DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: September 08, 2017, 01:20:50 am »
So as Manorsling moves on into its second year, the Elven trade caravan arrives, and I decide to trade them a couple of small cut gems for some extra booze and fruits.

I'm tempted to tear down the depot because I kinda want the bastards gone, and they have multiple somethings that I want but can't afford, like an alligator.

"Some migrants have arrived."

Okay, no big deal, I think I can handle it.

One immigrant, then two, then a couple children, then some pets, then a couple more children, then several more immigrants....

'u' reveals that the population of Manorsling has jumped from 13 to 40 dwarves, whilst 'z' tells me that I have but 62 drinks, 76 plant, and about 30ish eggs to feed all of them. I currently have a scant 9 beds, 13 each of tables and chairs in my dining room, one still, not nearly enough workshops to go around, and a very low-level metal "industry". It doesn't help that the only metalsmith I have right now is primarily a carpenter and craftsdwarf.

Naturally, some of the more useless dwarves, like the four fish cleaners I now have, are going to get drafted quickly, but I currently have practically no way of arming them effectively; I only managed to make leather armor with the idea of outfitting a small part-time militia of 5-6 dwarves, not an entire platoon.

Hells yeah. I've always wanted to play this mod, but I was saddened by the lack of activity from the author. I shall be sad no more.

However, considering I only just came back to DF a few weeks ago, jumping straight into Corrosion without even having set up major industries in my vanilla fort yet seems like it'd be a bad idea at best.

Anyways, I'm interested to see how it all ultimately turns out.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Goals of a Fortress
« on: August 20, 2017, 02:03:48 am »
As I've literally just started playing again after years of hiatus for various reasons, I currently have five three five major goals:

1) Don't fuck up (which naturally applies to the next four)
2) Get some basic survival workshops set up
3) Dig five three reservoirs and a simple plumbing system, for wells and watering holes/trenches
4) Set up a basic armorers industry--weaponsmiths, leatherworkers, bowyers and armorsmiths
5) Set up a Swiss militia-type service system for the population

Right now, 2 and 3 are my main priority projects, 4 will advance as I get more minerals and skilled workers, 5 will probably involve a lot of wiki-checking and improvising, and naturally number 1 takes precedence with any goals I have in the future. The water system will probably be the most interesting; while I have a brook at my site, I embarked in a Warm climate, so I'm probably not going to have freezing temperatures to seasonally stop water flow. This poses a problem since I want to install floodgates to control the amount of water flow into my fort myself. Oh well, we'll have to see what Armok has in store for me.

I currently have a semi-decent surface perimeter set up, and am working on building temporary above-ground lodgings until I can rework the confusion I've gotten myself into and figure out underground rooms for most of my stuff (my original plan is to work a hybrid fort, with some jobs and most military-related tasks on the surface, and everything else underground). Said confusion involves a tunnel I've dug getting in the way of a moat I started channeling, and a perimeter wall likely going to take on an abnormal shape.

On the flip side of things, a dormitory and underground farm have been set up, with an office well on the way, and ambitions to expanding the fortress underground being thrown about in my head.

Using carefully-aimed .50-caliber machine guns and flying low enough to avoid taking serious AA damage, I took out 6 landing craft and 3 patrol boats sent to attack Wake Island. I'd have to say the P-40 is my favorite American fighter so far.

One person should shoot lefty to cover the right wall. If our laser rifles have full-auto (or whatever equivalent), now might be a good time to switch to that.

Keep headed Northwards. Stay alert, keep guns at ready positions. We don't know what might be down here.

The Hospital server seems to have a sort of Bandit-ville along the highway at the base of Pik Kozlova. Trying to drive around it (even/especially in a HMMWV) does little to improve one's chances of survival.

After being booted off for a restart while running away in a truck from some asshat, I logged on and apparently materialized right in front of another player in the middle of Elektro.

The game had just started. Our starting area wound up being pelted with enemy rifle fire. My buddies suppress the other team enough for me to move into a spot of cover about 10 feet away. I switched hands to shoot lefty, and after two shots my rifle locked up. As I was taking enemy fire with a jammed gun in my hands, I was predictably pissed off. I decide, "Fuck this shit," whip out my sidearm, started taking potshots with that, and heard someone shout "HIT" after I had fired 3 or 4 shots.

And then someone else shot me. On the flip side, though, I still managed to take somebody out.

As I traveled to a camp to rid the local populace of the goblin menace, a wrestler decides to punch me in the throat, which then explodes into gore for whatever reason. I make a futile attempt to behead the sumbitch, but ultimately fail and bleed to death through my exploded throat.

Mod Releases / Re: Dampe's Modern Weapons Mod (Coming Very Soon!)
« on: January 03, 2015, 08:53:55 pm »
To sum it up, this mod has a long way to go. However, progress is being made.
I might be able to help you get started on different classes of firearms (e.g. SMG, assault rifle, etc.). I'd need to figure out how your balancing system works, but dividing the work between other people would save you a massive headache from coding everything yourself.

Also, have you uploaded any files to DFFD for this mod? I'm interested to see how it looks so far.
