DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Noble Hatred

I always dread the nobles and their petty demands in Fortress Mode, and my Accomplished Wrestler in adventure mode saw a Guild Representative and I promptly strangled him to death. I also killed the drunk who tried to protect him. This is natural...right?!

I was in a town when a I saw messages of a warthog fighting a stingray. Then, a tigerfish went to help his buddy. It sounded odd, a hog fighting some fishies. I love DF.    :)

My elven spearman was attacked by a cougar. It bit his chest and pierced his heart.
Somehow, the skinny hippie stabbed the kitty in the chest, popping his lungs, ripping his lever and piercing his heart. AND the cougar died first. A tree hugging, beast loving elf?!?!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Lizard Issues

I was playing my adventurer and his friend Acath, a hammerman, and we were venturing to a cave. During our search for the hole, we overheard sounds of a great multi-race battle. Then, the three NAMED victors, who had killed at least 6 kobolds and an iron man, were charging us. To add to the challenge, they were GIANT  CAVE LIZARDS (from Teldin's Mod II) which are not as viscous as their spidery friends, but their bite is real strong and don't be surprised if one rips your guts out. Somehow, I killed all 3 without any help from my fleeing friend. I plan to kill him for cowardice.

I know this isn't a great feat but I'm not very good in the first place, so there!    :D

Edit: LOL I killed the coward in two shots. It's not cruel, It's honor!

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Close Call

Okay, so my competent archer was sniping some goblins, when a guard broke his leg. Luckily, the guard had sustained some injuries, he also had one broken leg. So, I crawled, with the guard behind me, up onto a cliff. There was a space that was square shaped, and was connected by one tile, the rest were 2 level drops. The guard cornered me, and I was certain to die, but I threw my bow at him, piercing a lung and his heart, and sending him flying off the cliff. Sadly, after a few more goblins entered the little arena, I was mortally wounded and fell off the side. But anyway, I just wanted to remind everyone that if they're stuck, they can always throw something.

When you meet a god in-game, is it in the form of it's favored creature? You know, in dwarf mode it says 'so and so the god of whatever often takes the form of a frogman' or something like that.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Furrowed?

I have a small fort (45 dwarves) and for some reason, even though I have 150+ plump helm spawn,
the plump helmet spot is red...the soil is 'furrowed' silty clay loam. Do I have to make a new area somewhere else? Is my soil soiled    :p  (pun intended)?

btw there's no safe way to get water to plots from where they currently are.

I've got lots (TONS) of Native Platinum and Garnierite (Nickel).
I don't know what do do with it...

Also, I am using charcoal as my only fuel so unless I find coal I won't be able to make dozens of items fast.

Any ideas what to make?  :)

I have a single War Dog, and want him to stay alive. He got a red (left) lung injury, but is strolling about as if he were fine. Will his wound heal eventually?

Also, how do I un-assign animals (war dog) from a dwarf currently owning one?

1. One of my peasants died recently, (good riddance) and his body is in a coffin. Apparently, something is supposed to go into his tomb, and it isnt there. Then, every 2 seconds this comes up, "so and so cancels place item in tomb: Forbidden Area.
I don't compute.

2. A human caravan is here, and unpacking. Ive marked MANY items to be moved to the depot (status is PENDING in depot menu) but not ONE ITEM has been moved. Most (almost all) dwarves are doing NOTHING! Help!  :mad:

This message appeared, "Your ruler has arrived dressed as a peasant!"
And now, along with some immigrants is a purple dwarf icon labeled 'Queen'.
What the heck?!
What is she here for, and what should I do?

Also, shes demanding EXTREMELY good quarters, tombs..yadayada.
Hmm...I might be making some +dwarf bone crown+ soon...  ;)

I have a fort (still only 7 dwarves) and it's in the side of a hill (1 z level high cliff). And the only entrance is protected by a moat and bridges. What should I do? I can run it well until I get immigrants, then things start to fall apart. Are there any disadvantages to not accepting immigrants? If I change it in the init file do I have to make a new world/fort?


Also, I have an enclosed space outside for farming.

Carve a castle? For instance, you have a huge mountainside, and you are on top. You dig carefully around certain parts of it, and form a castle-like thing, without the painful building. Is it possible?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Failed Fortresses and Close Calls

I'm sure something like this has been posted before, but I can't find it in the recent posts, so I'm starting one.

Post your failed fort stories. Even if they're something stupid, it could be interesting. You can also put close calls, for instance you stopped a flood from killing/forcing out everything in your fortress, with just a few workers alive.

My worst and most anti-climatic fort failure was during the winter of my second year. I had no booze made, and no river/brook, so all my dwarves died of dehydration. With ice and snow everywhere.
