DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: So what happens when a merchant dies?

Well that kind of sucks then. At least I won't get sieged, but hopefully I won't need to trade much in this fortress. At least I've got flux stone, so maybe I'll be okay.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / So what happens when a merchant dies?
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:00:18 pm »
So I'm back into Dwarf Fortress after a year-long hiatus. Anyways, I just got my first caravan, and at first for some reason it said the Trade Depot was inaccessible but the caravan got there fine anyways. The caravan stayed there for a normal amount of time, and started heading back. It was just about to leave the map when the merchant randomly went berserk and started attacking the guards, who just killed him and left. The interesting part is that everything from the caravan has been left on the map, and my dwarfs are happily taking everything into their stockpile.

So is that supposed to happen? When the merchant dies through some reason other than me, is everyone supposed to just leave and I get to keep all of the goods? Because that would be pretty great.

Did you end up killing them?

Actually, that could work. Then I could have the best of both worlds.

The Genesis mod was actually what made me want an adventure mode mod. It all looks really cool, but it changes the Fortress mode too much. I'll look into that Wanderer's Friend though, thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, I was thinking of something along the line of adding crafting, and I'd be okay with just tweaking combat I guess, even though it would affect Fortress mode.

So, are there any mods that only affect Adventure mode? I don't want to change Fortress mode, because I'm happy with it the way it is, but are there any mods to enhance the Adventure mode? Is it even possible?

I feel compelled to make some lovecraftian creature raws.....

Maybe after the new release hits.... mermaids? Pshaw. Those meddlesome dwarves won't know what hit them when the amphibious deep-ones, and shoggoth show up!

I'm in the middle of reading At the Mountains of Madness, so that would be pretty neat.

Yup. Have you never seen a dwarf get caught in crossfire?

Not while flying through the air.

The only suitably epic one-shot I can recall happened ages and ages ago.

In the middle of a siege, I dropped my drawbridge to stop the constant stream of pathing complaints issued by my dwarves. I had accidentally set the lever to repeat, and a dwarf was sent flying when the drawbridge raised shortly afterwards, launching him directly into the path of an unfortunate arrow. He took a shot to the throat and the rest is history.

Holy cow, that is amazing. I didn't even think that was possible.

Urist McChucknorris, who crawled out of my hospital with his legs dangling behind him to beat an undead dragon to death with his bare hands.

Holy cow, you actually managed to sit through 4000 years of world gen?

Seriously though, that's pretty neat. I'm sure there's some way that you could utilize them against a goblin siege.

I don't remember any of my dwarves at all. To me they're just a position and a skill set.

That right there pretty much sums up this community.
