DF General Discussion / Re: Lazy Newb Pack [0.34.11] [V15] Updated GUI!
« on: October 03, 2012, 09:05:01 pm »
So the utilities listed under "Additional Utilities": Legends Viewer, Perfect World DF, Runesmith, Mouse Fortress, Fortress Overseer, IsoWorld.  Am I correct that these utilities are NOT included in the initial download of the lazy newb pack?  If so, what exactly is the reason they are listed on the page?  It seems disingenuous to me.  Maybe there should be a line of text somewhere letting us lazy newbs know that they will not have mouse fortress installed automatically?  (I point out Mouse Fortress specifically because have a mouse UI is a big deal to some people I've talked to)

DF General Discussion / Re: DF as a artificial life experiment
« on: August 26, 2008, 07:27:44 pm »
Nah I think you are a pretty cool guy.  I like the 'sims' like experience of when you have 70+ dwarfs with all their jobs set proper so you only need to check in on the game every 30 minutes to see if a siege or traders came.  Thats kind of like artificial life right?

When looking at the skill list press + on the keypad to scroll down.  (sorry if you already knew about this, just trying to help out not insult your intelligence  :P)

The party was a success.  Adil was the only dwarf that showed, but there were several dogs, 2 horses and a cow.  Great success.

DF Suggestions / Re: An Argument for a Graphical Update

I think what you are asking for is to change the standard tile set to something square.  I think that is a great idea.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Lets go to prison!
« on: August 25, 2008, 10:48:40 am »

I must be doing something wrong, but I still find it amusing that the they are organizing a party at the cage which should be in use as a prison.  I have a legendary dining room as a meeting place and a huge statue room, but they decide the party should be in the 3x1 room with an iron cage.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: My dwarves are such wimps

My dwarfs are such wimps that they made this engraving:

"The Deviant Pillars"
This is an image of a dwarf and purring maggots.  The dwarf is surrounded by the purring maggots.  The dwarf looks terrified.

Oh no save me from the adorable purring maggots!  I don't even have purring maggots in my fort (to my knowledge).

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: My dwarves are so hardcore

My dwarfs are so hardcore that they wear like 4 shirts, 3 pants, and 6 right gloves at the same time.

Thats hardcore, right guys?  Wearing lots of clothes at the same time is badass, right?

On the positive side, his right ear and left knee will probably get better after a little bed rest.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Seed 45 (65x65) - 38b - Pretty sweet seed

That does look like a good setup for a wargame.  Unfortunately, I'm 99% sure that map generation will be different once the war arc is finished, especially in terms of where towns and civs are placed.  The war arc includes putting epic war and battle events in the world generation, which will probably push civs around during generation.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The siege to end all sieges!
« on: November 08, 2007, 12:32:00 am »
I had something similar happen to me noggert.  Right after my secod wave of immigrants a goblin siege comes... but they don't move at all so I ignore them.  Then my stupid hunter chases a deer right into the army and gets killed so all my dwarfs want to 'borrow' his stuff.  So I need to keep everyone locked inside.  Two seasons later the goblins finally leave and BOOM its siege time.  I swear not even 10 seconds between them.  Maybe its because I didn't kill any goblins in the first siege?

Anyways I'm starting a new fort with siege turned off.  I prefer trading to the chance for action, but I'll probably turn it back on when I get better at DF.

Also, first post.
