((What about my action?))
Oh yes, uh...

You enter the castle and take a right. You come upon a large stone church.

I'm not actually certain where he went... I assumed he had followed me, but apparently not. I'm certain he'll be along any moment now, though. There were also several others who, while they didn't actually help me get the jewels, helped me to escape the thieves lair with them when a mysterious entity summoned a troll to stop us. I know not where they went, either.

As you speak, three fellows approach you from behind...

Well, the company might be lacking and the decor even more so, but at least Keyleth was refreshed. She left the tavern and decided, on a whim, to try and find that castle mentioned in the note. Maybe she could see those crown jewels everyone kept talking about.

You find a dragonborn, Shardmind, and halfling all lined up at a gate in front of an eladrin as the goliath from earlier steps into the castle.

Satisfied that justice was served today, Grarahrn decided to find the nearest temple or shrine dedicated to Enkol.

You ask passerby what the nearest Shrine of Enkol is, and everyone in the streets tells you it is in the local church. You walk up to North Street, and are greeted by the sight of an elf, Rhogar, a shardmind, a halfling, and the goliath from earlier entering the temple.

Join up with the other gem bearers at the gate, and discuss what-all we actually managed to recover.

"Ah! I trust you are here about the troll?"

-futuresnip-

"Oh, I was wondering about that... well, I did apprehend some thieves earlier, with the assistance of a wonderful goliath- Oh, hello David. -and now have in my possession a smattering of jewelry formerly belonging to one Halflady Elyd."

You see a multitude of others at the gate; they are the fellows from earlier with the troll and bandits, minus the half-elf, all lined up in front of an eladrin.

The eladrin listens to you speaking, waits for you to finish, and speaks himself.

"Troll? What troll? And you have some of the Crown Jewels?"

Nodding in approval at the water, Keyleth takes a cup and heads for a nearby table. As she drinks, she observes the other people at the bar - sort of a hobby of hers.

Insight check!

You see nothing of note. This place is one of the most boring on Ekris.

((Oh, fine. No obscene volumes of knickknacks for me.))

Travel to the castle, noting any sinkholes I happen to pass.

You climb the ladder and walk up to the castle. You see the dragonborn from earlier talking with a Shardmind, and you also see... David! They are all lined up in front of an eladrin with blue eyes and robes.

There are also no sinkholes.

Well, thanks anyway. So, what are you doing here?

"I was hoping to inquiring about a flyer I saw in the market."

Jakme tells you, "Oh, the one about the jewels. Ahem. The Halflady Elys refuses to be seen except for one with the jewels."

-snip-
I'm not sure about the Shardmind, who I have never met before, but I'm here to return the Lady's jewels. I hunted the thieves to their lair, with the help of my travelling friend, whose whereabouts I'm unsure of at the moment, and I took both the stolen goods and a promise to never steal again from them.

Jakme's face brightens. "Ah! You found the gems! You say your travelling friend assisted you? Where is the fellow?"

17523
I'm following whatever leads I can find. Which aren't highly plentiful.

Also, thanks for the blue text bit.

Hm... good point on the WhitiusOpus thing. I'll look a few pages back and see to it.

17524
Keyleth (very cautiously) tests the water, checking for mold or other nasty things.

The water is clean and fresh. This place must have a spring right under it or something.

"I am here to speak to the [appropriate religious leader] about escorting any pilgrims to any holy sites they might wish to visit."

Jakme speaks. "Oh, OK then. Just head through these gates and follow the stone pathway to the east."

17525
"I will find some way to repay this kindness, but for now, farewell."

Do the obvious and loot all the things from the bandit dwelling. If there is furniture, also consider selling the base to a real-estate agent.

You attempt to dig to the bandits' room from through the rubble in the door, but are unable to reach the central dwelling. The hall is devoid of anything but bricks and dirt.

Out in the fresh air, Keyleth took a deep breath and smiled a little.

That was certainly interesting. Shame I never found out anything about those hat-jewels, but I'm sure one of the rest knows more about it than I do.

She watched one of the dragonborn from the fight march off boasting of his deeds, and shook her head ruefully at his attitude. She decided to find a nearby tavern and get some water after all the exercise she got.

Keyleth walks out of the alleyway. She takes an immediate step left and finds a bar with a sign proclaiming it as "The Wagon of Mighty Parties"; the sign has a picture of a canvas-topped wagon with several jolly fellows surrounding it. Keyleth steps inside, only to find a few bored-looking halflings at tables, a bartender whose looks tell that he doesn't want to be there, and a barrel with some stacked wooden cups next to the door with the message engraved into it "FREE WATER HELP YOURSELF".

When Rhogar reaches the gates of the castle, look confused about why there is a random BWAAing guard. Ask Vulpec what's going on.
Hello, Shardmind. Erm... What is that guy doing?

Hello, Shardmind. Erm... What is that guy doing?

Vulpec shrugs, and gesture that would be more reassuring if its entire shoulders did not rearrange themselves to do so. "I am not knowing."

Find a safe place to get down, and then continue to the castle gates by street.
When David approaches the castle gate, he approaches a guard. "I am here to speak to the [appropriate religious leader]."

As the dragonborn and shardmind speak, David hops down and comes across the guard, who is now nearly screaming, and the dragonborn and shardmind discussing what the guard may be up to. Suddenly, the doors burst open and nearly knock the guard on his face.

