DF General Discussion / Re: Child... Cyclops?

Yeah, this happens sometimes. As an adventurer I once killed a Minotaur only to be choked to death by it's daughter. I guess I aked for it by killing Mommy.

And then shit like this happens. Dwarves and other races lose wars and battles even though they kill way more enemies. Makes no sense to me.

Don't invaders always win attacks by default in the current version? I assume passive civs like the dwarves are at a massive disadvantage under the placeholder version of world gen battle mechanics.

I thought Toady sorta-kinda changed that.

Personally, I went back to 0.34 for a while during DF2014. I'm having fun with the most recent patch, though, its quickly fixing itself ;)

I'm pretty sure I've seen worlds with both "the sun moves around the world" and "the world moves around the sun" books in Legends mode. Maybe the disagreements are why the scholars keep brawling with each other?  ;D

5
I'm not sure. In 0.34 I've been attacked by cavern creatures (trolls, giant toads, troglodytes, hungry heads) when wandering the wilds near caves, though.

DF Gameplay Questions / Monster Hunters
« on: December 07, 2015, 03:13:43 pm »
I've been having a blast with these new visitors, but one thing which interests me is the idea of monster hunters. Having opened up the caverns I have promptly been attacked by an FB, and have walled off the cavern as a result. It would be fun to send adventurers down to clash with the beast. However, as of yet I haven't had any show up :( Is there anything specific I need to do to attract them?

Keep waiting. They're supposed to walk over to the barrels, grab a drink, walk back to you, then give it to you. >.>

Also...killed the law-giver for refusing to give tribute to The Anger of Balls. Then had to put one of the kids to "bed" again with a wristlock. Yeesh. Touchy little pests.

I've done about a dozen recitals and talked to other people, and for some reason everyone else left this time around except about two others, but the tavern keeper still doesn't do anything. She's holding something, but she isn't taking it anywhere. She just wanders around, or stands still. I'm kinda confused :p

This update is great. Only issue is that I can't figure out how to drink :/ The bartender says 'I will get it' or whatever, then they go away. When I talk to them again the conversation starts from scratch, except all they offer is a room. I apparently owe them money after asking for a drink, but even when I give them something they don't give me my foxtail beer :(

Can someone tell me what's up?

I don't know if there's a thread for this sort of thing, but I've had an odd issue with the force event plugin. Namely when I try to force a siege, I just get caravans instead. The same thing happens when I use the call siege plugin. Is the game just redirecting nearby caravans, and needs an available army nearby or something?

DF General Discussion / Mixed siege-dead and living beings.
« on: August 04, 2015, 11:06:08 am »
So my fort got a zombie siege recently. They were a collection of humans and elves, armed but unarmoured. However, amongst them was a living elf spearman. He acted like the others did, milling around on the map edge and accompanying them towards my outpost as they battled local wildlife and a yak bull which had been stranded outside. Then at some point they randomly killed him. He had no Night Creature tag, nor any reanimation powers, and as an elf shouldn't have been a viable candidate for necromancy anyway. He was also choked to death, which shouldn't be possible for a necromancer.

I'm not too sure what this is.

I have done some modding to my game: Instead of vanilla Necromancers and their ubber zombies, I took the necromancer in the example interactions folder, removed the skill buffs and pasted it into interactions_standard, before setting 'number of secrets' to 0 on advanced worldgen. This means I get zombies which you can actually fight without using legendary warriors in full steel, though as a downside towers spawn less commonly. I thought maybe I'd slipped up somewhere in the raws and the elf was a botched necromancer, but when I tested them in arena mode they behaved normally.

Any clue what's going on here?

I reckon they should be threats, just not ludicrous, broken, illogical threats. Meddling with Advanced worldgen and the interaction_standard folder works for me right now, but sometimes I go back to 0.34 to ensure sieges and battles and the undead there are okay.

DF Modding / Re: [MODDING] 0.40.x QUESTIONS THREAD
« on: April 26, 2015, 09:10:40 am »
Nope, I tried it once. Aside from the things that are proven to not work, the LAYER_LINKED stuff is so specific and restricted that it's easier to assume that whatever you're thinking won't work.

Ah, thanks. Disappointing but unsurprising, I guess.

EDIT: May as well ask this here; If I mod a naturally spawning creature to animate the dead like a necromancer does, will they appear in-game with undead servants they gathered in world-gen? Or will they be restricted to ones they raise during play? Obviously necromancers have their armies, but for all I know that has something to do with them being part of an entity (initially).

If I give sites to a layer-linked entity, will they actually form those sites in the caverns? I strongly suspect it'll fail, but stranger things have happened.

Some guys over on /tg/ made a setting with Dwarf Fortress lore mixed into it. Its a mixed bag, but you might find some of it useful.

Ah well. It was a long shot. Nevermind, I'm sure the world can handle immortal wizards.
