DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: I found my very own vampire!

I usually wall mine in and make them mayor and manager etc. Walled in nobles' demands and mandates can be casually ignored and in case of manager, they will work fast since they won't have to stroll to their office if they live in it. Also grants your fortress immortality, when fun comes, next migrants will take over the fort

Dear Urist McWeretapir

I understand that you have broken your fingers, but would you PLEASE move to a hospital room instead of lying there so I can wall you in already, before you cause any more damage?

Dear Urist McEngraver

I appreciate your mastery and skill and the fact that you can make all the 1x4 bedrooms give excellent thoughts. But why are you only engraving events of a certain dragon, who happens to be called Elthar Flickergold, The Wealthy Flames of Warmth killing various creatures including humas, elves and dwarves? You are making me and the residents concerned.

This is perfect for my new baby powered happiness booster!

This (found at the Academy of Science) is pretty dang efficient. You might want to consider the highly effective new dwarven childcare or even training them in useful skills as adults instead, though, unless you expect your fortress to fall soon.
Wow, this is brilliant!

Also another reason, why DF is as awesome, as it is.

All my forts get a floor with one of each kind of workshop, in case of moods and when I want to create something, once that's done, j-m-q all the jobs is not that difficult. just buy and slaughter some fatter animals from the next caravan. 10 units of soap last a long time.

Oh and soap is an extremely useful thing to have around.

No, it doesnt. Some things like giving birth and making artifacts give 1000 happiness or something along those lines but tragedy "only" reduces it by 50 (in the case a baby).

Correct, on childbirth, the mother gains +1000 and the father +500, on baby death it gets reduced by 50 for both, yielding +950 and +450 net. gain.

My friend commented on this idea with "it's like nuclear power, very efficient, but waste is hard to dispose of"

Another Idea would be, provided gobbos as neighbours, to burrow them outside and wait for the pedophiles to dispose of the waste.

So I want to exploit the happiness gains when giving birth to get a net gain of 950 and 450 for mothers and fathers respectively, but what would be the most convenient way to get rid of the product? Magma and atomsmashing requires hassling with slabs, drowning chambers are slow, I was thinking of danger rooms with real weapons. Suggestions?

That's a gneiss artifact.

But infants are like parasites to the mother instead.
Aren't they in real life as well?

Dear Urist,

Bits of bones and animal bits are clogging the butcher chop. Also, vermin remains litter the food stockpile. Why won't you and your dorfy brethren pick them up? I've got refuse collecting turned on, and dwarves are set to gather refuse. And there are plenty of idlers who could be dealing with this! What is the problem?
Maybe the refuse stockpiles are full?

Does Urist McAxedwarf have misc. object user skill (used for bashing with shields) higher than axeman?  In arena testing I have found that dwarves favor using the weapon with which they are more skilled pretty heavily, so if this is the case you could have him train without a shield until his axeman skill is higher than his misc. object user skill.

I didn't specifically test shields (I found that they will use swords/axes etc instead of crossbows in melee combat if their sword/axe skill is higher than their hammer skill), so it may not be relevant in this case.  He may just be insane a dwarf.
That's interesting, I will look into it, when home

That, and the regular init are a great way of tweaking the game to your particular preferences. I suggest read all of the comments in there to see what each option does and what options you can change. Goes a long way

Nah, too lazy to dive into the raws, also it isn't FUN if I do it like that.
Not in raws, it's in d_init, which should be the first thing you open and edit after unpacking DF anyway.
