Dammit. And that's why I should be more careful in the future. I had assumed that my dwarf wasn't part of the Cabal, given that Grim was one of it's founding members and I picked a fight with him. Hmm... I'll go back and modify my entry so that my dwarf didn't realize what the mechanisms were for until now. RPing into the Cabal would work.

A lot has happened in the past year. Forgotten beasts have been slain, sieges have been fought off, dwarfs have died and been born. Artifacts have been created, weapons have been forged, and projects to eliminate any pesky nobles are currently in progress. Grimmash and the others don't think I know about the purpose of the rooms, but I do. They seem to think that after installing half the mechanisms I wouldn't get some idea of what they were for.  I may have no previous skill as a mechanic, but even with the limited experience I have I know that those rooms are death traps. It does not matter to me.  If they want to kill the king or whoever it's no skin off my neck. Unless I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time. But it's time I told Grim and the others what I know and my approval of their plans. Perhaps then I won't be kept in the dark.

I'll get in on this.

Diary of the True Prophet, entry 7
It appears I am not going as unnoticed as I would have hoped.  I talked to Asmoth, but he seemed noncommittal, unwilling to make an alliance just yet.  I waited around his chambers, and sure enough, an hour later Lenehan came down to talk to him.  Perhaps I will have to seek more allies.
But back to my first statement.  I found a dwarf I had never before seen eavesdropping outside of Asmoth's door.  The blessing of the gods allowed me to pass him unseen, but I must be more careful in the future.

Lenehan did not take my warnings to heart.  He has continued his ridiculous elf worship and arranged the deaths of Modi and Jackal, two former overseers and possible threats to his rule.  Modi was a secret ally of mine.  While she would not convert, and thus is doomed to eternal torment, her anger made her a useful tool against Lenehan.  Perhaps Lenehan knew this, and sent them to their deaths.  I will have to seek more allies against Lenehan, lest he attempt to find me.  Of all of the dwarfs in this fortress, the one I find most interesting is Asmoth.  His experiments speak of a mind twisted beyond recognition, one that will be easy prey for persuasion.  The fortress is also host to a vampire, one cursed by the false gods.  He, too, is likely to ally himself with me against Lenehan.

I have yet to determine Lenehan's true plans for this fortress.  He has been digging "ventilation shafts" that descend as far as the caverns.  I have watched the progress from the shadows but have yet to determine the true point behind these.  Perhaps, should they be extended, my lords could use them to escape from their prison...

I will find Asmoth in his laboratory, and there discuss the possibility of an alliance.  He is not one of my lord's liking, but his aid is a necessary evil if we are to defeat Lenehan.

Okay, OOC, DarkArtemis, care to exain how two of our dwarfs got injured? I think one of hem may have been my fault, actually. Was one of them a ranger?

9172
What is it with you and your forts. Whenever I say door there isn't one.

9173
I think that the caverns would be the most challenging and interesting.

The Diary of the True Prophet, entry 4
Today is a good day for the cause.  All but one of the puny elves who came to the fortress were slaughtered by the weakest servants of the cause, the goblins.  Perhaps Lenehan will rethink his opinions after this.

The Diary of the True Prophet, entry 5
Today is the day to speak with Lenehan.  He has been brooding in his office since the elves were killed, and knowing where he is is half the battle.

When I arrived at his chambers, the door was locked.  A problem for a mere dwarf, but not for a true believer.  With a simple touch, the lock sprang and granted me entrance.  He whirled around, surprised.

"Hello, Lenehan.  We have much to discuss."
"Who are you?  I've never seen you before."
I would have smiled had my mask permitted it, "Who I am is of no consequence, for I am merely a vessel.  A change is coming, Lenehan.  Will you change with it?"
"Wha...What do you mean?"
"Do you remember the night you took charge, Lenehan?  The dream you had."
Lenehan's face turned pale, "What about it?"
I chuckled, "A change is coming, Lenehan.  Perhaps you are not worthy of being saved."
With that, I stepped out and closed the door.

Lenehan stared at where the masked dwarf had last stood.  How did he know about the dream?  What did he mean, "worthy to be saved"?  Cautiously, he opened the door, only to find that the dwarf was gone, seemingly never to have existed.

Has a barracks been set up?

9176
Well hey, an artifact copper crossbow isn't so bad.  Also, a. how did the dwarfs get injured and b. what the hell is filling the cages?

9177
Well, unless I was reinlisted I'm not in the military either.  And thanks to Grimmash and Grim Portent for incorporating my antics into their stories.

Request to the next overseer:  Dwarf me as one of the dwarfs who has a non-dangerous profession, then, since highmax forgot.  And Highmax, it's fine, you were rushed.  Actually, it helps, because nobody has noticed him before now.

9179
I'll go for a turn at this.

Okay, what was I dwarfed as.  Also:

Diary of The True Prophet, Entry 2
I have arrived at the miserable fort the nonbelievers sent me to as "punishment".  What little they know.  Nobody noticed me as I entered the fort, all the better to enact my plans.  Nobody will know about me, nobody will know I am here.  That is, until the time is right.

Diary of The True Prophet, Entry 3
It is the new year.  I watched from the shadows as the "Warden" handed over leadership to the elf worshiper.  While I have no problem with elves, they are not the chosen people of the true gods.  It is us, the dwarves, who must inherit this world, over the corpses of all others.  It is as the true gods demand.

Finishing his writing, the masked dwarf laid the quill back in it's holder.  He knew what must be done.
Kneeling down, he placed both palms to the earth, feeling for the power of his gods.  It came as a rush, washing over and through him, into the fortress.  Instinctively, he knew what it meant: the gods were sending dreams to spur followers to action.  The next morning, every dwarf would wake up having had a glorious dream of all the things they had ever desired brought to fruition.  Bending the power in the way only a true worshiper could, he added these words to the end: "These things, and more, can be yours, if only you believe."
