You could place him in a tiny room accessed only by a locked door (and a trap on the way, just in case) that has a fortification facing your archery practice room\barracks\whatever. Strip him of anything but his shield and you marksdwarves will get plenty of experience without the "practice target" dying.

I would like to say I have only used a 3rd person program once in my DF lifetime.

And it wasn't even an in-fortress app, just prospector.

No need to confess, even the most hardcore 3d party users aren't going to hell, at least not becasue of that.

No no no, that's a sure way to waste all your ammo on very secondary targets.
I think you should find a use for them, like walling off an area of the river and releasing your goblin prisoners there, and thus having a fun and original way of disposing of them. If you're lucky, the gobo's might take some carps out, too.

Let's see... Does it say your depot requires "Architecture" or something like that? If it does, then it enable it on one of your dwarves, he'll take the stone to the depot and you'll then see it constructed be your mason. That job, by the way, is reuired for bunch of other stuff (like forges and wells) so you'll probably want it enabled with your mason. Otherwise, just cancel all jobs on your architect's [p]references, and he'll have no choice but to design and construct the depot, as long as he isn't eating, sleeping and such.
As for speeding up the game: enter hardisk:DFfile\data\init and then enter the init text file. You'll find all sorts of perimeters to mess with that can't be called cheating, so increase the FPS cap. Once lots of dwarves arrive your computer will slow down, so you could also turn temperture and weather off. You can read more about that in the wiki.

And kittencuddler, that's kababs, or kebabs if you insist on writing it wrong yet in an acceptable manner.

If you tell me how to scroll all the way down without my fingers beginning to hurt, I'm sure I'll find something.

This is just incredible. Even the most powerful (and lucky) megabeasts don't survive that long with so many epic victories. Would you mind counting his death toll for us? Oh, and did he devour every man he'd slain? That might explain his power.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Terraniums, their contents and Magma

Why not throw an iron cage into a magma pond you create? Your dwarves will tale the goblins tales of the horrific "Cage of Fire" and you would have endless entertainment.

Only a value bonus. Not that you should care, adamantine items have a bonus of 500% to their basic attack and defence values. Even a puny peasant could wipe out an entire goblin siege with a full adamntine suit, not to mention the dwarf Impending Doom will probably honor with it.

Nha, it will be a marble shoe.

I've hit such a cave in my game, too. I'd read on the wiki you gotta start on a mountain tile to get adamantine, and knowing you need magma to process it, I pikced a promising position with a volcano, a brook and lots of trees. Apperantly, volcanoes also have a tendancy to povide scenery, and I got it alright; a cave filled with giant moles, naked mole dogs as well as some other critters and iron men in small amounts, all dominated by a mighty a dragon that flashes on the unit screen. I hope that sometime in the future I'll be able to deal with those and aquire the statues from the iron men.

Like someone here has suggested, you should try to make a profit out of the situation. You could flood the underground metropolis with water, wait for the residents to drown, and then find a solution for the titan. This should result with quite a bunch of masterpiece iron statues, and then you could place the hoary marmot body near the entrance to your fort and show your strength to all.  ;)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goblin Forts
« on: October 23, 2007, 02:28:00 pm »
There are only three forts near you that are actually probable to attack you if distance and terrain count. two are completely cut off from the rest of the world by mountains, the rest are a very long distance from you(again, because of mountains).

Of course a person can be chaotic and good at the same time. You people should play mre D&D. Ever heard about Robinhood? He's a good example of a chaos-good guy.

Eh, you saw my previous post I understand. I've seen your design includes a generator in it, which would make all that possible, though I don't think it would be small enough to be held. Mounting it on an aircraft is different thing, however.
