It's one think taking infrequent baths and wearing very old clothes.  It's another wearing *underwear* you've taken from *enemies you've killed* that happen to be *goblins* and that are made of *troll fur*.  Yeh gods!

aaaanyway...

I never bothered dyeing the clothes I manufacture, is there a point besides increasing value?
Maybe troll fur is super soft...

Much like growing more than plump helmets on your farms, there isn't much point to dyeing clothes in itself, but I like to do it so I can imagine my dwarves wearing colorful clothes rather than being almost exclusively gray and brown (and the mental image of a cave adapted dwarf flipping out and vomiting all over himself because he just realized his shirt has been bright red this whole time)... also, when they eventually discard their old rotting clothes they can be sold for twice as much...

I haven't had war animal problems when I let them wander around, but the war dogs I put on sentry duty by pasturing them around the map don't seem to want anything to do with the beasties outside their pasture... It might be related...

Also, I've heard that bug can be worked around by sending smaller squads, for some reason having tons of soldiers makes them stop attacking things...

I assume the framerate drop is due to the "splatters" of leaves that trees drop every season, which can be removed with a DFhack command, and you should consider making an outdoor meeting area if cave adaptation is getting to be a real problem, but here's the wiki page to give more tips:

One of the most disturbing thing about DF so far is my dwarve's relish for second-hand troll fur loincloth taken from dead goblins.  That is just nasty...

These days it seems that all that I sell the caravans are old clothes and totems...
I'll not disagree, but just remember how often an average dwarf in a 'safe', non-evil line of work takes a bath.
Also, they don't consider clothes "bad" until the clothes are literally rotting off their dwarven bodies...

Well, to answer your first question: yes, pumps will continue to pump if they are given continuous power, so if you connect a windmill to a pump positioned over your fortress you could very well flood your fortress without requiring a dwarf pump operator...

You really don't even have to build the wall, just place traps around natural topography like trees and valleys where animals will likely walk while heading from one spot to another...

I think they get experience for climbing block walls, but not normal walls. You can also train them by making them fall and they'll get climbing skill as they try to grab the wall again, but you would need to set up a scary thing behind a window or something and then scare civvies as they climb to whatever bait you've put...

Don't forget you can assign dwarves to carry multiple weapons, so it might be worth giving a speardwarf a second or third spear if you have the metal...

Having a cloak has fixed the face wounding problem, unfortunately the sworddwarf already has a ruined ear which is infected (they were in the hospital for... reasons 0_0). Hopefully their healing will be fast enough that they won't die from the infection, but at least now if they do the next swordsdwarf won't get mutilated...

Race is arbitrary. We spent a good portion of the semester being taught that.

People in class thought that it was synonymous with heritage and culture, despite all three being different things.
Sociology intro is basically taking a chisel to a stone, trying to hit it with a hammer a few times, and then throwing the chisel aside in favor of smashing the rock.

Do you think the split between race is usefulin any capacity?
No, splitting the races doesn't seem to actually benefit anyone apart from not having to explain why the person next to you has a different skin color... But I've never understood racism or any sort of "One person is inherently better due to an arbitrary characteristic" beliefs...

Perhaps I misstated, I didn't mean to imply that polygamy increased rape, the way I understand it, rape is a natural result of sexual drive, obsession with domination and lack of self control (at least two of the three). Two of those are personal factors and one is biological (with current personality and emotion systems it would end up with overseers atomsmashing every migrant that had one or both personality traits if they wanted to play rape control). What you or I view as causing rape however is irrelevant, I certainly hope it is never put into the game, even if polygamy does become a DF reality.

I'm not sure what the stigma against homosexuals has ever been about, but I am fairly sure it has to do with prior gender roles being upended, which dwarves don't have. So personally, I don't think dwarves would have a problem with homosexuality or bisexuality (they just haven't been in the game until now), but marriage has always been monogamous in dwarven culture (whether that will change in the future I don't know, but I personally think it shouldn't, at least for dwarves). Perhaps the issues with dwarves never remarrying after their spouse dies should be changed (I assume it's a bug, but if it's intended that's fine too).

Also, what does "intellectually dishonest" mean? I'm lying to myself or trying to say things that I know aren't true? I've never heard the term before...
