DF General Discussion / Any Intel Broadwell users around ?
« on: July 08, 2015, 12:00:55 pm »
I'd really like to know if there's a significant jump in fps due to Broadwells eDRAM.

Since DF relies on RAM and CPU caches so much, a 128mb L4 cache should prove to be quite a boost in terms of performance.
Maybe its worth upgrading again :p

ooh, funny thing tho.
after seeing cavern flavor in one of the screenshots i always disable it tho its given me an error message since a few versions (i think)
the error message from the settings gui:

Failed to save option!

Invalid/missing tokens:
YESSTANDARTCAVERN[

BUT the option remains ticked anyway and everything of rendermax still works after that.

now when i exit the settings gui and start it up again, cavern flavor is then actually disabled and when i try to enable it again it gives me a similar same error message:

Failed to save option!

Invalid/missing tokens:
!NOCAVERNFLAVOR!
YESSTANDARTCAVERN[

clicking it after that without restarting the settings gui then just cycles between those 2 errors. well, hope that helps fixing this other bug

thanks for the help, rendermax is so awsum ^.^

things are starting to clear up:
rendermax works perfectly off of a clean df install  (do you say it like that?)
i usually delete reactions_orc and reactions_kobold because i dont play those modes but maybe its related
also, the world gen tab in this masterwork settings gui doesnt save settings so i have to put things in manually in the advanced world gen

ill look after the bug again tomorrow

Got an update on that bug.
I genned a new world to test rendermax in which it actually worked properly, i think.
Just building a brazier gives off light without having a fire started and the day-night transition was really slow and actually had an orange offset on dawn and dusk.

However, that was just a test world with a test embark so I genned another one anyway in which the console gave off an error and the day-night transition was really fast (every few seconds) and braziers stopped giving light. Errorcode is in attachment

nvm, i cant attach anything here it seems
anyway, the code looks like this:

rendermax.lua:25: Material not found
stack traceback:
            [C]: in function 'error'
            rendermax.lua:25: in function 'addMaterial'
            rendermax.lua:201: in main chunk

hope this helps >.< dont want to play without proper rendermax anymore

There is no light from the brazier, not just a little.
its 4.g, standard print with phoebus

oh, fireplaces dont work either.
trying to get statue of light from the embark and see if they work

6
Hello there!

I have this particular problem in which fireplaces and braziers dont give off light after i light a fire in there although the sun cycles and dwarfs emit light alright.
rendermax, standard and no true type fonts.

Any ideas ?

You aren't using the job manager ? How do you get around then :P ?

Meph, I am disappoint.
Isn't the problem obvious to you since you patched everything together ?
I have exactly the same problem and its indeed not the manager who has changed but the reactions he has to check are higher than ever, resulting in slowdown.
So here is what I did to alleviate the slow and sluggish manager:
Go to raw -> objects and move the reactions you dont want or need somewhere else so the manager doesn't have to scan them when they are unrelated to your game, namely orc, kobold and adventurer (wanderer) reactions if you only play Dwarf Fortress.
There, still not fluid as vanilla but much more bearable.
I also took out 'cheat' and 'inventor' because I won't ever need or want these.
Running 3.4 Ghz Amd 1055t, maybe someone else can relate.

Now I can play again without being donked down whenever I want to get anything done by manager.

edit: You gotta gen a new world or delete those reaction.txt files out of your savegame

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Stutters on 6x6 embark and larger
« on: April 05, 2013, 08:10:49 pm »
well, that was some time ago..
anyway, my 1055t got as much, maybe a little bit more l2/l3 cache than most modern processors.
so i guess the whole cpu isnt suitable for this kind of problem
my i5 3210m can go to 6x7 without any of these issues until the late game.
im going to buy a haswell cpu in june (prolly 4570k or something) and comment on its performance on DF in general and that large embark hick ups issue.
until then, downwards!

The amount of times these threads pop up is disheartening. Running headfirst into a sword is death. It's not overpowered when it's meant to freaking kill you. They didn't exactly invent them to be blocked by a helmet and some cloth.

genius, didn't see it that way
i don't mind getting unqualified answers if their authors are not serious but you seem to be.
however, if you weren't serious, just put up some smileys

comparing anything from DF to the real world is just... i mean you can kill people by throwing your own blood o.O

please give me a link to the banning of those crossbows you speak of, especially if the ban is coming from a pope, the medieval equivalent to the lord of war... of holy warfare..or something
