You wouldn't happen to be a medieval re-enactor would you Arrkhal? Most of the guys I've spoken to at medieval festivals speak about history with a similar take as yours.

As for the mod, I fully endorse this. Did you by chance include mods to address food management, or is this outside the focus of this mod?

I'll admit to being a perfectionist when it comes to fort building. Frankly I'd say I'm one of the camp Toady mentions that just wants to dig in the dirt. That said,  I still intend to give this challenge a good try. If there's a fix for the bugs we're dealing with it'll make it easier, but if that doesn't happen in the timeframe given I still intend to submit my fort, even if it's not my best work.

It's these little things that make the game worthwhile to play. Sure there's pathfinding issues and military bugs, but when an alpha game is capable of producing stories like this it makes it all worth it. Bravo to you for diving into the depths of the combat logs and piecing together this tale.

It would be nice if the newest thing Toady has done was as polished and bug free as the rest of the game. It's not though. People are complaining about the military screen as though it's been there for months and Toady has said "it's perfect." I get the military screen already. What's holding me up is the bugs.
Same. Screen took a few minutes to learn, didn't even use the wiki since the page wasn't created yet. Only trouble is that the military don't do what I want them to do after I've set them up (pick up the right equipment, train etc). Once they do this, I'll be happy as a baby in a beer barrel.

I'm hoping that a fix comes out for pathing issues and military before the deadline. Hard to create a megaproject when my dwarves take months to build a single wall. Hard to make a military when they won't train.

The name's a placeholder for the theoretical element based on the number of protons it would have in its nucleus. If you actually create it, you get to name it whatever the hell you want. Go make a supercollider and name it adamantium.

I can confirm that these here horses are pretty much unkillable. I released some HFS which decided to attack it, and four of them couldn't kill it.

My entire fortress is engaged in attacking this horse. In fact, they've been hitting it for well over most of the season. Unfortunately it will not die, and my fortress will probably crumble as most of my units starve to death.

Has anyone developed a successful strategy to combat undead?

Known issue, already mentioned in the big bug thread. This can be fixed by editing your raws to include [EDIBLE_COOKED] tags for the appropriate items. Likely just missed when Toady wrote the raws.
