Like the small sign on the parking lot of a building here that is supposed to say: "Don''t speed, children in the way" but because lack of a coma it reads: "Don't race children in the way".. pftt with their puny legs you won't be going too long or fast anyway.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Street signs are very prone to misinterpretation.

"Children
Drive slowly" (adults full speed I assume)

On the back of a truck once, "this vehicle will only drive 100" (yikes).

And only tangentially related, a lawyer's office that always cracks me up because their sign advertises "debt collection and legal services", which makes me very inclined never to have them need to collect my debts.

Isn't that how it always is? Laws of nature only hold because people are too lazy to stop them.

Unless my understanding is fundamentally wrong somehow as long as the liquid's not so warm that it'll cook the starch it doesn't really matter (55-85 degrees, depending on the starch, Wikipedia tells me). Starch isn't actually soluble so the temperature of the water doesn't matter unless you're really worried about cooling down your sauce too much.

Yeah mine is sometimes a wok and sometimes just the broadest pot I own. Very practical tool.

It's not about being correct, it's about the fact that it'd have taken about the same amount of time to write a condensed version of your post as to write what he did write. He chose to randomly sling insults instead.

My impression of asian (vaguely defined) cuisine is that they were more about vegetables than the West in general.

Buddhist regions very much so. I don't remember if Japanese vegetarianism was Buddhist or something else, but that too. China is just a large place (my current favourite thing about Chinese dialects is that expecting Shenzhen dialect to sound like Beijing dialect is geographically similar to expecting Spanish to sound like Ukrainian, I think) that has many different takes on food.

Rather than eating plain rice and a single boiled leafy green (vegetarianism doesn't exist here) for lunch in the cafeteria at work, I got a hotplate and a single pot. Time to get creative.

I once ordered a vegetable stir fry from a local Chinese place, about as Chinese as they come outside of China because of the big diaspora here.

"Vegetable" was correct. I got some indistinct oily green leaves, either bok choi or spinach I think, and noodles. Never made that mistake again, haha.

Yeah I used overleaf for a few years, when it was still ShareLaTeX. Switched to TeXStudio eventually I think when I was writing my thesis with a million images and I couldn't compile it on their server.

Same. I think it's something to do with the way the air circulates that sets it off, I only really get it in the afternoons when it's warm and not so much with windows open rather than the fans.

How do you all imagine I sound like?

I don't subvocalise, so I don't associate any forumite with any voice. I recognise writing styles, though.

The creatures themselves don't scare me. What usually gets to me is the fact that I'm really not designed to defend myself from six planes of attack, or navigate six degrees of freedom, and there's no cover in the sea. You're terribly exposed and out of place if anything decides it doesn't like you.

I suppose you could co-opt the existing use of the term in vivo for that. It's not completely dissimilar.

I'm definitely somewhere on the spectrum (at least, that's what the professional tells me), but also very high functioning. I'm fine with not being "cured", I'm not struggling.

There's a kid in my sunday school class who's probably autistic, although I don't know exactly because I haven't asked his parents. There are times when he'll go off in a fit of rage for some reason and it takes me half an hour of working with him for him to be able to communicate the problem at all. It's really hard for me to say that it'd be a bad thing if there were some medication that helped him let me know when something's wrong.
