DF Suggestions / Creatures that are Caged can drown

I hate it that creatures that are caged, in 7/7 water do not drown. Cages have bars, and water can pass through. I do not know if chained creatures drown, but if they don't, they should.

DF Suggestions / Plaques/Signs

I want to be able to put little signs or plaques (wood and stone respectively) at the beginnings of hallways or outside rooms to signify what is inside them. For instance, in my current fort, one hall leads to the Animal Facilities and Kitchens (butcher, animal pit, kitchen, brewery) and I'd like to be able to mark that so we could look at the units list or something and see what hall/room the creature is in. To do this, we could designate things from the sign/plaque as long as that is what the sign is about.

I was thinking about how it looked a little odd that a creature icon (or anything for that matter) has black surrounding it, in it's tile. Could they be changed so that there is nothing around them and you can see what they're standing on?

For instance: The only food your dwarves EVER eat is plump helmets. They get used to it. After a year or so, they are offered some lungfish roast or something. They chuck it up. Sort of like them getting used to being underground, they could also become accustomed to certain foods.

Also, dwarves could have favorite foods in their profile. So and so likes to eat whatever. They could get a happy thought from eating it, and get sad thoughts from foods they don't like. If they really hate a certain thing they won't eat it or throw up open ingestion.

I know that some kind of doctors/sickness/hospital type of thing has been suggested for fort mode, but I have some ideas for adventure mode.
You (adventurer) could get a cold or pneumonia from being wet or in a cold/freezing area

You could get diseases from vermin, giant rats, ratmen, and that sort of thing

If you were bitten you could possibly get a disease or an infection

Permanent health issues could be added

Health issues could tax your speed and combat ability, and if you were highly contagious people could keep a distance from you

Towns could have medicine men/doctors/healers etc. to aid you and you could buy medicines or potions to cure sicknesses or prevent disease from cuts/bites. (Antivenom could be used)

Sorry if this has already been suggested, just some ideas.

I've heard you can code in weapons and things into LCS, but the DAT files show up as computer language in a txt version, and none of the other files seem to be moddable. Help?

I want to wish everyone here at the forum a happy new year, and an especially happy one to Toady!

     I have always been a gamer. I searched every day for something new, a new game to enjoy. I used to check jayisgames everyday for a new game, until once, in a Weekend Download (In which a staff member if jayisgames posts some games on the weekend that are available for download) a game called Dwarf Fortress was listed. I read the description, and downloaded it. I was hooked. Ever since that day, a few months ago, I have played almost everyday. I rarely return to any other website, all my online time is spent here or checking email. The rest of the time I play Dwarf Fortress. Thanks Toady, for the wonderful addiction, and thanks to all the veterans here for your helpful posts!

Is it possible to receive a higher rank than 'Bay Watcher' ?
I doubt it since everyone (even Toady I think) is at Bay Watcher unless very new. Hopefully new ranks will be added, but DF is the main priority of course.
