DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your adventure?
« on: April 03, 2010, 02:19:10 am »
Killed all the ettins but in the process got lost in infinitely deep caverns. I really wish there weren't fungi blocking my way in all the 1-square passages. It's fun to explore, but dead ends after covering massive amounts of ground make you feel trapped. Then it's a bitch to find one's way back... cuuurse youuu, overgrown mushrooms!

After slaying a dragon his head exploded due to GLOBAL WARMING and try as he may to find the hidden entrance to its cave, the poor adventurer only wound up at the bottom of a murky pool. To starve. Success!

PKPhyre - that happened to me!

Climate in DF worlds seems pretty extreme. I'm always either in scorching or deathly cold environments. At the time it said my adventurer was melting and bleeding out his facial orifices, the temperature said "it's burning." The sun, beware its power! He may have blocked dragonfire... but youuu caaan't block the suuun.

I think it's funny.

Mong Mongbedo was probably my fifth adventurer made to break in and get familiar with a new generated world, and he lived up to his name. Nation Nationdistance furthered the divide between warring elves and humans in the southern regions of the map, only to meet his unlucky demise whilst shopping in Passround. Having just purchased fully exceptional iron equipment, he makes his way to the next shop to poke around. (ie, I hammer num9.) The first unexpected elf of the ambush gets butchered - it was my carelessness (or the elf's sneakiness?) that allowed the second to, previously unnoticed, fire a second arrow. Note that said assassin is now drowning in the pool with its entrails hanging out.

Mong had just recruited his first companions as well: a human woman with a crossbow, and a female elf wielding a greataxe. Both wore gruesome jewelry made of elf bone and leather. While Mongbedo bled to death in the rain, the crossbowman fired bolts at the now-wildly-vomiting guard, as the supposedly friendly elf approached our fallen adventurer.

If there were wound treatment in the game, she might have stopped the bleeding. As it is now, I like to think she set him up for the ambush, tipping off the two Raven of Hide assassins that their race's mortal enemy be may finally stopped.

It was a sad day for the Southern human resistance in Artuktar Kafek.

Hail Ben Houge, who should be given credit for the Arcanum soundtrack. I have listened to it a hundred billion times...

Nevermind. It seems this is a common issue. Oh well!

DF Gameplay Questions / Strange Mood on no-skills Peasant
« on: November 03, 2007, 05:24:00 am »
This season, my measly little first fortress got 22 immigrants at one time. There came a peasant calling himself Kivish Ashwhipped, good-for-nothing husband of the new immigrant cook. What the fuck, I already have two Kivishes. Anyway, this dwarf went into a peculiarly secretive strange mood... a month or two ago. I've frantically built every workshop I could find, but he's still just... sitting in the dining area.

I waited until he went berserk and killed him, but, unsatisfied, force-quit the recently-saved game. I have a backup of this save if the devs want to look at it...

This is my first 'strange mood' so I want it to work out. Either my fortress sucks... or it's a bug. What to do.

quote:
Designate the areas you want cleaned as meeting area's, they'll mill around the spot after a short while, and in my experience, clean away the blood faster than they trail it around the place.

I noticed this too. Someone was always eager to clean around the statue!

I like, went outside and mined a one-tile channel through the hillside. Then I built cheap gravel flooring. Is nice little shortcut!
