DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / I got a necromancer outside.
« on: July 27, 2014, 10:58:39 pm »
I just started a new fort using version 0.40.04 and I just got my 1st necromancer outside my fort. I'm not sure what to do about him. last I saw he and his zombies were just standing around where they spawned and at some point along the line they killed a werebeast that appeared out of nowhere. It took me a long time to get the way into my fort sealed with a draw bridge.

Will the necromancer go away or do I need to find a way to kill him?

the only fighting dwarfs I got are the two guys I started with that both have a level 2 sword fighting skill and level 5 dodging skill and no real armor to speak of.

I think the elf might die after a bit in a cage.

The only dwarf in my fort that wasn't killed off by my  loyalty cascade also turned out to be a vampire and is now sealed away in his room and I can't forget about him being there because my fort keeps getting him voted in for mayor.

If you want to get some FUN out of killing merchants, you need to slaughter the dwarven caravan (the soldiers who do the deed will be considered enemies of the rest of the civ - including everyone in your fort).

This my friends, is a loyalty cascade, and is the best way to make you punch your monitor screen from pure terror.

That is what made all my dwarfs at one point fight each other and made me need to break my way into my own fort with a new group who just happened to show up at that point in time.

What does it take to get elves and humans mad so mad at you that they would attack your fort? I have been killing off their traders and so far nothing has happened.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: 5 forgotten beasts in awe of a door

Looks like I got a reloadable cave in cannon aimed at the point FBs stop near that door. I'm now about to crush two more FBs, and after they are dead I plan to ready it to go again when more beasts appear.

I would like to have this 3rd party script that removes the bug that stops vampires from being slowed from lack of alchohol.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: What are your priorities on embark?
« on: May 01, 2014, 05:37:14 pm »
In the fort I got going now what I started off doing was digging down one Z layer and then dug about 100 tiles one way before making a turn and digging about 40 more tiles and at that point built my drawbridge and behind that bridge I made my workshops, farming, and military areas.

I dug down to the stone layers to build my sleeping, and dining areas.

The layer right below my workshops became my main stockpile and over time it really became huge. I think it covers about 2/4 or more of that z layer now. I just wish my dwarfs would make those bins faster.

Right after I had my basic areas dug out I dug down to the lava sea and found 2 Anamantine towers that were not hollow at all..

I started out with 2 dwarfs who were level 6 in swords and set them to training non stop right away. Right now I have 4 sword master dwarfs and one who is in training. My 5 dwarfs are now heavy armored with all anamantine armor and anamantine swords and together they have killed hundreds of goblins. One Goblin attack on my fort had about 67 goblins in all and they killed them all.

When I checked the combat logs for my sword masters I noticed that the goblins need to get luckly in order to land a hit and even then my dwarfs will often block the hit.

I think one of my main priorities at embark was to get lava so I wouldn't need to worry about having fuel to burn for making steel or anything, and finding anamantine at the same time as lava was just a nice bonus.

When I'm just starting I would dig a tunnel going somewhere before I start building my fortress underground  and to lock it down I would just add one drawbridge along my 3 wide tunnel. Don't need to build any walls. I only need to build one drawbridge and a lever and link them up and then I can lock down the fort anytime.

I would also make my fort able to keep going and not die off if I end up locking down for a long time, like when my 1st goblin army comes around. I just lock down and wait for them to go away.

The 6 forgotten beasts were killed by my cave in.

Edit: now I'm going to get ready so I can repeat it again later when more beasts show up at the door.

one of the things I did 1st was getting my starting workshop areas and farming areas built and after those I setup my dining hall and my sleeping area. After all that I dug my way down to the lava sea and in the fort I got now I got lucky because at the same time I found lava I also found two anamantine towers.

I think I had all this done within one or two years of gametime.

as far as dealing with the beasts go I think one thing I won't be doing is sending in my 5 sword master dwarfs.
I don't really want to risk my 5 sword master dwarfs who can fight off a army of 67 goblins without taking any dmg at all.

those 5 sword master dwarfs are all of my fighting forces.

I said werewolf that time because it is easy to remember how to spell it. My dwarf was another kind of were beast, but a real werewolf did appear once in my game. That werewolf didn't stay long and didn't attack anyone before he changed back and ran for it.

The werebeast that attacked my dwarf bit my dwarf and then slapped him with a sock countless times before running off the map.
