12:00 am »
I have a cloth maker spamming that she couldn't find a path to collect webs for a while even though there were webs all over. I finally figured out that one web somehow got into the same space as a mason's workshop, and I had to delete the shop, let her collect it, and then rebuild. I couldn't even delete the task from the loom queue, it would magically appear again (and I didn't have it in the manager queue either.)

Only your first year has that problem. Your dwarves quickly get on different schedules so that there's always things going on.

DF Suggestions / Specify what to load into the catapult.
« on: August 29, 2006, 01:55:00 pm »
I was just thinking it would be cool to be able to specirfy what to use as ammo for the catapults. Might be fun to load furniture, goblin prisoners, cows, dead bodies into the catapults.  :D

DF Suggestions / Re: Assignable Workshops

Oh yes. This would be awesome! Right now what I do is only assign Craftworking to my legendary guys and when they have to sleep production stops. (although this isn't so bad since they produce this stuff faster than Taiwan.)

Unless it was really abstracted in that they just need them around otherwise they get unhappy.

DF Suggestions / Ability to play music in a user folder
« on: August 25, 2006, 10:07:00 am »
Since the music files are .ogg anyway, it would be cool to have a sub folder under the /sound directory that the program could look in instead of playing the standard music and would pick random songs out of and play. Or play in order if random is too much of a pain. Should be a quick change and all you would have to do is drop some .oggs (although .mp3s would be ideal) into it.

(PS: Note that I love the in-game music, but it would be cool to have some other stuff play too.)

Yeah, good idea!

I kind of expected the job screen would tell me not only what each dwarf is currently doing, but also what dwarves I have assigned to what tasks. It seems to me that the Jobs screen and the Unit screen are very similar, just sorted differently.

What I would REALLY like to see is a list of each task and all the dwarves that have been set to do that task.

So it might say:

code:

Fishing:
    Stinky Wilzzleteat - Fisherdwarf
    Abraham Lincoln - Fisherdwarf
Architechture:
    None
Mining:
    Abraham Lincoln - Fisherdwarf
    Sleepy - Miner
    Happy - Miner
    Doc - miner

All whether or not they are currently doing the task or not. What this tells me is I managed to assign Abraham Lincoln to two tasks, both Fishing and Mining, and that there are no wells being built because I forgot to assign anyone to Architechture.

As it stands now I have to go through every single dwarf to see if I assigned anyone to do something, and it's quite tedious.
