I am looking for a seed that has: reanimating glacier with iron ore, dead (or dying, preferably dead) but playable dwarven civ
generating a dead civ consistently seems to extremely hard.

So holy moly this script is insane, its A THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED LINES and im going through this with my jaw dropped and anyways; my idea is to eventually make another version of this where I implement a Ford-Fukerson algorithm to find the biggest amount of breedable dwarf pairs since you already have so much infrastructure for figuring out which dwarves are compatible. That thing where you click a dwarves gender and it opens a new window with all the potential mates - thats the holy grail right there bois!
Oh and also that part is a bit buggy if you zoom too much or use a bigger screen I suppose, the mouse click wont work on lower dwarves, like about lower 40% of the list. Anyways I was wondering if its okay to post that version somewhere crediting you ofc (incase I get it working at all) and well its not like many people care about this anyways, I presume most people just use migrants and kill children.

Im sorry for necroing in but I would like some help installing this, you say I should put a file named gui/... but you cannot put a / inside a filename so I get https://puu.sh/IYjkR/bce2eaddff.png What should that file be called?

Eh nevermind, 2 seconds after I used the power of myBrainTM and my first guess resulted in hitting the jackpot; gui/ is not part of the filename but the directory! The reason it was weird for me is because it wasnt in the filename of the first lua file; anyways everything works great very nice.

The "put impassable tile over the hole" used to not work for some time and idk if it was fixed because some creatures can move diagonally up/down. I Always block the flow with a bridge nowadays so idk but I remember a few years ago when I learnt that diagonal movement concept by losing my legendary weapon and armorsmith.

The new version stress "rebalance" is more buggy and messy than previous (44.09). Dwarves are impossible to bring down to low stress levels (you can make their dream come true, give them the best meals, bedrooms etc etc doesnt work) once they get stressed. If they are in the military they will soon stop caring about their friends dying (doesnt care about seeing a dwarf die) but they will be horrified and get PTSD from seeing a random crundle die. The tactic from the past where you wanted to get the "doesnt care about anything anymore" trait doesnt really work anymore as that seems random now (I like it this way actually). So sometimes they get ptsd sometimes not, but it seems that it is creature specific and checks whether they knew each other (was friends/family etc). Microing corpse haulers is a thing now. The problem is even if you get your "hardened" military to haul corpses, they still get ptsd from it, there seems to be no way to harden them anymore (speaking from my exp from a sinister reanimating embark a few years in). Also there is no "immediate" happines so once someone gets horrified they keep remembering and even if they craft an artifact or masterwork theyre not even happy for a week or a day, so theres no short term happines anymore, just short and long term stress, which sucks and is not realistic. Dwarves should be able to kinda "forget" about problems when they drink for instance, thats my 2p (look at this for instance https://puu.sh/Ah8V4/2d91eb6fa3.png ).

Essentially what happens now is there is no more "1 drop over the top" tantrum spirals where shit hits the fan and its all over; now it happens slower,  1 dwarf gets too stressed, goes melancholic or whatever terminal thing, dies, this tips someone else (or more) and this repeats and eventually most of your fort is dead (considering no migrants). Although it seems that dwarves that crafted artifacts still cant go terminal like in previous versions so theres that. TBH to this day I dont see what the whole stress change actually "changed" from the previous happiness system, or how it is better or whatever in any way shape or form. Think of this what you will.

It seems that either 2 things happen, 1: water freezes again when the dwarf is done creating an ice bucket that has to be dumped out or 2: the ice melts before the dwarf is done and the water glob falls to the ground and since ice is no more the dwarf cancels the job (perhaps higher pressing skill would help?) also 3: sometimes it works (rarely). I dont think its a reaction problem afaik, its just DF being DF, also obviously this is with temperature on.

But... I should warn you... the limits on the manager for ammo is broken so you will have to play it by ear to figure out what the maximum should be (Unlike thread, which is also broken -- you have to multiply the max by 33 -- the ratio does not seem to be consistent).
It's not broken. The manager checks the number of available items. That means it's counting the number of bolts that are not: In someone's inventory, tasked, in a tasked container, owned/assigned, inaccessible, or forbidden.

What that means is that the condition should be checking the max amount of non-binned bolts you want stockpiled in reserve (i.e., not equipped.) Bolts in bins won't be counted reliably (due to bin tasking,) so they might as well be nonexistent to the manager as it decides it needs to order some more. Yet worse, dwarves are very specific on bolt assignment. If multiple dwarves want bolts from the same bin, they'll each have to wait their turn as they spam "equipment mismatch". That's on top of the issue where they just forget the bin contents exist, regardless.

Dwarves require 25 bolts to refill their quiver. That means having 250 stockpiled bolts is enough for one full squad to reload simultaneously. You can get away with maybe 150 per squad if you can produce bolts quickly enough, which covers 60% of your marksdwarves reloading at the same time.

You may also want to produce training bolts. Quivers were changed to allow a full 25 training bolts on top of the combat bolts. Wood/bone bolts are easy to produce, and training isn't a high priority. 50 stockpiled wood/bone bolts per squad should be sufficient, since your dwarves are unlikely to use the range all at once. I find these bolts are also sufficient for hunting, so I add some extra bolts for hunters. It takes forever to kill stuff, but it's good training.

Melting ice to water bucket seems to be bugged or im doing something wrong but the water just goes on the floor as a glob and the bucket is still empty after the reaction. I suppose the ice melts on its own before the reaction is done, since it is hauled inside but then whats the point because if i do the reaction outside then the water will freeze in the bucket?

It's not the latest version so maybe youre using a newer DF hack?

idk but id really love golems and runecrafting to work (among other things), basically stuff from 31.25 i think  :'(
