Gotta go with the pick. Picks through goblin skulls as easily as rock.

DF Bug Reports / Re: [0.31.01] Cows only give birth to bulls
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:44:32 am »
I can't confirm this. My fort in 0.31.01 has had two births, each of a single female calf.

I could be mistaken, but I think those are just leftovers from an old event that hasn't been in use for quite some time. No telling whether or not Toady may have re-implemented them, though...

I had a megabeast in one world, didn't grab a screenshot or anything, but it had over SEVEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED kills. Over 1050 years of worldgen. Someone was busy.

DF General Discussion / Re: Axolotls vs Olms
« on: August 30, 2009, 12:49:58 am »
This thread makes me happy. I has two axolotls, a golden one named Apollo,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And a black one named Axel,
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'd like to say they are friends but all they do is sit in opposite ends of the tank.
I feed them strips of liver (in the shape of a worm), live worms, baby guppies that are overpopulating our other fish tank, some times tadpoles and chunks of special axolotl food. The are quite vicious with the live food, swallowing it whole without even killing it first.

Guh? I didn't know you could keep 'em as pets!

...

Well, if you can have axolotls, then I want an olm!

It seems to be illegal D:

Really? I can't find anything about keeping axolotls as pets being illegal, in fact i've found several sites that tell you all you need to know about keeping them as pets.

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about that, either. In fact, they were actually a fad pet in Japan for a while, apparently.

I voted for axolotl, because Aztec names are awesome, and olms just creep me out. But with how endangered they are, the olm may win out in the end. :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: what causes created wealth to fall?

I'm pretty sure eating and drinking removes the worth of the food/drink from the fort. Could that be the culprit?

I vote for the Orcs and Goblins. The Orc military isn't completely finished and having some Nobles too would be nice. In other words, I vote for fleshing out the "main races". :)

I agree with this. Focus should be put on the main races, then orcs, since so many people seem to use them, then whatever else.

Be worried, Sparks. Mandrills come in waves, just like other, less insane animals. I lost like 5 dwarves to an abnormally large wave once. There were something like 12 or more mandrills. It was bad.
Be worried, Sparks. Mandrills come in waves,
Sparks. Mandrills
Spark Mandrill

Damn you, Mega Man X!
On a slightly more related note, yeah, mandrills are bad. Some of the most fun wildlife to have, though, especially early on. Pretty nice defense you've got planned, though. More than enough to deal with the monkeys, I'll bet.

DF Suggestions / Re: DF Eternal Suggestion Voting

Hmm. It seems to have counted my vote for 'Designate Safe Area' as three votes. Bug, perhaps?

And let's not forget how useful coloured rock is for colour-coding your levers.
Now that we have notes, that's a bit less important, but it does still make things easier.

Personally I like having lots of different colored rocks, to make murals with.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Playing As Another Civ...
« on: August 13, 2008, 05:08:59 am »
There is probably more than one human civilization and only one is at war with the elves. See if you can select any other human civs. If you already have, then I can't think of anything else.

Yeah, I checked that in the Legends before trying to embark, and made sure I had the right civ. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I made humans the controllable civ AFTER genning the world...

If you don't remove [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] from dwarves, you won't get trade from them, or so I've heard.

I have a related question that I didn't want to make a whole new thread about. I wanted to embark as humans, at war with the elves. When I found a world that had an active elf/human war, I switched the playable race over, and tried to embark as the warring human civ. But there was nothing to indicate that there was a war going on! No matter where I tried to embark, I had nothing but the typical red lines next to 'Goblins.'

Anyone got any idea if I've made a stupid oversight somewhere, or if this is a bug or something? I wanna kill elves.
