Is there a method to creating suspended walls/floors? (as in do they collapse after a certain level of expansion or weight?)

Depends on what you mean by suspended. So long as it's attached to a solid wall/floor, it will stay there no matter what until that connection is severed.

So if i had a giant outdoor glass (lets say "goblin habitat") room built that the initial tile was connected starting from a single tile i could simply dig that one tile out and as a byproduct watch the whole thing collapse on the unfortunate siege outside? Bonus points for using it as a method to "offer" green glass to certain caravans that are normally quite picky?

Yea i guess i was a bit unclear, I'm trying to figure if i can change something like this without any problems.

"* PRINT_MODE is another init setting. It controls the method Dwarf Fortress uses to draw the screen.
 * More advanced methods allow DF to make more use of OpenGL features and therefore your graphics card. STANDARD is a good starting point.
 * More advanced methods may still have bugs. 2D is more likely to be reliable. "

I saw an older post on it http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=63667.msg1478550#msg1478550 I'm just looking for more recent information in a format that i can understand as to how it relates to (as in what i can expect from as far as FPS/stability wise) my personal game-play usage of such information.

I had actually read that page and set FPS to 30 earlier (as well as some of the other options) as i figured i probably wouldn't notice a difference between 30 and 50 anyway, i just don't understand certain bits of the information listed.


Simply put is there anything i can set that will prod DF to take advantage of my system to run the game better (that might not be an out of the box setting due to -incompatibility with/probability of exploding- older PC's) than it is already?

Is there any way to get more consistency in DF as far as FPS (editing the init file for example)? I made a mistake and did a 6x6 embark :P I've been fine now until i had a half hour haul at 37-50 FPS (which i understand probably isn't something to complain about) where about 150 dwarves started clearing out a huge stone load that i intend to turn into a stockpile (yea i guess this is a trash management issue as well)

If it affects what settings should be enabled for DF i have:
Nividia GeForce GT 430
12g ram
vista 64bit

My legendary engraver seems to have the blood loss status, how do i go about getting the chief medical officer to check him out? (i zoned out a 4 tile hospital in a small bedroom :S)

Edit: He's walking around and nobody has tried to rescue him or anything... So is it minor? He has moderate blood loss and i kinda panicked when i saw my engraver bleeding all over the place.

Ok so what's a safe way to explore further down? Build hatches and levers+mechanisms in advance? I know this is a bit greedy but i want to see magma (and get a smelter) this embark, or at least find some form of coal.... Since i might want to have an alternative to trading for coal/chopping wood and i don't trust my dwarf population to the critter caves. (i seem to be nesting in nothing but obsidian besides the occasional odd mineral/gem vein)

Well i started cutting a 3x3 path to where the wagon (well i was assuming i would see a wagon when i was cutting) always comes... I almost had it finished and out popped an elven caravan, The only thing i can figure is while i was cutting a path was that one of the bloody tree huggers went berserk (actually the camel did, the other pack animal and an elf went emo and the last started dancing in the moonlight naked to his goddess)  and an elven tantrum spiral proceeded to kill them all off... also there was a very ticked off one humped camel wandering around trying to eat my dwarves.

There's going to be a siege isn't there?

Ok so can someone explain the embark options provided in this pack? I've been unable to find information on them. Mayday-Custom comes without an anvil for one thing. The embark profiles are frequently mentioned but not as to the contents and theme/usage.
