“Until they became conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.”

Photosynthetic energy is the basis of life on our own planet, with subsequent organisms progressively stealing energy from this source by increasingly wasteful means, but that's not to say there's no other forms of energy available. Geothermal energy is a good example, though I'm not aware of any specific biological organisms that utilise this source actively on earth. Extremophile micro-organisms exist around underwater geothermal vents but mostly survive from aqueous nutrients rather than geothermal energy directly. It's probably the easiest form of energy to imagine being converted into biomass however, with others such as kinetic energy or gravitational energy unable to provide a sustained source of power, and electrical energy being too esoteric to occur regularly in nature.

We'd. Definitely.

Currently one cask down, one to go before end of month. Wish me luck! I'm drunkenly shooting aliens in the head in XCOM in celebration of inebriation.

If companies have to pay more to their staff, the prices of stuff they sell goes up. If prices go up, stuff staff need to buy costs more than minimum wage can pay for. If minimum wage can't pay for stuff, minimum wage has to be increased. Rinse, repeat.

Yeah, I keep all my notes backed up online, since I often will get some prep work done during my breaks at work.

You're assuming Shadowrunners have a choice. You get a dragon telling you you're going to do a job or else, you damned well do the job and screw the consequences.

To play devil's advocate, first world societies have so many safety nets that it's virtually impossible for an adult to starve to death without serious effort. Whether it be through charities or government organisations, a person may find themselves without shelter or income, but rarely will there be a series of events that lead to starvation. If all else fails, dumpster diving is proven to be quite a lucrative and rewarding experience, and I have personal friends who do it as a hobby.

As an employer, I commonly pay minimum wage to my employees, and I consider it a good guide to estimating what a person entering a position can expect to receive. I also offer opportunities for employees to upskill their position and reward them with increases in wage to reflect their skills.

Frankly, if there was no minimum wage, I'd probably pay my employees less than I do now, and it's likely they'd take it too. Minimum wage offers a good benchmark for us small business employers to set the bar for entry level wages.

I've decided to finish off the month on goon casks of cheap wine! Nothing says sadness like wine in a bag!

Notes from my current Pathfinder game setting, 'Bretharis'

Five centuries ago, a band of adventurers united the land in defence of civilisation against the forces of evil and corruption.
Their human leader was hailed as high king and his lineage became the balancing force between each of the nations of the continent.
Three decades ago the final high king died without a clear heir, spawning a war between nations over who would ascend the throne.
From the ashes of war three powers emerged, one monarchy, one theocracy, and one arcane oligarchy, which consumed their rivals.
A fourth underground faction composed of common folk under the influence of a charismatic leader currently seeks to bring forth democracy instead.
Thirty years of warfare has seen civilisation crumble in many areas as the fields of fallen feed hordes of monsters.
Many of those who have lost their homes, families and entire way of life have become easy fodder for cults promising revenge on their oppressors.
Slavery is widespread and highly profitable within the theocracy, though slaves are offered release from servitude after five years if they convert.
Necromancy is common within the arcane oligarchy, with undead serving as endless power sources inside the gears of massive constructions.
Several rifts exist within the world to hellish planes, where bastions of the forces of good wage endless war to hold off the tide of evil.

More music for an hour or so while I drink wine and work on hobbies.

Just me and an empty room again, so probably another half hour of stuff before I hit the hay.

Session's over, and I severely underestimated my players.

They tried to stuff the head into an iron pot and sell it to the local witch.

Dear god I love them.

So here's my next idea for my campaign: Party's just about done cleaning up some void zombies and should finish off their creators soon too.

What next? Well, zombies gotta come from somewhere right? So they'll obviously find the camp where the ex-living were, y'know, living. Inside the camp, which I'm sure they'll thoroughly loot for anything that's not nailed down, they'll find a sack that moves slightly.

What's inside the sack? A severed head!

Severed head proceeds to beg party not to kill him, promises them big reward for helping him. Explains that he's a lich that was destroyed some time ago, but regrowing his body didn't all go quite according to plan. His various body parts seem to have all spawned in separate locations, and he needs help putting himself back together.

Party can either kill him outright, which I've got a nice CR 3 monster skulleton stat block lined up for, or help him. Should they look about ready to destroy him, he'll bring to their attention that he'll only respawn in a few days, and sooner or later he'll be sure to pay them back for their betrayal. Should they help him, I've got stats for two crawling hands, a skinwraith, a meat puppet and a skeleton, along with a humanoid ectoplasm to glue it all together.

Of course, once they've defeated the separate parts he'll reveal he needs to finish the process with a sacrifice, namely either a virgin's blood, the soul of a good aligned cleric or the horn of a unicorn.

I figure they'll probably just kill the lich while he's a head, but it'll be a great intro for a recurring villain and also an awesome opportunity to spawn some truly awful puns.

"The bandits kept me around for entertainment! We'd play games together, like tether-ball or bowling. I was really good at the first one!"
