Weeeird. Switched to 2D - still crashed. Switched to STANDARD - was finally able to embark. Then switched back to TWBT - now it works as well (including creating new worlds).

Have you tried another world?

Yes

Disabling TWBT?

No. I'll try when I get home.

I really think the lack of any comics aimed at girls/women in the USA (other than e.g. stuff for children) is one of the big issues.

I live very far from USA (in Eastern Europe) so really can't comment, but I like Vertigo comics, especially some old ones (Sandman, Lucifer, Transmetropolitan) and wouldn't classify them as directed at one gender or the other that much.

I wish I could read more nowadays. Like, 5 times more, as when I was a teenager. Anyway, right now I'm finishing Aickman's "The Wine-Dark Sea", which is a collection of weird fiction/horror short stories. Subtly awesome, like everything Aickman wrote.

For moondreamer, maybe Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Hellsing: Ultimate and Black Lagoon would be the the thing.

Actually watched FMA and it was good. Forgot about it  :) Wouldn't mind something similar.
Black Lagoon was decent, but I dropped it around the middle. Hellsing I watched the TV series, they were shit. Ultimate wasn't finished then, I believe.

Samurai Champloo was a pretty great show but plagued by a lot of boring parts. I'm glad I finished it though. I liked the ending a lot.

I felt like it had the style done right and it had really good characters (two main ones, obviously), but it lacked the actual story. What plot is in there seemed almost like a placeholder to me. As if they had a general idea, but never got around to actually polishing it.

Not in general, no (I'm replying to topic question).

But I do like Cowboy Bebop very much, it's one of my favourite series ever (TV, anime, cartoon, any).

I also watched Samurai Champloo from the same guy (sorry, don't feel like googling his name), but it was meh. Well, I also watched Bleach because I was bored at home for a week and there was a lot of it, and it started out okay, but I gave up in 200-something episode, because I couldn't take it anymore.

They were actually sitting in the branches just one z-level above surface, so they're fine. As to why this happened, I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that the moat was inescapable (they were supposed to dig the exit for themselves later). So my best guess is they felt like taking a break from channeling, freaked out (we're trapped!) and through stress discovered in themselves the dormant teleportation ability.
In other words, I think it had to do with the absence of normal pathing options. Never happened in 0.34, though, of that I'm sure.

Okay, so my miners were channeling a moat (down, down, down, then dig an exit tunnel to my fortress, then seal it off). and then both of them disappeared. I found them on the trees (two separate ones), about 10 tiles left and 5 tiles up from the moat they were digging. I chopped down the trees and they went for a drink but WTF.

I didn't even lose sight of them. One second they were down in the moat, then they were gone, then they were on the trees.

He just wanted to have a drink. Somewhere far away from those darned archery ranges. Maybe elves tied his parents to archery targets and made him watch.

I completed the game on Veteran few weeks ago. I'd say it's more difficult then EW overall, even though middle-game (after the first armor upgrade/before skulljacking the Codex and first Gatekeeper) was really easy, much easier then EW ever gets. Beginning is really tough, though, and then after Avatars, Gatekeepers and Sectopods start appearing, it's difficult again. And the last mission... just fuck the last mission.

I'm now on my 5th or 6th attempt into L:I. Managed to get 6 missions into it without getting a squad wiped out. Armor upgrade is so close, and then it's bliss!

I forgot how to worldgen  :-[ I distintctly remember that in the days of 0.34 a standard world with all default settings would result in normal age-changing. Nowadays, whaterever I do, I can't get the Age to change past the starting one on any standard or large world (and I like large worlds).

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Life after Therapist

I do my micromanaging in Excel. I want to minmax but using tools feels cheesy.

Yes I'm a masochist.

This, but depends on my mood. Sometimes I feel like spreadsheeting every bit of info, sometimes I'm too lazy and use Therapist instead.
