Curses / Re: Great RNG Names You've Gotten
« on: March 29, 2015, 01:19:51 pm »
Has anyone ever gotten an Ace Liberal Attorney named Phoenix Wright? Still waiting for that to someday happen.

"Phoenix" isn't in any of the random first name lists. So no.

writing the new ui may be done in such way that it'll be easy to port it to anything: like graphical ui or any other interface, or strictly stick to the ascii and don't plan anything in this area. I like ascii graphics in roguelikes and of course I'd start with it, but I'd like to code it in such way that would be easily portable.

One of the problems is that, on Windows, the console is limited strictly to a single codepage. This means that one can't use the rest of Unicode, as is with Linux and Mac OS consoles nowadays. Right now, there is a huge hack used specifically for Windows console support.

It would be a nice idea if an graphical (but still text-based) UI was available for Windows users.

Apparently, sleepers get interstate commerce violation when embezzling and hackers may get such a charge on a successful hack.

As per "more and less radical liberals", maybe there should be something like this:

After Congress passes enough liberal laws...

Ashley Doe thinks the LCS has done enough and decides to leave the squad.

A - Persuade him/her to stay in the squad.
B - Persuade him/her to postpone leaving for a few more months. (more likely to succeed, would give time for the leaving member to teach others his/her skills.)
C - Give him/her a thankful farewell. (Decreases possibility that the member would leak anything to law enforcement.)
D - Kill him/her for betraying the Liberal values. (Decreases the squad's Juice greatly, but eliminates possibility of a leak.)

Probably add the possibility of this member returning to the squad later (if the country becomes Conservative once again) or taking a skill-appropriate job and becoming a sleeper.

Curses / [Feature Idea] More complicated random events?
« on: October 04, 2013, 03:00:28 am »
I think the game should allow for more complicated random events to make the gameplay somewhat more varied.

For example: the squad hears/reads news about a liberal demonstration coming in two weeks. The squad has to influence the public opinion on the issues enough within these two weeks, so that enough people attend the demonstration, thus raising these (and other) issues even further, as well as their media importance and the public opinion on the LCS. (Or, otherwise, to disinterest the public in a conservative rally so that only a handful of people attend.)

CCS attack repelled

SEATTLE, WA -- A raid has gone horribly wrong today at the Hopkins Abortion Clinic. Six men, all armed with M16s, have entered the clinic this morning. As one of them pulled out a gun and pointed it at one of the clinic's employees, the clinic's security team was called in. The ensuing fight resulted in two of the attackers being shot and wounded, the other four escaping. No employees or clients were hurt in the process. The police later identified the attackers as members of the Conservative Crime Squad. (cont. on p. 7)

Looks like I've encountered a bug.

A liberal encounters a few hippies in the Seattle Vegan Co-Op, arranges meetings with them, then moves to Washington, DC -- without losing contact with them. Even more importantly, when they join the LCS, they move to the Homeless Shelter in DC.

Curses / Please delete (was: Failed to compile)
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:28:41 pm »
For some reason, I keep getting this error when compiling the latest SVN revisions:

Code: [Select]
██████@usr-laptop:~/Software/lcsgame$ make
make  all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/██████/Software/lcsgame'
Making all in src
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/██████/Software/lcsgame/src'
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `daily/news.cpp', needed by `crimesquad-news.o'.  Stop.

make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/██████/Software/lcsgame'
make: *** [all] Error 2
[/s]

My fault. I modified the configuration files a while before (to fix Makefiles, IIRC) and forgot that.

I'm all for being able to attack shops. Say, the heavily-armed and skilled LCS raids a pawn/gun shop, stealing everything in the process. It closes for a long time (~6 months or even a year), making it impossible for both the LCS and the CCS to get more guns and ammo (as well as sell loot). Thus attacking the CCS will become significantly easier, as they'll be unable to get better weapons.

Curses / Re: Conservative Logic

Feature proposal: when the LCS becomes successful (and commits enough violence), important conservative targets (such as the President and CEOs) and locations start protecting themselves harder.

After all, there's no reason for a CEO to use bodyguards and armor all the time, but when there's a powerful force that doesn't hesitate to remove Conservatives by direct means, it'd have sense to do so.

For example: the LCS commits enough violent crimes. All important buildings in the area (banks, police stations/court houses, media, power plants, intel offices, corp buildings, CEO houses, army bases, prisons...) become a bit better secured (somewhere between 0 and High Security), even those which weren't raided. The CEO hires some body guards, the rooms with important data/objects become constantly guarded, probably some buildings temporarily gaining a metal detector* -- stuff like that.

*I understand that this may be quite difficult to implement in code.

This reminds me of the removed "support for direct action" public view. This view set a limit on violent actions, beyond which even the most positive raids would count as rampages. The more people supported direct action, that is, the more the LCS could get away with.

For a real life example: In Russia, gun control is taken quite seriously. Even cold weapons are quite tightly controlled (certain types of knives are illegal to produce), while owning even non-lethal weapons requires a permit.

Curses / Re: Public Opinion Suggestion
« on: June 26, 2013, 12:07:51 pm »
I think, for that matter, the game should provide a better view of the Liberal and Conservative in-game parties.

Instead of just "n% support (current president)", the game should add two extra public opinion items: "n% support the Liberal Party" and "n% support the Conservative Party". The parties' positions wouldn't be "all Liberal" or "all Conservative", but relative towards the current laws and the public opinion.

For example, if the public suddenly starts supporting gay marriage (and the Conservative Party is lacking in support), the CP would start moving towards supporting it, too. On the other hand, if nobody supports a full ban on firearms, then even the Libs won't stand for it.

I kinda think the abilities currently presented with the shops could be expanded.

For example, say, a heavily armed squad (probably with weapons taken from the army base) enters a pawn/gun shop, causes trouble, thus making a point about gun control. As a drawback, the shop will close for a long time, and the squad will lose the ability to buy weapons AND pawn their loot. (Of course, the place would be full of conservatives, probably CCS members, too, and most of them will also be armed).

On the tropic of the lack of stat caps and the inevitable ensuing 21 charisma:

Someone with 21 Charisma would probably be able to run for President as an independent and still get a majority.
