Thanks. I will keep that for future use. It's working now. See previous post I edited but didn't save until after you replied.

You can check what the TaSK is in the [j]ob menu.

I believe there is an issue with imported books/scrolls due to their artifact-like status.

Thanks. There are some books/scrolls in the pile, but there are other things as well. I wouldn't mind deleting everything at this point. Can DF hack do that?

Update: When the traders showed up in the fall and I started moving finished goods to the new depot. This must have triggered something because the dwarves started cleaning up the mess. I didn't assign the goods to be traded at the new depot. They started taking them directly to their proper locations.

DF Gameplay Questions / Solved: Depot Destroyed - Can't Interact with Items
« on: November 27, 2021, 01:01:06 am »
Hello All,

My depot was destroyed by a troll when there were still some trade good inside. The items are now all over the ground but I can't interact with them. A few of the items have the TSK marker but nobody comes to pick anything up. I've tried forbidding, un-forbidding and marking them for dump. Nothing seems to work. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

DF Gameplay Questions / Edit Solved: Dwarf can't move
« on: July 07, 2014, 10:47:46 pm »
Hey guys,

I suffered some minor losses in a goblin ambush. It just so happened that they killed my broker/manager/bookkeepers spouse. So of course he throws a fit and he is very unhappy.

Now he seams to be bugged. His task is drink but he wont move. He is stuck in place. He is going to die of thirst soon. I am currently deconstructing the road he is standing on. Any other ideas on how to get him to move again?

I have no burrows active and plenty of booze available.

Thanks

Solved: Deconstructing the road worked.

Oh wow. That's been a while. I found out about the game from an article in Electronic Gaming Monthly about 7 or 8 years ago. (anyone else remember that?)

I don't recall the game being too difficult to learn, but I did have to read up on a lot of things. I just did a forum search and I think my first post was a farming question.

I have been playing every release off and on since then. I just started back up again a couple weeks ago and was thrilled to see that the new release was right around the corner!

The bare ground is clay (I don't know if that matters). I guess I could use DFhack to regrow grass but I try not to cheat. Thanks for quick reply.

I have been raising cows and yaks. It has been years and the grass does not grow back. I keep having to move the pastures. What gives?

I like the isolation thing. Now I just have to figure out how to bring him up 100 z-levels to the surface through my main mine shaft. He gets very excited whenever he sees a squishy civilian, which is constantly.

Hmm. The kings chambers are only a few levels away. Maybe I will try for that first. This is going to be fun.

I have been playing this game for years and never ran into anything like this.  :P

Good talk guys. Thanks for the advice.

I don't like this news. I am in my 15th year with a king and everything. I have carved out an area 120 x 80 tiles and 4 levels deep. right above the magma sea. I am in the middle of building a multi-level constructed city with roads and buildings and plumbing. Complete with a spiral ramp to the surface.

Now I am tempted to use seige engines on the next group of traders that come in.

EDIT: Are siege engines safe to use on traders?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Rampage
« on: October 24, 2012, 11:11:22 pm »
Hi guys!

This is what happened... I have 2 sword dwarves in a squad. I ordered them to kill a trader that was running around my fort babbling because it was getting on my nerves. It was a very efficient kill. In 3 strokes he severed the spine, pierced his heart then smashed the trader’s brain with his pommel. Very satisfying! This generated a good feeling for me and the sword dwarf.

I turned my attention elsewhere for a while. When I checked my status later on I had lost 10 dwarves. I looked back at the area and there was blood everywhere. The sword dwarf never stopped killing. Once he got a taste of dwarf blood he couldn't stop. He was killing every civilian he could catch. I wasn't even getting "struck down" notifications.

I checked on him and he was "quite content" had "talked with a child", was "satisfied at work" and "took joy in the slaughter". He appears perfectly normal. Never mind that he killed my legendary carpenter and some legendary craft dwarves.

Had anyone else run into this? I am working on a mega project and don't have time for this.

Thanks

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Vampire in my fortress
« on: February 21, 2012, 10:20:15 pm »
I am sure this is going to be a repeat post, but here it goes anyway... BTW this is my first fortress in the new release.

Nish the child has been found drained of blood! I have a vampire on the loose somewhere in my fortress. I am sooo excited I got chills. I tried to get my wife to look but she didn't care.

I looked at the justice screen and found out that I could convict someone for the crime. I accidently convicted my legendary miner. Oh well. can't stay and chat, back to the game now.

Building huge above ground castles can be fun. Use the -b- -C- menu. Don't forget that you can resize the construction with u, m, h, and k. Construct solid gold rooms for your favorite dwarves.

I once built a castle with 2000 stone blocks, one block at a time because I didn't realize that the tiles could be sized before they are placed... :-X

But like many of these guys said the real FUN is underground. Keep building your military and keep digging.

That does sound like fun. But I think doing something like that is what got me into this mess in the first place. I was testing some of the apps in the lazy noob pack and I may have accidently deleted a couple civs... :-[
