Forum Games and Roleplaying / Rate the above username!
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:53:50 pm »
Heh, we've got songs, avatars, and loads of other rate-me threads, why not usernames?

Just give a short explanation about your username, why you chose it, what it means, etc. etc.

Well, there is actually a boss in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker called the Helmaroc King, it's basically a giant bird wearing a metal crown that protects it's vulnerable comb atop it's head. You must smash the crown as it attacks you to eventually kill it; you have to follow certain steps to defeat it just like every Zelda boss. Well, it was my favorite boss and it has a nice ring to it, so I use it for almost everything that requires a username. If my preferred name is taken, I apt for 'Kargaroc', a lesser enemy in Zelda games that resembles the Helmaroc King but is much easier to kill.

Other Games / Lugaru
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:09:33 pm »
http://www.wolfire.com/lugaru

Lugaru is a single player combat game. You play as a humanoid rabbit, Turner, and you follow the campaign as you attempt to find out more about the Raiders that have been attacking villages, and stop them. The storyline isn't it's strong point, however.

Lugaru is very combat oriented. You kill a number of enemies to advance to the next level, most of the time. Using the fairly easy controls you can reverse enemy attacks, roundhouse kick, stab/throw knives, and wield swords and staves. Ragdoll physics are also important in battles. It is fairly fluid and context sensitive, a nice little game. There is a free demo that features 5 campaign levels and 3 challenge levels, the game costs $19.95 and is available for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux platforms.

Just thought I'd post this here, it's pretty neat, I may end up buying it.

My adventurers are often met with packs of wolves or bears in the wilderness. Which is normal, but the enemies are always surrounding or next to the adventurer, within one or two squares. I don't remember this always being the case, usually they were a bit further off, sometimes even too far to be found. I'm sorry if this has already been reported. The world is new and was made in this version. I have not edited any raws.

General Discussion / MUD Discussion
« on: August 02, 2008, 10:05:31 pm »
I think there should be a topic on MUDs, because many DF players have the imagination and creativity required to play them, and I know many DFers do play MUDs anyway. I've played quite a few, and gotten hooked for a few weeks, but I just completely lose interest after a while, most of the time. If any of you have dug up one that you really enjoy, or one that you think sucks beyond belief, tell us.

In my opinion, a good MUD requires solid roleplay. Not by all means advanced or complex, but solid and thorough. I like MUDs with strict IC/OOC rules, i.e. no ooc chatting in-game, use chat channels for any questions, etc. (woah, I just used i.e., etc., and parenthesis in one sentence!) I know it's a little off topic, but I am hooked on Cantr II. Have been for months. And I don't see myself straying from it anytime soon. Magic systems are another important topic. They can be great and easy to use, or just complete loads of crap that are impossible to use and get you blown up half the time. So just go ahead and start posting! Thanks.

Life Advice / Need some help from a music expert...
« on: June 20, 2008, 10:55:04 am »
Well, I know many of us are confused by the many terms of metal and rock. So could someone define the following? I understand the basic terms, and can relate loosely, but what are the differences?

Metal
Rock n'/and Roll
Thrash (Metal)
Speed Metal (kind of obvious, I suppose)
Death Metal
Headbanger
Punk
Alt(ernative)Punk
Alt(ernative)Rock
Glam Rock
...oh, and what the hell is Easy Listening? Why does it exist, and who on earth dares listen to it?

DF Suggestions / Homepage 'stone' background?
« on: June 17, 2008, 05:28:01 pm »
Well, with the forum upgrade, I have been paying a bit more attention to the site in general. My internet service here (I'm on vacation) isn't too great and it took a while for the background to load. Anyway, while it was loading, the background was just black, and I was thinking, "Wow, it looks a lot better (and more professional, perhaps?) without that pattern!". Now, I'm not asking for it to be changed, but if everyone agreed, it was just a thought. I didn't make a poll because if Toady already likes it the way it is, there'd be no point.

DF Modding / Weapon questions
« on: January 27, 2008, 06:31:00 pm »
I'm experimenting with some custom weapons.
1. What does [TWO_HANDED:number] do? How high/low does it take to make it one-handed/two-handed?
2. What does [MINIMUM_SIZE:number] do?
3. How do I say what they are made of/how my dwarves (in fortress mode) make them and where?
4. If I just add them into the item_weapon file can my adventurers get them?

Thanks!

DF Modding / Yay for pocket worlds!
« on: February 24, 2008, 05:18:00 pm »
The pocket and smaller worlds are perfect for testing out mods, because (on my comp at least) they only take about 15 seconds to be created.

DF Modding / Monkeys running around suffocating
« on: February 21, 2008, 07:18:00 am »
I recently made a type of monkey, very similar to rehus macaque (spelling?) but you can bring them with you on the embark screen. Sadly, the little fellow ran around, falling over until he suffocated. He has 2LUNGS, NECK and THROAT. How do I fix it?

DF Modding / Creature modding token order
« on: January 30, 2008, 06:08:00 pm »
I know that you have to line it up with 'carriage returns' and all that, but does the order of the tokens matter?

DF Modding / Blind creatures?
« on: May 31, 2008, 06:05:00 pm »
If one wanted to make an eye-less creature, would they simply have to leave out the EYE tag in the [BODY: string?
