DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Changing the title
« on: October 07, 2015, 01:14:46 am »
Dafuq:

Working hard for a title to only end up with this... I bet adventurer's female archer follower came up with this ridiculous title. After my initial rage, I've realized it is actually quite amusing. Getting killed by a man calling himself "Rosy-Dimple Balls" must be the most humiliating death ever. Though, some other ridiculous titles (e.g. "Emerald Mirrors of Cavorting") plague my games. I've got dfHack running, is there a command to wipe the title so a new one can be earned?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / .34 sieges
« on: July 09, 2015, 06:12:08 am »
Everybody who has tried .40 realized ,sooner or later, that goblin sieges are outright pathetic compared to .34. While it might appeal to some players, it isn't all that attractive to others (me included). There is simply no challenge in beating 10 poorly armed goblin recruits that show up, and moreover, there is even less epic battle stories/feats of dwarven courage to be had.

Hence, is there a mod, that SIMPLY restores goblin sieges to its former .34 glory? And by saying "simply" I mean it - no extra races, no orcs, no catmen civs, no gunpowder, no extra clutter, no beating around the bush. Just plain, ordinary, straight as straightforward, simple as C, goddamn siege mod!

Please tell me it does exist... Please...

DF Gameplay Questions / Retiring the fort - FB dilemma
« on: March 28, 2015, 07:01:22 pm »
I'm about to retire my current fort to visit it in adventure mode. However, there are a couple of captured FB's in the dungeon, caught in a door+bridges trap, NOT caged (technically, locked in a room). Since dwarves tend to scatter when unretiring the fort, will FB's get random position too (and be magically released)?

Also, will fresh FB corpse stay fresh when retiring and subsequently visiting it with adventurer? I want some FB steak.

DF Gameplay Questions / Adamantine masterwork
« on: March 28, 2015, 01:02:53 am »
My fort has a +5  legendary weaponsmith, ho has absolutely NO trouble churning out masterwork steel disc. However, when tasked with producing adamantine weapons he simply cannot make any more masterpieces. He forged masterwork admnt spear at first attempt, but when it comes to swords or axes Exceptional is the highest he can do.

I've spent about one hundred wafers so far, and not a single masterwork (excluding the spear). Can MW axes and swords be produced at all? Are they simply impossible to make?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Floor hatches of death
« on: March 24, 2015, 11:27:35 pm »
Is there any way to open those DAMN floor hatches on top of goblin towers? Goblins open it, companions have no trouble doing the same, but player character has to jump off the building to leave it.

I tried everything - adv. interaction, interact with furniture, Shift+<, nothing works. The only way to get it open is to wait on top of the hatch until someone else opens it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Children's inventory
« on: March 18, 2015, 06:46:01 am »
I've recently ran a fort with 200 population, 87 of which were children. One moment in time I went to check dwarven inventories and noticed for the FIRST time, that nearly all children (not babies) have full set of clothing.

Now, the fort in question didn't have ANY fabric or cloth industry. All civilians wore leather armor sets. Where the heck did children get those xPig Tail Fiberx socks from, when all leftover clothes were dumped? Do they spawn their attire?

If yes, can we make children into farmable cloth supply?
Nevermind.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Bogeymen - wtf
« on: March 17, 2015, 12:23:55 pm »
This time I used Artmoney to give adventurer infinite points to spend at the start screen, and made him all-legendary in skills and all-Superior in stats.

Went to hunt demons,  died to a single bogeyman.

I have created a couple of such adventurers, and none of them could deal with bodeys. It's all the same every time. Gut punch, nauseous, death. Foot kick, on the ground, death. Head kick, stunned, death. Armor or not. We are talking ALL legendary 5000 adventurer here.

And don't get me wrong, I tried all the strategies, luring one by one, targeting limbs, charging. It was all dodged. I think only two of the bogeys ever got killed. I know, adv. mode is notorious for its oh so common "bad luck", but it seems that it is simply hardcoded. Do bogeymen get buffed according to adventurer's stats? Or are they just plain broken? Any way to deal with them besides not sleeping out?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / A fitting punishment
« on: March 15, 2015, 11:17:39 am »
One of the haulers in my fort decided to throw a tantrum (despite having felt only PLEASURE in the last season), and deconstructed the only bridge over a magma pit... in the moment there were 10 USEFUL dwarves on it.

An explosion of housand suns wouldn't display even a googlenumber fraction of my rage fun. Just to add insult to an injury, she went to attend a party straight after that.

At first, i wanted to throw her to the cyclops pit. On the second thought, it would end very quickly and mercifully for the sucker.

Therefore, I'm in dire need fof your help, fellow overseers. Advice or share the slowest, most painful, utterly humiliating way to dispose of the aforementioned piece of meat without it losing consciousness and being unable to feel it. The fort has a fully equipped dungeon, monster arenas, danger rooms with magma, caged cyclops/undeads/necromancer and wild boars being available creatures. Adamantine can be made available fairly quick too.

