DF Gameplay Questions / Windmill

Hi,
I have a basic question regarding windmills. I have built my first windmill ever so I may have made some stupid mistake. I have built it somewhere above ground and outside, but it generates 0 energy and is shown as "Inactive" I have even tried to build (out of 8 walls) 1x1 "room" outside with gear assembly in it, and on top of this room I have built another windmill with same energy with the same result (just requiring 5 energy for the gear assembly). Is there anything I may be doing wrong or is it just that there is no wind and I can not make windmills work in my map at all?

Try the Clothier's shop.  The wiki's not complete for this yet, but if your civilization can make those, and if they're clothes, then they should be available as a job in the Clothier's shop.
I looked there, but it couldn't be made in Clothier's shop...

How many and which clothing choose dwarves to wear, if they would have enough of all clothing?

We're still learning the new clothing system, but as far as I can tell, dwarves will wear one of everything if given the chance.  Except for socks, shoes, mittens and gloves -- they wear two of those, barring any remaining "can't figure out how to wear socks and shoes at the same time" bugs.

BTW, another one about clothing:
At wiki (http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Armor#Lower_Body) I read about "baries" and it isn't marked as foregin, but I couldn't find out where such thing is made (even through job manager). Is it wrong at wiki or I'm blind?

the cursor is the yellow X you can move around with the arrow keys while using the look function, or any other that activates the cursor
I thought it, I tried it, but it seems it doesn't work. To be more specific: Firstly I tried it with command "changelayer" and it really didn't change layer under cursor (and still don't). Now I tried it for other commands and it seems work right so far.

I'm starting to use DFH. I have a little beginners problem: Many commads affect something "under cursor". What does it meand "cursor" here, how I choose where it is?

Ah, I understand.

When you run dfhack it should print in the console first thing:
Code: [Select]
DFHack is ready. Have a nice day!
Type in '?' or 'help' for general help, 'ls' to see all commands.
[DFHack]#

If you don't see that, Something is Wrong TM  I guess I would try reinstalling at that point, making sure my versions match, df and dfhack.

OK, I'm idiot, I somehow missed latest version of DF. Now it seems worked.

I have a simly question: where I should write DFHacks commands (I have linux)? I tried it write commands to console where i ran dfhack but no respons. BTW when I tried to use dfhack-run it says:
Could not connect to localhost: 5000
Run the "dfhack" script.  "dfhack-run" from another window will interface with a running dfhack process.  So you can outout "prospect all" to a text file or something.

I have ran "dfhack" - and I have no idea, where I should wride DFH commands - when I write any command to console where I launched "dfhack" it has no response.
And when I launch "dfhack" and in another console I launch "dfhack-ran prospect all" it will write that about localhost...

I have another probelem here: In my fort is right now ghost of one farmer which, unfortunetely, has been smashed by bridge, so there is no body parts which can be burried. And when I want to engrave memorial of him, he is not in that list (I looked there about dozen times). How could I let him rest in peace?

I believe that one should enable bones only, one should enable corpses, and then you have to deselect one by one all non edible creatures, and one can have everything, but with the trick of the first two with 'take from pile' toward the third.
I will try it and hope it will works.

My question, is it possible to repack single bolt into stacks? If not, is a marksdwarf able to take 25 items made of a single bolt into his quiver, or he will never do that?
My marksdwarf has in his quiver right now:
*dingo bone bolts [5]*
-dingo bone bolts [5]-
-dingo bone bolts [5]-
-dingo bone bolts [5]-
*monitor lizard bone bolt*
*dingo bone bolt*
(+<<bismuth bronze bolt>>+)

so it seems fine for me so far.

OK, I have tried a lot of combinations, but no-one works perfectly.

So my problem: I have three refuse stockpile - one for unusable refuse (such as remains, teeth, foolish enemies corpses, etc.), one for usable refuse (such as bones, skulls, shell etc.) and one for butcherable corpses. What settings should have each stockpile?

Why is it a problem if the dwarves are sleeping there, btw? Unless, of course, you are getting dwarves injured like hotcakes and need all the beds free?
Well, it doesn't look good. And I have not much injured dwarves but hospital seems to by very popular and there is really not much bed for future patient and I guess it would be a problem if I would surge any dwarf and the nearby bed would be occupied.
