Awesome, yeah, DF Mon seems to be what I’m looking for, if a little out of date. Hope it works ok with latest versions. Thanks!

DF Gameplay Questions / dedicated notification windows

I’ve seen floating around in Dwarf Fortress screenshots, people playing with some sort of graphical mod where they’ve got certain things in the game divided into dedicated windows in their screen.

Like, one window shows all the announcements. Another shows combat logs. My keyword searches have failed me. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

An old version of the game used to do that to me all the time. One method that was sort of effective was to attack a stuck dwarf, calling off the attack when the first soldier gets somewhat close. It's tricky because you don't want the attack to actually occur but the solider needs to get close enough to scare the stuck dwarf into movement.

Ah nuts. You'd think I'd know this, but a basic question-- that essentially means I'd have to start a new fortress?

Thanks for the reply!

DF Gameplay Questions / library elements missing
« on: November 19, 2017, 07:30:23 am »
Greetings-- been playing DF for ages but been on a hiatus. Came back to check out "new" features like the tavern and library. Got Tavern and Temples up and running no problem. Established the zone for a library but none of the furniture or bookmaking elements are available for crafting. Bookcases, scrolls, etc. Am I going crazy? Found one bug report saying something similar (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=9206) so I re-downloaded the PyLNP 0.43.05-r10 in case my files went bad but no change. Here's my save file if that's helpful: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13196

(P.S. After a red dragon melted most of my residents I have her in a cage while I level up my animal trainer. Gonna be fun.)

Any ideas?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Pets go to war.

But in one fort I have giant badgers that I modded to be war-trainable. The pair of them follow my duchess around. She's a legendary lasher.

Huh. I'll have to figure out how to do that. I have a ka-billion badgers in my fort.

What I haven't figured out is how to mass-unforbid the ammo after the fact so that it can be melted down or what-have-you.

I usually "D">>"B" reclaiming from one corner of the map to the other.

Now if they'll only bring a male jaguar...

I'll have to ship you a few! Have a war jaguar assigned to every citizen.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Pets go to war.

I have a bit of an exotic pet obsession. I have tons of cage traps around and purchase any animal the elves have for sale. All those cage traps have also resulted in numerous goblin and troll prisoners. I collected all those invaders in one cage in a locked room (door & wall grate) and once it had gotten to 50 creatures, set up my archers a few Z levels above for some live target practice. A dwarf pulled the lever for the cage and they all came spilling out into a hail of bolts.

A few of those nasty creatures fell but I quickly learned a hard lesson about the token "buildingdestroyer" + trolls. Trolls and goblins were EVERYWHERE. My military were a few floors up and stuck among the panicked citizens fleeing for safety.

Suddenly, the dozens of pets that are usually idling in my meeting area came charging down the stairs. The Rattlesnakes bit and wrestled. The Black-Crested Gibbons scratched and whirled around Goblin Spearmen. My pair of Giant Monitor Lizards alone were visions of death as I watched them tear six Trolls apart by themselves. Not one animal was hurt and my tardy military finally arrived to finish off the job.

I had no idea. I've locked the Lizards up in a breeding room. I shall have more of them, please.

Anyone had an unusual, non-war-trained pet fight like that?

Only two kills?! Shame. First fortress in this world so he's from world gen. Thanks for the insight!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Migrant arrived injured

Never had that happen before. Poor guy arrived with no legs. Great military experience so must be an immigrating veteran of some distant war. Hope one of my busy dwarves stops to haul the guy in from the edge of the map.

Easiest solution. Have one of your melee squads target the trader. Right as the squad gets close, cancel the kill order. It'll chase off the trader, undoing the blockade. The trader will still like you.

To train my archers I've got a room of cages connected to an outside lever. I channeled out the ceiling, up a few Z levels. Activate a wall grate to close off the room, pull the lever, and the archers have their fun.

DF Bug Reports / Re: Migrants stuck on edge of map
« on: May 27, 2013, 04:07:28 pm »
I've often had this problem with traders coming in with migrant waves. They enter the screen and block the rest of the migrants from coming in. One solution I've found is to set a kill order on one of them and right when the squad gets close, cancel it. It usually chases off the stuck Dwarf and everyone starts coming in again.
