I think DF names are fine. They are amusing. The problem is that the game generates way too much names for insignificant stuff. How I'm supposed to remember that my civilization is called The tongs of doom if there are hundreds of other similarly named groups.

IMO the game should only name civilizations, sites, artifacts and notable groups. Other things should have generic names (it does some of this already, like the second battle of Steelbarrels, etc)

That was a great read, thanks. Sadly the final part is very weak. I don't know when were this written but for the prank to be possible the games industry would need to be very different of what it is or will be in the near future, so it completely broke my suspension of disbelief.

There is a missing option (neither). I don't really care about adventure mode, but of these the trader option is the most interesting, mostly because it hasn't been done before.

Aquifers are just boring IMO. I always give up to tedium when trying to punch trough them.

You can get DT from the repository but you should compile it yourself anyway, the one in the repo is often old and doesn't support the latest version, also I think not all features work. I have read that DF+DT work well under wine, so you can try that.

There is also an unofficial java launcher that reportedly work well under Linux, it will download the latest version and everything for you.

They are dwarves. That's what's wrong with them.

Usually I throw a tantrum, rage quit and then delete the save so I can't even consider replay the thing.

I have never have a world without flux. Are you using advanced world gen? Try decreasing volcanism.

There are several things that do nothing, so I don't see how that would hurt. But is Toady releases stuff frequently the community can test these new features and report problems and give feedback earlier. This allows toady to tweak mechanics earlier and make them more fun/interesting before building stuff on top of them.

On the other hand a release after several months may make more financial sense (judging by the 0.34.01 release).

I did, but that doesn't mean we should be less sad that the bug fixing cycle is over.

The ones that says this is Toady's masterpiece and don't want other people to touch it gives a good idea that Toady is not likely to work in someone else's project.

^^^ huh??

I would had liked a few bug more bug fixing releases but I can't really complain much. Hopefully Toady will switch to a rapid release model so new features can be tested and fixed earlier. I don't play adventure mode so these changes don't interest me much but I hope they affect Fortress mode too so that we get more ways to interact with other entities (other than killing their endless siege waves).

There are known issues when using graphic tile sets and TrueType:Yes. It's quite high in the worst bugs poll so hopefully it will be fixed soon.

If you embark on a site with iron and then abandon, will your civ has access to iron now?

Medium or smaller regions. No oceans. Rain/drainage set to whatever I want to accomplish. No evil/good areas. Five starting civilizations (don't see the point of having more). 100 years of history. 800 mineral scarcity.

My embark is whenever there is some soil and multiple metals. I like deserts and forests and there are usually a stream or brook.

I always start with one or two miners, a mason, a planter/gatherer and a carpenter/woodcutter. The rest depend on the situation.
