One swordmaster still stands guard there: Fanu Guardrules, the Zeal of Miles. So far, he has slain... let's see... 27 of my characters with his iron twohanded sword. He moves very, very quickly, deflects arrows in midflight, and has a lethal attack.
He also has a pike lodged in his left hand. I'll get him eventually...</STRONG>

Have you tried throwing mud at him?
How about a Monarch butterfly?

Or, you know, gif, since the game only has about 16 colors.

HOW?! I MUST KNOW!

Oh, it seems you just have to swap the values under dragon in under the entry for dwarf in raw\objects\creatures_standard.txt.

Regardless, a stack of platinum coins should be worth far more than a stack of copper coins. In any situation.

Also, just because it's a problem you don't care about doesn't mean it's not a problem.

...idiot.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Lost masterpiece unhappiness

I suspect that being in prison causes negation of all non-prison related unhappiness, at least for the duration.

Since your dwarf was ecstatic aside from the art efacement, being thrown in the clink would return her to that mood.

Try updating your video card drivers. As I recall, dwarf fortress actually uses opengl to display, so if your video card has any issues that way, weird stuff could happen.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Dwarves ignore their own skills when picking jobs

I was pointing out that he never said it does that. He said it would be nice for the player if it did, but he didn't know if it does.

IE, what's going on with you doesn't contradict Sporky's statement, just verifies which possibility.

(Mostly, this means that the "no" part of your reply makes no sense unless you misread the post, which is why I was trying to clarify

It seems that there are a number of jobs that require two hands.

Artifact makers always carry there artifacts in one hand, and thus cannot perform many tasks (building a road, building a farm plot, etc...)

At least, that's my guess

The metalsmith shows up with a pet, a (peasant) friend, or a (peasant) spouse.

There's the answer.

That would be an EXCELLENT implementation of haunting, by the way. It would be especially good if bleeding wells result from dwarves that were drowned by floodgate "accidents", as it would give some reason for people to avoid drowning immigrants/nobles. (And a reason for other, more sinister people to keep on doing, of course.)</STRONG>

This is why I wasn't sure if the ichor was a bug or not. It would be great if there were unknown forces which could make wells leak ichor, so I was hoping it was maybe actually a feature.

Nothing has come out of the well, and I have not encountered any ichor bearing creatures.

And when I say the dwarves aren't cleaning it up, I mean that there have been no "clean blood" or "clean ichor" orders whatsoever since it showed up.

The meeting hall defined from my first well is gradually filliing up with blood and ichor. (screenshot)

Now, I'm not sure if that is a bug in and of itself, (although I don't know where the ichor came from unless wells are actually supposed to bleed) but none of my dwarves are cleaning the blood and ichor up.

I just got this with a mason. taken by a fey mood, picks up two stones, begins work, never finishes, goes insane.
Now stones don't degrade so it's obviously not that.
It seems like he actually started construction before gathering all the required materials.
