Mod Releases / Re: New Age Vilous Mod 1.4 - Updated for 43.01

I just noticed a typo. When checking an Agudner the part of the description that mention that their history is mired in mystery calls them Agunders.

Below -80 for an embark temperature is fun.  You get no wild animals, no trade, no liaisons, etc.

It forces you down to the caverns for wood and water, at least, and frame rates are typically quite high.
My current evil glacier site is -110 C and I still get caravans and diplomats. Granted, they're from my own civ so it may not be what you're talking about.

It's still the most challenging embark so far. It has mist that makes a dwarf bleed out in 6 frames and it's cold enough to destroy any non-metal item on the surface in a minute and make even the blizzard men die from frostbite in two minutes.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: I badly draw your reports!
« on: September 30, 2012, 06:55:56 pm »

the second line in this report is the most mysterious thing I've ever seen. It's how I'd imagine an attack from giygas would show up in the combat reports.

Or if this one isn't bizarre enough there's the one where a dwarf removed a floor tile over my well of immortality (a well with a vampire impaled by a upright spear trap at the bottom), fell onto the spear trap and somehow AVOIDED being impaled by all the spears Then got up and walked away.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Vampires not respecting burrows?
« on: February 26, 2012, 11:32:52 am »
When I try to assign them to burrows they just stand still until I undo it, putting them in squads and ordering them somewhere works thought.
Also, since vampires will never starve or thirst to death AFAIK and if atom smashing creates a ghost problem you could do what I do to them which is drop a cave-in on them which kills them outright and leaves a copse to handle.

A titan made out of vomit punched a landmine which led to him losing his wings, all of his himbs, his antennae and separated his lower and upper body.

On my first terrifying biome after the update everything was fine until my yak (that I didn't order but spawned with me anyways) died and reanimated almost instantly and killed successfully every single one of my seven dwarves even thought they were all hacking away at it with swords.

In evil regions where the dead spontaneously animate, is there enough delay between reanimations to toss the bodies into an atom smasher?
I had enough as people have pointed out the reanimation time is random, I set my military to stay on the path that the dumpers will take so that they can kill whatever when it reanimates and then quickly select the part for dumping again all the way to the atom smasher.

the way I dealt with the multitude of hands, fingers, mutilated corpses and other equally retarded zombie parts that kept scaring was to kill them and then immediately carry them off and atom smashing them.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Equipping the military

I usually create a uniform using the best armour that I can create and make the name a snappy reference to the metal the equipment is made out of and then danger room them until they don't suck anymore (I don't max them out thought, that's boring too) and then create bottlenecks that I post them at when needed.

My last fortress had 93 children/babies in it and 160 adults, it was horrible (my FPS was fine thought).
An hour or so before I decided to set that fortress aside for a while there was a cave-in at one of my projects that crushed 10 dwarves which had me worried for a second, but they turned out to be babies and children and I was relieved. Only in dwarf fortress...

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Curious structure
« on: February 08, 2012, 01:07:34 pm »
Before I dug around the wall my other dig team discovered a lava lake that apparently gave me sightline into the carnicval staging ground but I never checked inside of it. I only discovered that I could see into it when I opened the units menu to kill a zombie milkfish that had been keeping all of my carpenters from chopping down the trees and saw a massive amount of undead creatures and some clowns which led me to believe that Armageddon was around the corner but luckily they were all inside of the structure and not marching towards my gates.

I'm scared.

In my desperate search for candy I uncovered a naturally occurring smoothed wall and I got the message that I've uncovered a curious underground structure, is digging through this wall safe or fun?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Traps/Some more questions
« on: February 06, 2012, 11:01:29 am »
1) As everyone's told you, stone fall traps are pretty bad, use weapon traps with 2 or so weapons made out of low grade metals like copper, this can maim and even kill creatures like goblins quite easily and it's cheap to build.

2) No regular trap requires a pressure plate to activate IIRC.

3) I draft anyone who isn't highly skilled in a useful profession and isn't already in a squad

4) use channel (h) to create a trench and then go down a z-level and use remove up stairs/rap (z) to remove the path in and out of the trench, repeat for as many z-levels as you wish.

5) Elves are really pissy about wooden products, no matter what quality it is.

6) Creatures will sometimes attempt to dodge hits by moving to a tile adjacent to the current one, if the tile they move to has nothing on which to stand they will fall down.

Build the highest tower in dwarven history and at the top of the tower place a mass of gold that can be dropped at will. If anyone defies you, have the gods themselves send down the punishment.

If you don't do it, post a copy of the world file so I can.

or your hammerdwarf squad leader not care about the silver warhammer he has and instead generate a 24 page battle report of him punching a troll untill in passes out from fatigue and then crush its head with the hammer.

I'm playing 31.25.

And yeah, it went just fine. He didn't even upset the overly large amount of children that my fortress consist of.
