Mandate that each and every one of them be adorned with rings of steel, and menacing spikes of soap.  Then drop them on himself.

WWUD if he realized he was an abstract piece of code?

I'm just jumping in to succession forts, as a player - so yeah, count me in.

I prefer Joyous/Terrifying overlaps, 'cause the only thing more fun than a fortress made of unicorn soap, is a fortress made of unicorn soap that's being attacked by undead elephants!

But hey, that's just me.  And yeah, like so many others, it was reading the tales of Boatmurdered that turned me from 'casually interested in this quirky game' to 'hardcore addict to this digital crack cocaine,' so I get what you're saying about the narratives/RPing being a major draw in these sorts of community games.

Let's do this!

Look up 'double slit method,' either here on the fora, or on the wiki.  Good luck.

If you can't breach it, don't worry - build a basic wood fort, and I'll get us through it when I take my turn.

Just be aware that building a hatch cover on an up/down staircase will block access from above, as well as from below.
No it doesn't - a floor hatch only blocks downward movement.

I just tested the following layout (side view):
Code: [Select]
_____>
_____X_____...
_____<
With a floor hatch placed on the "X" tile, dwarves were able to access all 3 floors from the right; upon locking it, only the bottom floor became inaccessible (while the middle and upper floors could still be reached).

I stand corrected, good sir/madam.

Imanoob.  Only been at it for about a year - barely long enough to get the basics down!  Basically, turned to DF because SimCity 5 was the suxxorz; haven't looked back since!

Nope Not Realy Except for NO texture pack ok? :D

I can't stand looking at the ASCII mess.  I know, I know, take away my Man Badge, but there it is.  However, I have no problem with re-converting the save to standard ASCII before uploading.  Of course, if anyone other than me is using the LNP launcher, it's easy to update the save to *any* tileset, and back.

Are we setting a population/child cap?  Turning on cave-ins and temperature (I vote YES to both); allowing invaders (YES again); or any other tweaks?

Fair warning: your sig is giving me ideas.  <evil chuckle>

But yeah, totally - I'll wait until we've all had a turn fighting gobbos and necros, before screwing with the fort itself.

So, no leaving the fort in a situation where everyone dies on hitting spacebar; no breaching HFS without containment; no pressure plates set to citizen activation to flood the whole fort with magma...  did I miss anything?

Forget dumping.  Minecart QSP is the way to go - speedy and efficient!

In the central-west part of the map, I see a tower near a gobbo camp.  With a tile in between - might be a neat spot.

That Looks Great.

PS.Any idea's on turn Length?

Traditionally, it's a couple days to acknowledge your turn and d/l the save, then about a week to play through a year and write up a report.

Now, onto other business - are we in this to collaborate on the fort, or just to mess with each others' heads?  I'm down, either way.

New fort.  No items, no skills, Sinister swamp.

Luckily, the repulsive slime rains don't seem to do anything worse than make dorfs a little bit upset.  Just had the first caravan come by - after selling a bunch of masterwork langur tallow roasts, and spiked wooden balls, I'm set for life.  Also, the map has LOADS of surface webs (phantom spider silk), and the preliminary dig has already struck flux.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the value on prepared meals is WAY too high?  I mean, seriously, hunt just a few critters, and you can buy the whole caravan...

Giver99, if you were to upload the region to DFFD, we could all take a gander at it, and figure out where we're going.

Try an image hosting site, like imageshack, imgur, or whatever other one you prefer.  Then just use the [ img ] [ /img ] (without the spaces) tags, with the url of the image in between, to post it here.

Floor grates are more like constructed floors, except that they allow liquids and gasses through.  You cannot link them to anything.

However, a hatch cover (can be built at a carpenter's, mason's, or metalsmith's) will do what you're looking for.  Just be aware that building a hatch cover on an up/down staircase will block access from above, as well as from below.