An eladrin emerges from the castle. He has long, dark brown hair, keeping it back from his face with a leather band. His eyes are pure orbs of a sort of mesmerizing blue. He wears simple robes of blue. Unusually for an eladrin, he has a small moustache. Hm. Anyway, the eladrin speaks:

"What is that infernal noi-- oh, it's you, Johnson." The eladrin looks at the three of you. "I am sorry. We installed this button--" the eladrin indicates a large, round stone button. "--which operates the alarm. Johnson never discovered it was there. Anyway, allow me to introduce myself. I am Jakme Fallensky, a wandering eladrin enchanter. I came here after discovering the halflings of Cri and their rich cultural history. The royalty here just love scholars and offered me lodging here. I have grown to be almost part of the family since coming here nearly a month ago. Anyway, I digress. Why are you here?"

17526
You know, your ganging up on Imperial Guardsman is a little suspicious too, mastahcheese.

You wouldn't happen to be a scummy traitor, trying to frame the Guardsman for your fiendish deeds, would you? I know of framing as a way for the Mafia to take out two townies in one day!

However, these are minor suspicions and my vote stays on DarkStar.

17527
With the troll defeated, Keyleth throws the hood back over her head and attempts to leave without attracting attention.
Stealth check!
Keyleth sneaks over to the ladder and exits to the alley, undetected.

Well done, company. If that's all the trolls that will randomly appear today, I guess our work here is done. I best go return the jewels to the Lady and collect my reward.
Stride purposefully towards the exit and continue on towards the castle.

Rhogar leaves the collapsed thief-tunnel and makes his way back to North Street, boasting of his accomplishments along the way. By the time you reach North Street, people are murmuring about the dragonborn who reclaimed the Royal Gems.

To Perrin: "Go collect the reward for yourself, Perrin. I have no need for the praise or wealth."

To the group: "It was nice to meet you all, however, I must be going."

With that, David scales the nearest wall, and searches for a major church.

You exit the tunnel and scale a house wall. You see the nearest "major church" is the official miniature cathedral behind the castle walls, and walk on rooftops on your way to the castle.

I guess that the best course of action would be to add the level 2 stuff to your charsheets once I have stated "THE QUEST IS OVER" in the IC thread in red 24 point font. For now it's RP'ing and storyline stuff.

Um, what?

I'll pretend that was a wish.

Granted. You get IN the evac shelter B4 the 5 "GUM" nukes drop.

I wish for my prior wish.

Alright, the quest is mostly over.

I really hope we get good pay. I'm eyeing the equipment section right now. We still have the question of how you'll modify treasure parcels for 9 characters, though.
On a side note, checking on the Monster Handbook, the only way for a troll to give us 100 xp each (which is what from the DM book what we should be getting) is for it to be something like level 13, and that's way out of our league. Maybe we'll get xp for the tiny questline?

I got time to think up on all of this because I got to DM a small, two-player game.

According to my Monster Manual, a level 14 war troll gives "adequate XP" for a party of eight. Either way, I plan for you to be level 2 for the next quest with the excuse that you get-- um, we'll get to that later.

Also, nine? USEC_OFFICER wasn't even there throughout most of the thing. He went up to north castle and stood there motionless for like eight minutes while a guard tried to sound an alarm.

I have some advice for you if you do not mind.
Instead of saying that we estimate how many hitpoints an enemy has, try to tell it as if you were writing an actual story.
Try to indicate how much damage it has taken by telling how injured it looks.
Is blood gushing out of it's wounds? Is it gasping for air? Or is it limping as it attempts to run? A little bit of detail can help a long way.

I know that; I accidentally started during the troll fight and tried to stay consistent. I'll do it better... next time.

Everything else aside, there's some story bits coming up, and then you'll get to Quest II. I'll change the thread title to match.

Tiny little quest summary for the interested:

17531
((Apologies for that, good halfling sire. I forgot to open your charsheet.))

Rhogar attacks!

The hit fails!

Cromwell attacks!

23 damage!

Ghararn attacks!

10 damage!

The troll is destroyed!

You guys win, yay. This annoying quest is pretty much over now.

Don't bother changing your XP totals, the ending of the quest involves official training to Level II.

Well, now I guess it's just a matter of taking the gems back to the Halflady Elys.

-1 to killing him. We just met him. :(

How dare you say that on the Slaves to Armok: God of Blood, Chapter II: Dwarf Fortress forums?!

Thank goodness Johto doesn't have any fossils in it. The day between Red's victory and AJ Downs' journey's start seems to have let some of the pseudo-religious turmoil die down a bit.

Plus it would interfere with my HeartGold search to free the Helix God from his eternal prison.

Are the various mutation serums working as intended? I've made and taken over 20 ursine ones, and despite 'yearning to be free' for quite a while, all that happens now is I cycle between gaining and losing the odd mutation. Last attempt, I lost hibernation, which definitely seems a step in the wrong direction.

The probabilities could do with being looked at; if it takes much more time, I'm liable to have 20 cooking skill, just from trying to cross the threshhold. I'm already nearly at 15.

EDIT: The last batch didn't even have any effect at all!

According to the wiki, you need to inject the mutagen to cross the threshold. Are you doing that? I don't quite know how mutagen serums are applied.

17535
Oh, uh, yeah.

Tomorrow, when I calculate the dice rolls and stuff, I'll copy the map, erase the little letters, and cut-paste the trollface into the correct positions. Not that it greatly matters, it's almost dead anyway. Wild swinging would almost do the trick, most likely.

Next time, when you're level 2, the "boss" will likely be a level 15-or-so monster paired with minions or a leader with a bunch of soldiers or the like, all in one big big big big room.
