It's not too complicated, it just takes lots of thinking and design to get it to work with your fortress.
The problem I had was that I had to dig out my dining hall again so I had room for the showered entrance. Also, the floors above and below were crowded with stuff, so I had to consider my space efficiency.
But, basicaly, it goes something like this:
A 7 long hallway is placed, with doors every other tile (to keep in mist and water) and grates in between thes doors (to drain the water). Below, under all the grates, is a channel. This goes a bit past the end of the dining room wall.
On the dining room level, outside the walls, is a hole leading to the draining reservoir.A pump takes the water from there and puts it into a 2x2 room.
Above this is another pump that takes the water from there and puts it above the dining hall entrance, where a single holy above a grate lets water fall through.
You should get the idea. This was my first real water project, it just takes some trial and error, and a few controlled outside tests so you know how everything works.
How you power this stuff is up to you. I have 2 water wheels and 5 windmills, but you don't need NEARLY that much unless you need to have gear axles travel very far to get from your power source to your pumps. I still had 100 power units left over.
I made an emergency shut-off lever as well, just in case something happens.
Just experiment, and you shoudl figure it out.