Remember, it must not lose consciousness during the lengthy process.

Responces are much appreciated, as they relieve my bleeding heart. Thankyou.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Applepacked: the food
« on: March 10, 2015, 08:20:35 am »
I present to you what might be the fruitiest dwarven dish I've ever seen: Applepacked, the biting of peaches.

http://postimg.org/image/66tlbv8nl/

Ingredients include apples, peaches, pears, sand pears and strangely, spinach. Entire stack costs a whooping 22792 dwarfbucks given its mundane ingredients (like Apple products IRL):

How did the chef manage to squeeze so much into bisquits, a food item comprising of only 2 ingredients? is it a bug? If so, how to recreate it?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Dwaren eugenics
« on: March 10, 2015, 04:42:32 am »
Looking through dwarves' description during embark, I've noticed, that expedition leader (male) and the miner (female) have vastly superior stats, than all the rest combined. Particularly, expedition leader has "sharp intellect/very tough" and miner had "agile/quick to heal/sharp intellect". The remaining dwarves got all their stats in red (clumsy, succeptible to disease, weak etc).

In my experince smart dwarves are less prone to pull off feats of stupidity, so a decision was made to separate the aforementioned couple in a room (full of food and booze) to have their relationship formed. However, I'm unsure how dwarven genetics works in 40.24, an the following questions arise:

Do positive dwarven traits such as "sharp intelligence" or "incredible muscles" get inherited by a baby if one or both of his parents posess such qualities? As such, would  letting  only superdwarves have children result in better "quality" children?

P.S: Just noticed - those two are relatives. Would the plan to make them have children still work?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / The Watcher
« on: March 08, 2015, 08:01:06 am »
It was well after 11:00 pm - another adventurer game in another hastily generated world. However, this time I decided to play in a way every one of us has played at least once - depopulate the world, scoring as many kills as possible. And so Cusith Letogulgut "Boatmurdered" has come! A human adventurer  opposed to all life and bent on mayhem!

By the time he was well in 250+ notable kills, my adventurer stumbled across a pyramid in the midst of nowhere. Without any hesitation, I picked the lock, hoping for some masterwork loot.

I usually don't bother reading the slabs near the entrance (ones that contain lame warnings to wannabe tomb raiders), but this time I read it for some reason.
What surprised me was that the slab was written in first person, unlike the ususal "Human McDeadguy is watching still". Instead, the slab read "Woe to you, that disturbs my resting place.I am watching still". I didn't consider it much.

However, what happened after was kinda strange. In one of the rooms, a strange glitch appeared. I tried to save the screenshot, but it wouldnt come on the image, so I had to photograph the screen:

http://postimg.org/image/6nvucsogl/

It looked like an ASCII dwarf face, similar to the dwarf that you see getting killed in the intro movie. Curious, I went in the room with the "face" only to find it empty. It was stuffed with generous ammount of traps though.

http://postimg.org/image/uhp9bbxs7/

When I went back to see the face again, it was no longer there. I searched the piramid, but all the rooms were empty.

Afterwards, the face appeared multiple times in human fortresses, towers, e.t.c. when using "L" look command and looking up. It wouldn't appear on screens however, so that photo is the only way to show it.

Did anyone else have this strange glitch?

DF Gameplay Questions / The new stress system
« on: February 26, 2015, 11:06:06 pm »

Could somebody clarify, why is this broker stressed out, even though for the last season all she has been feeling was nothing but dwarfgasm?

Also, is there ANY way to store dead goblins and their parts without haulers being horrified all over the place? When ordered to haul corpses to atom smasher, they repeatedly freeze in fear and get a negative thought stack.

P.S: The new stress system makes me throw tatnrums.

DF Gameplay Questions / The Elfdritch horror of Treesplosion
« on: February 26, 2015, 04:16:11 am »
The new multi-tile trees make my gaming machine weep!

I chose to embark in a desert. Thes site looked like a complete wasteland - there were 2 trees on the map, these were immideately cut down for timber.

2 years have since passed. On spring the 1st Granite 252 there was a signiicant slowdown. Looking at a map again:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The entire desert has turned into a Saguaro jungle overnight. Image above is but a portion of the map - there are countless trees on the other side as well. Naturally, framerate went down.

Now the harsh barren wasteland to be conquered has turned into sluggish elven retreat. I've tried cutting some trees down, though, with 30 FPS and 100 dwarves it is going to take forever.  Can DFhack help?

DF Gameplay Questions / Stacking vengeful thoughts
« on: February 25, 2015, 10:08:07 am »

This is quite a scary negative stack. The entire squad got these, and I'm genuinely surprised there were no insta-tantrums.

All these thoughts came from human caravan guards firing at some vultures. The militia dwarfes weren't fighting themselves , they were standing behind walls , shouting war cries into the thin air and getting all stressed for nothing.

Is there any way to prevent this? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thankyou.

P.S: And DONT tell me I have to dump the entire caravan into magma.
