disable it with "disable overlay" in the DFHack console

can i somehow automize that ?  maybe in some inifile . . .
I don't like the idea of having to do it on every gamestart.

because - I'd like to keep the starter pack for the graphics-setup and i also want to try the Adventurer's Journal tool.

something more simple that doesn't use TWBT.

could you name one from the starter pack ?
I'm a bit lost to find out which ones don't need it.

And which Print Mode should i use then ?

Thanks for all the advice - it will def help

I finally decided to give Adventurer Mode a try.

I am confused, which game versions have it at all - for example I read that it was disabled in 50.04.

So my question is - Which game version is the recommended one for the best Adventurer Mode experience ?

The PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack is the latest Pack apparently - and it's for 0.47.05

Is there a newer game version which has much better gameplay for AM ?
like mouse support - and does mouse support even make sense for AM ?

And if the answer is to use that starter pack - is there a guide to optimize it for AM ? like disabling all unneeded tools etc.

Thanks for your time

hotkeys - good idea, but since i don't always recognize interesting stuff by name (being a bit overwhelmed atm) I'd run out of hotkeys soon i fear.

DFHack - indeed - I now found the 'prospect'-command, which shows me the z-levels where stuff is found. thanks.

DF Gameplay Questions / Another Question (solved)
« on: October 13, 2018, 03:10:17 pm »
Being an (eternal) noob I stumble upon questions with which google does not help me with - I'll put them here:

1. (solved)
. . . How can I find a specific (block-)rock-type which I have already revealed somewhere ?
. . . . . e.g. - where was that gold-vein ?

2. (solved)
. . . Will Caravans be able to cross horizontal axles ?

thanks in advance . . .

DF Gameplay Questions / Item-Info ? (Solved)
« on: October 11, 2018, 10:57:59 am »
I installed the latest Starter Pack and have this question:

when I hit 'k' and browse the (embark)-map I get a list of objects to the right, which I can browse with '+' and '-'

but what then ? what commands are applicable when I have highlighted an object in this list ?

E.g. there is an ant-hill and I'd like to get some verbose information on it.

thank you for your time . . .

DF Suggestions / Re: UI still horrible ? off for another year

>make me feel privileged to have grown up in a time when computer games were keyboard-only

I had my first computer some 30 years ago - a VC 20 - i have played hundreds of games since - many without a mouse.
and i have spent much time with roguelike games, too.
there are many things in DF which cry for mouse-support - and a combination of keyboard and mouse would be progressing the playing a lot.

>I don't understand how the ui makes this game unplayable for some people

well, most menus differ by style, scheme, hotkeys, intuition and such. that's what i meant by 'consitency'.
i have a hard time to get anything done because i have to do a lot of thinking about how to do things in a given sutuation/setting.
when i get back to the game after a year i have to learn everything from scratch.

>you poor creature!  ask for a refund, you clearly deserve it.  how dare thins asshole, who makes this game for free to make us happy, not cater to your demand for a "better interface."

yikes - i do not demand anything. - i am glad that there is such a game like this at all. i just think that with some changes at the right spot it would be SO much better - freeing my head from climbing the mountain of how to beat the interface - and letting me concentrate on actually playing the game.

>I don't know how much you played the game before you gave up on it. Was it long enough to get a feel for the gameplay?

oh yes.

>Clockwork Empires, Maia

I will have a look at these - thank you.

>Dwarf Therapist

i think i tried that some years ago and couldn't get it to run - i'll try again

i think i will take another effort on DF very soon. it is just too interesting.
thank (most of) you for your answers.

DF Suggestions / UI still horrible ? off for another year

well - i really want to love DF.
i can live with ASCII-grafics.

i cannot, however, live with a horrible user interface.

unintuitive - unconsistent - almost no mouse support.

it isn't that difficult to redo the UI i would imagine - especially compared by the amount of work which is done to other parts of the game.

well - i think this is very sad and i will come back in a year to see if this got better.
